Today we are going to show you part number 59100 from Rola. This is the Rola Platypus Expandable Rooftop Bag. I will cover a couple of features of this cargo bag, which is really nice. First off, it is expandable from 10 cubic feet to 15 cubic feet by simply unzipping the zipper on the very bottom of the bag. The construction of this bag is heavy-duty, premium-quality, weatherproof construction, and it comes built in with eight tie-down straps. So you have got four straps on each side, basically two in the front, two in the rear, and two on each side. It also has a built-in aerodynamic shape, as you can see here. It actually matches the roofline of this vehicle quite nicely. Let us go ahead and show you how it gets attached to the roof rack and a few of the features of it.
As you can see here, we have the two tie-down straps on the side, with nice, thick, heavy-duty construction. It has an easy-to-use clip here, so basically you can just wrap it around your cargo bar, clip it back into place, and then just pull up your excess to tighten it down. And it comes with this nice little strap to keep up the excess out of the way. And there are two on each side, two in the front, and two in the rear that work identical to that. And also this bag is expandable, too, as we said before. It starts off as shown here at 10 cubic feet and then when we undo the zipper on the very bottom here, underneath this flap, you will get up to five more cubic feet.
And this lower zipper right here is the expansion part. You can just undo it and you have that much expansion already. And it is all covered by this heavy-duty flap two layers, actually: one on the top and one on the inside and it has these Velcro seals here to keep out the dirt and wind and water. What is really nice about this cargo bag is, if you have some stuff that can sit outside in the weather, you have these tie-down straps right here to store it on top. Plus you have got a couple of little pockets here, too, if you have something that you can leave out in the elements, too. Should be waterproof for price The bag is easy to attach and load. I think for the price waterproof instead of weatherproof would be approiate. The bag also has a nice appearance and would complement any vehicle 990

Based on other reviews I had great expectations for this bag, but when I arrived at my daughter's college and unloaded there was a pool of water inside. We drove through about an hour of heavy rain - far less than the storms I have driven through driving from NY to SC every year, and this bag fared far worse than the cheaper bag it replaced. It is listed as weather proof, both here and on Rola's site, but the instructions for the bag indicate it is only weather resistant - which is not the same. Luckily my things inside were in waterproof bags, but what seemed a well made bag, which was easy to secure to my roof rack, was a big disappointment.23422

This is an excellent car topper; well worth the money. We used it on a 200-mile trip with absolutely no problems at all, and had lots of stuff in it, all securely held. In fact, we came home with more than we left with, but that wasn't a problem either due to the expanding feature of this cargo bag. One of my favorite features is the draw-string that helps to pull the sides and top down snug to the contents of the bag. Highly recommended if you need extra space inside your vehicle.12532

This bag was perfect for our road trip from Florida to West Virginia. It held ski clothes for four adults and two children, boots, and a fair amount of additional clothing, luggage etc. It really freed up a lot of interior space in the car.12063

The bag was very easy to install and held 3 small suitcases, 2 duffel bags and 3 boogie boards! We drove through 7 hours of heavy, heavy rain and some of the clothes were wet (close to the bottom of the suitcases) but overall, we were satisfied with the bag.19609

It it so user friendly, easy to load full of baggage and easy to strap To the rola cargo basket. Staps are part of the bag itself and are plenty to keep bag strapped in place. Love my new bag!!!!19145
