Today on our 2010 Honda Fit, were gonna install Hidden Hitch part number 60218.Here are a couple of measurements that will assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pinhole to the outermost part of the bumper is 3 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 8 inches. Now lets go ahead with the installation. Our first step is to remove the retainer holding the rear well tab to the bottom of the frame on the driver side. To remove the tab, get in and pull the center out because it is a pushpin tab that wedges into the frame. Now what were gonna do is take a rotary tool can cut out the end of the tab that sits flush to the frame.
This is gonna allow our hitch to sit flush in the frame for good metal to metal contact. Next were gonna need to do is cut a notch in the hole here in the frame. This is gonna be our access hole. Our notch need to be large enough to fit this one-inch up into the frame. To do this, what were gonna do is drill a hole next to the hole.
This will allow us to step up to a larger bit and create a keyhole to the larger hole of the frame. Now that we have the keyhole created on the driver side, were gonna repeat the same process in the passenger side. To make it easier to get to our access hole, Im gonna go ahead and lower the exhaust. To lower the exhaust, Im taking a spray lubricant and spray each one of the hangers here at the back of the muffler and we got one on the exhaust pipe just forward the rear axle. Now that weve created some room to work with our access hole, were gonna repeat the same process. Now were gonna take our pull wire thats supplied with our install kit, were gonna feed it through our forward attachment point to come out the rear attachment point and keyhole that we just made. With our pull wire in position were gonna install our block and half-inch carriage bolt into the frame.
First, well feed our block into the pull wire and then well thread on our carriage bolt. Ill go ahead and push my block up into position, and put my carriage bolt into the frame. With our install kit, we actually have a pole wire for each attachment point so Im gonna go ahead and leave it attached to the carriage bolt until we get our hitch in place. This will help ensure that we dont push our hardware back up into the frame. For our rear attachment points, were gonna take our pull wire, thread on our carriage bolt, Im gonna go to the other end and slide my block on. Now, for the rear attachment point, well feed our bolt into the frame first and then our block.
After our bolt are into the frame well pull it back out through the same hole we just went in. Now our rear attachment points are in place. With the driver side done, well repeat the same process in the passenger side. Now that weve got our fasteners into position, were ready to go and install our hitch. Its a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you move the hitch in place while you install your fasteners. Well be using the conical tooth washers with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch, and a half-inch nut. Well go ahead and feed the pull wires and then get our hitch up into position and remove the pole wire. On the passenger side, it may be necessary just to flex the heat shield out of the way until you get your hitch in place. Now that weve got our driver side fasteners installed, well run over the passenger side. When putting your hitch up, you gotta make sure you put your exhaust back up on top of the hitch. You dont have to reinstall it but you do have to make sure its on top of the hitch before you put the hitch in place. Another note over here on the passenger side, you need to make sure that the hitch is tight against the frame. If you need to, bend the heat shield down out of the way and then you push it back up against the hitch after you install it. Now lets go ahead and install our conical tooth washer and half-inch nut. With all our fasteners finger tight, well go ahead and run them down. Now that my fasteners tightened down, well go ahead and torque to specifications indicated in the instructions. With these two fasteners in the driver side, well repeat the same process with the two on the passenger side. With all my fasteners torqued to specifications, we will go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. That will complete the install of part number 60218.

A bit tough physically to install alone, would have helped to have an extra hand. Everything fit well, but did not like having to permanently alter the car by trimming the wheelwell liner or notching the frame. Have yet to test with a bike rack, but everything seems sound. 9192

I can't say enough about etrailer.com, their service, or the products. The hitch I bought fit the first time, without any extra work like enlarging the holes or whatever. I also bought the wiring kit for my car, and it was easy to install and worked correctly as well. I ordered late on a Sunday evening, and had the order in my hands (halfway across the country) that Friday afternoon with free shipping. I will definitely be a return customer, and recommend this company highly. And, for the record, I don't have any connection to etrailer (I'd actually never heard of them until I started looking for a hitch). John B.17451
