Today on our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, well be installing the Curt TriFlex Brake Controller and the Universal Quick Plug Brake Harness, part numbers C51140 and C51516. Well also be using a wiring kit, part number 5505. Now, our Jeep Grand Cherokee is equipped with a factory 7-pole. Youll find a blue wire in the driver side kick panel labeled electric brake. This wire runs two of the factory 7-pole and it will be the wire that we'll use for the brake controller to run our brake feed. After locating that wire, well now need to run our battery positive and ground.
Well do this using with the wiring kit. Supplied with the wiring kit is a two-wire duplex wire. Well run this from the battery through the firewall and to the driver's side where well mount our brake controller. Now for demonstration purposes, we removed the charcoal canister, mounting brackets and set the charcoal canister out of the way. Youll now see the grommet where the factory wiring runs through the firewall.
After cutting the hole in the grommet, we can pass the wire through and into our passenger compartment. And after reinstalling the charcoal canister, well route our wire through the engine compartment and over to the battery. Once weve brought the wire to the battery in the engine compartment, well move back to the driver's side passenger compartment and begin to make our connections. Were now back underneath the dash of the vehicle here on the driver side and we need to locate our brake signal. So well find our brake light switch here and we can remove it by giving it a simple twist and pull it out.
You'll then see we have access to our connector and after determining, we're using a vehicle wiring schematic that we need to use the white wire with inaudible 0:01:57.5 tracer here at the connector. We can go ahead and use our test light to confirm this. Well, back from the connector here and pushing the brake light switch, mimicking the lever action of the brake pedal, you can see with the test light we have our 12-volt supply. Now that weve determined which wire were going to use for our brake signal, well take the red wire from our brake controller wiring harness and using a quick lock, part number 564, well make our connection to the brake lead here at the brake switch. Well feed the quick lock over the top of the factory wire.
We can then feed the red wire from our brake controller harness and clamp it down using a pair of pliers. We can then just close the plastic lead on the quick lock which will secure it to our factory wiring harness. And now we can move on to our power and ground as well as our brake feed to the 7-pole connector. To make those connections, well use the included butt connectors supplied with the brake controller wiring kit. The white wire from our brake control harness will connect to the white wire from our duplex and the black wire from the brake control harness will connect to the black wire from our duplex. The blue wire from our manufacturers harness will connect to the blue wire from the brake controller wiring kit. Now after making our connection here at the brake light switch, we can go ahead and reinstall it reversing the removal procedure, and now that all our connections are made well need to mount our brake controller. We will then connect our wiring. Now we're back underneath the hood of the vehicle, but we'll need to make our connection to the battery. Well peel the outer coating of the duplex wire exposing the two individual wires. Well next need to cut a 6-inch lead off our black wire. This will be where we'll install our circuit breaker. Once weve cut the 6 inches off, well strip the wire back and install our ring terminals. We'll install them both on the accessory side as well as the 6-inch lead that we have. We can then install our eyelet that will go to our battery on the other side of our 6-inch lead. Well now go ahead and put our ring terminal on our ground wire. Well now connect our circuit breaker with the silver side of our circuit breaker towards the accessory and the copper side of the circuit breaker towards the battery. With our circuit breaker tight, we can go ahead and tape it up to prevent it from touching anything and shorting out. And with that done, we can make our connection to the battery. We will connect our white wire to the ground side of the battery. We will repeat this process with the black wire to the positive side of the battery. Now that were connected to the battery, well show you how your brake controller works. When first setting up the brake controller, it's recommended by Curt that you set the sensitivity to L1. Youll use the knob on the side to make your adjustment. With your sensitivity set, were now ready to adjust our output. Well adjust it to 2.0 by turning the output control wheel as needed. Now, youll notice when your trailer is not connected that your brake controller will show one dot. This indicates that it is powered up and ready to be used but that the trailer is not connected. When we plug our trailer in, youll notice that the brake controller recognizes that the trailer has been connected then indicating by the two dots as seen in the display that it is ready to use with your trailer. And that will do it for the installation of the Curt TriFlex Brake Controller, part number C51140, the Curt Universal Quick Plug, part number C51516 and the Wiring Install Kit, part number 5505 of our 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited.

This was a bit expensive but I was the one who ordered it. I know copper wire is expensive, but this length of wire was over 2times what I needed. Maybe shorter and cheaper is better. A++++ on the product quality . I would definitely purchase from etrailer again 67694
