The drawbars, or front arms, on the EZ series base plate kit are supremely easy to mount and remove. Just insert them into the brackets and twist to lock them in place. On most automobiles, the brackets are mounted within the grille, where they remain not only unseen, but protected from scrapes and scuffs as well.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Base Plate Installation - 2006 Jeep Liberty

Today, on this 2006 Jeep Liberty, we are going to install part number 521423-1 from Roadmaster. What is going to happen is these base plates mount to the frame of the vehicle and allows the vehicle to be towed behind. The mounts will be approximately right in this area, right here. So to get started we are going to have to remove the bumper cover and the grille. We will go ahead and start off by taking the bolts off the lower part of the fascia here so we can get that loose. We have the bottom part of the fascia loose now. Now let us go to the top and start working on the grille and work our way down to take the fascia off. Alright, next we will go ahead and start taking off the grille. There is basically, on this model, there is a series of snaps that hold the grille in place. So we will undo these first. Next what we are going to do is continue with the bumper cover here and remove this bolt here and here. Next we will go ahead and remove the plastic rivets that go to the fender liner here, one here and one here. Repeat the same process back over on the passenger side. Alright, getting back underneath, there are two more plastic rivets that we need to take out here and here. With the fender wheel liner pulled back a little bit, and then push in. There is a little snap right here. And then pull down. 1:20

Get your fascia pulled down just a little bit and this is the connector we are going to remove, right here. That gets pushed that way. Go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side. And then go ahead and take the upper cover off. Next we are going to loosen our sway bar holder. We are going to back off these nuts here and give us more working room. Alright, take off the rubber bushing here. We will do it on both sides and we will take the bar and just pull it down over these bolts and just get it our of our way for more working room. These covers for the end of the frame, we will go ahead and take these off next. We are going to put this backing plate, that match up to the holes on the bottom of the frame here, we will actually put those on the inside. And line those up with the holes. When we have them set, we will just let them be for now. Next step, we will go ahead and enlarge these two holes in the frame here. This L-shaped bracket here, actually gets put inside the frame and this threaded part will end up over this hole here. And then this bolt will go through the holes in the back side of the of the bumper core. 2:51

It is going to be cramped quarters here. On that bolt that is going through the back side of the bumper, right here, we are going to install a flat washer and then a lock washer and then we will install our nut. Alright, when you put the washers behind the bumper core, make sure you use a thick plate washer back there. We will leave them loose for now. We just have them finger tight. Just make sure that the threaded part ends up matching this hole here. And just use on of the bolts just to help to line it up and make sure everything is in the right spot. Next we will go ahead and take apart this bolt here. And that is going to be one of the bolts that helps hold the base plates in place. So we will definitely be reusing this one. Next what we are going to do is start installing one off the base plates. And what we are going to do is apply some lock tight to the threads here. And we will reinstall the bolt through the bracket and back into its original spot. We will just snug it up for now. We are not going to tighten it, just snug it up. And now we have to install a plate and some bushings here and then the bolts. So what we are going to do is put our bushings in where the bolt holes are. Okay, just set them into place. And then we will go ahead and put our block on top, we will pull down on it. We are careful that we do not knock anything out. 4:13

We are going to start with our back bolt. This is going to go in just like it is, straight through. And we will put a lock nut on there. And the second one gets a lock washer on it. And we will put a lock nut on that one too. And now we will take our last remaining bolt and we will run it through the race that we put inside here and we will just screw it all together. When we tighten this down, it will take up the gap in between. we have all of our bolts in place. What we are going to do now is go ahead and tighten them all down by hand and then torque them down to specs. And then there is one more thing that we need to do. Is on this hole here, we need to drill it out and attach one more bolt. Alright, we will go ahead and do the same thing back over on the passenger side. To get our hardware in there, we are going to take off the horn here temporarily. And actually on the other side, the windshield washer fluid jug, we are going to take it off also. And then put everything back together when we are done. All we are going to do now is go ahead and install our bolt. And the other side is going to get a lock washer and nut. 5:40

Next we will go ahead and take down this reservoir for the washer fluid and then we can install our hardware too. With our base plates installed now, we can go ahead and go back to the sway bar we took apart earlier and put it back into place. Now we are looking at the inside of the bumper cover itself. Now since this vehicle did not come with tow hooks, there is like a cover where tow hooks would be. So what is going to happen is, this is in the way now because our base plate brackets are right there. So we are going to go ahead and make a simple line. We are going to cut all of the way across and just make a nice, even cut. We can go ahead and install the bumper back on. Let us go ahead and put the grille back on. And what we will do is just put it in there, push it up against the bumper. We will use a marker to kind of give us a good outline. And then we will go ahead and cut it out. Make it just big enough to work. Now that we have our cut-outs made in the bumper for our brackets, now the last detail is to go ahead and put on the safety chain cables. Take the d-ring that goes into place and just leave that there. We have one on each side. And with that, that finishes our install of part number RM521423-1 from Roadmaster.

  • Needed Equipment to Flat Tow 2005 Jeep Liberty Behind a Motor Home
  • To connect your Explorer Tow Bar to your 2005 Jeep Liberty, you would need the vehicle-specific base plate kit, part # 521423-1 and the Quick Disconnect, part # RM-201. You would also need to wire that Liberty for towing. If you were only planning on towing the Liberty occasionally, you might be best off with a magnetic towing light system, like part # C-ATL20A . The magnetic light system has the advantage of being completely independent of the towed vehicle wiring, and is easy to install an

  • What Fuse Do I Need to Pull to Flat Tow 2005 Jeep Liberty
  • The information that I currently have shows that you do not need to pull any fuses to pull your 2005 Jeep Liberty RW 6 Speed Manual. You will want to check with your Jeep dealership or your owners manual to make sure that you can flat tow your vehicle. Flat towing could damage the transfer case of the 4 wheel drive or the rear differential if not done properly.

  • Yes, there is an adapter for you Reese Tow Champ Tow Bar, part 74950. It is the Roadmaster Base Plate to Tow Ready Tow Bar Adapter, item # RM-025. This adapter will connect to your tow bar and allow you to connect to the Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit, item # 521423-1, that you are installing on your Liberty. Along with this adapter you will need the Roadmaster Tow Bar Quick Disconnect Kit, item # RM-201 to easily remove the adapter and tow bar from the towed vehicle. You will get the short

  • Base Plates, Wiring, Safety Cables, and a Braking System to Flat Tow a 2008 Chevy HHR
  • There are several base plates available for your 2008 Chevy HHR depending on the model. For any model except the SS, you can use Roadmaster XL Base Plates, # 3141-1. If you have an SS model, use # 523159-1. You will also need Roadmaster Base Plate to Tow Ready Tow Bar Adapter, # RM-025, to use the Reese Tow Bar and Quick Disconnect Kit # RM-201 to make the draw bar arms removable. Mos states now require a supplemental braking system when flat towing a vehicle. You would need to check with th

  • What Base Plates and Other Parts are Needed to Flat Tow a 2005 Jeep Liberty
  • The Roadmaster EZ style base plates, # 521423-1, are what I would use for your 2005 Jeep Liberty. The great thing about these base plates is that they do not need a pin and clip to hold the draw bar arms in and they are compatible with all Roadmaster tow bars. Since you already have a tow bar that you want to use, and we narrowed down the base plates, you will also need to use safety cables while flat towing the vehicle. I recommend cables, # RM-645. The 6,000 pound capacity will be more than

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2005 Dodge Caravan With a Reese Tow Champ 74950 Tow Bar
  • There are several components you will need to flat tow your 2005 Dodge Caravan. But before we get into that you should check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine if there are any restrictions on your vehicle being flat-towed. From my research the 2005 Dodge Caravan will need to have a lube pump installed to flat tow your vehicle. I do not sell any lube pumps. Now for the parts needed to flat tow your vehicle. You will need the Roadmaster XL Base Plate Kit, part # 275-1, for your 200

  • Will Roadmaster EZ Base Plate Kit # 521423-1 Fit on 2003 Liberty Limited 4x4
  • After speaking with my contact at Roadmaster, I was told that only the tow bar and the quick disconnect are a universal fit, meaning the tow bar mounting brackets and its parts are unique and vehicle specific. As such, there is no guarantee the parts will fit with another vehicle. I have attached a link to a video showing the installation of this product to a 2002 Jeep Liberty. While it's not the same model as your vehicle, the installation techniques are similar. Also, the plates you referen
