This significantly reduces the negative impact of vertical shock and longitudinal chucking. Forward and reverse jerking, called chucking, makes towing a fifth-wheel uncomfortable. As the truck hits a bump it slightly slows down, but the trailer doesn't slow down and causes the truck to jolt. Or the trailer hits a bump and jerks the truck forward and backwards.
