GearSpace 34 (34 cubic feet) is an ideal, all-in-one solution for storing and transporting all your gear- including large items like bicycles. Its aerodynamic, attractive, secure, and water-tight design provides more cargo capacity than any roof top or hitch based cargo carrier, and meets the real life capacity needs of today's travelers. In addition to these valuable features, the Twin Tube telescoping platform works with 2" x 2" trailer hitches and also provides an adjustable clearance up to 31" from the hitch pin hole attachment to the cargo box.

Today we are going to show you part number 59106. What we have is a Rola GearSpace 34 twin tube slide out enclosed cargo carrier for 2 inch receiver hitches. This cargo carrier is about the largest one out there. It contains 34 cubic feet of storage capacity. This is a great all in one solution for storing and transporting all your gear including large items like bicycles. It is aerodynamic, attractive, secure, and has a water tight design, which means more cargo capacity than any other hitch based cargo carrier. Also the twin tube telescoping platform works with any 2 by 2 inch trailer hitch receiver. Also provides an adjustable clearance up to 31 inches from the hitch pin hole to the cargo box itself.
Covering a few features of the cargo carrier is it actually slides out due to the twin tube telescoping design so you can get easy access to the back of your SUV. The gray case is designed with a clam shell opening lid. It includes the locks to secure gear inside the carrier. It also has a hard point channel cross bar to provide weight distribution and as well as adjustable attachment points for the cargo carrier itself. This carrier does include 2 rattle reducing silent hitch pins, one for the hitch itself and one for the telescoping part of the cargo carrier. This also comes with LED lighting system which includes 2 stop, turn, tail lights, and a license plate light and mounting bracket. This cargo carrier can transport up to 2 bikes upright with the lid closed using the optional bike mounting kit. This unit does come with a 5 year warranty.
We will go ahead and cover a few of the specs of this. The weight of the whole cargo carrier total is 120 pounds. The dimensions are as follows: the inside is 63 length and 28 inches wide and about 40 inches tall. Overall it is around 68 inches long, 33 inches wide, and about 40 inches tall. The install clearance measures 10 inches long to the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier. Then the adjustable slide out design can extend the carrier an extra 21 inches away from the vehicle itself.
We will go ahead and demonstrate some of the features of this cargo carrier. First off, and most obvious is the clam shell design, we will show you how it opens up. It has a nice secure strap system, there is one on each side. To open it up, just grab it by the handle and pull. As you can see this has a volumous capacity of 34 cubic feet. It also has a handy drain plug so that if you need to hose it out and let it drain out of the bottom. Since this cargo carrier is rather large, it will cover up the tail lights on most vehicles. That is why it comes with the tail lights already built into the back of it. Again, you have the running lights, your left and right turn signal, and brake, and a license plate bracket that is lighted. The wiring for the lights plugs into the vehicle via a four pole flat connector. We will go ahead and demonstrate the telescoping feature of this, it is pretty neat. You just pull this pin, undo the anti-rattle pin back here, and pull it out. There is a safety cable underneath to keep it from going too far back. With it being telescoped out you can then have easy access to the back of your SUV. Again, here is the safety cable that keeps it from coming all the way off. Also, the shank on this cargo carrier has 2 sets of holes for adustability, to meet the requirements of your bumper and tailgate combination. There you have it for part number 59106, the Rola GearSpace 34.

Fabulous product If you're considering this then you are probably looking for something that is less expensive and less of a hassle than pulling a trailer, yet large enough to to be useful on vacation. That's why we bought it, and we couldn't be happier. This cargo carrier is simply enormous, and we used it to make a 1600-mile round trip over the summer. It held our three weeks worth of luggage, which included two large and two small suitcases, food and supplies for the dogs (two Irish Wolfhounds, so this was a lot of stuff), with room to spare. It's mounted to a 2010 Toyota Sienna with the towing prep option, and it allowed to dogs to ride in comfort in back with us only carrying a minimal amount of items in the car (essentially those things you want in the car with you). What you should know: 1. You will need a class 3 trailer hitch. While you can mount it on a class 2 with an adapter, your maximum tongue weight will severely limit its usefulness. The total weight of the unit (the cargo pod and the mounting bars) weighs 120 lbs. Add the landing gear, and you add another 20 lbs. This leaves very little capacity for cargo. 2. Buy the landing gear. Yes, they're about $250 and add weight to your carrier, but they are invaluable. Without the gear, mounting and unmounting the GearSpace 34 is a three person job: two to hold it up, and one to guide it onto the mounting arms. Two people /can/ do it, but it's a frustrating and potentially dangerous procedure and you'll have to rig up something to hold the cargo pod at the right height while you slide it slowly into place. With the landing gear it becomes a two person job that one person /can/ do in a pinch if needed. 3. While the product does telescope out to allow you to open a rear hatch/door, in reality this is not practical. Unless the unit is completely empty, the added torque will drive up your effective tongue weight, possibly past the limit of your hitch. Plus, even if you do open the door, you have this huge mount arm sticking out underneath you as you exit the back, which just plain isn't safe. Just plan on not being able to use the back. If you have, say, a van with sliding side doors, it's not really an issue. 4. The unit uses a 4-flat wire connector and provides brake lights, turn signals, tail lights, and a lighted license plate frame. 5. If you vehicle has a rear backup camera or rear sonar/park assist they will be blocked. You can buy and mount a wireless camera to solve the former, but the latter will of course be set off constantly. :) 6. You can buy a hitch pin lock if you want, but the odds of someone being able to steal this thing off the back of your vehicle are pretty slim because it's so darned big and heavy. :) But it will keep someone from stealing the pin that holds it in place and causing you grief. 7. You will be stopped constantly at rest stops, gas stations, and restaurants by other travelers who ask you about it. :) In short, it's a fabulous unit and we love it. We use it any time we take the dogs on a long trip where we need the interior space. It's more convenient than a roof box, can carry big and bulky items, and best of all it's not a trailer!3759
