Draw-Tite Brake Controller - 5100

With the Act I, Draw-Tite offers you a bit more than the other controllers in its class because the sync switch, as well as the output control, have a wider range of adjustability. What this means for you is a greater comfort range when driving in various road or weather conditions. The Act I lets you fine tune both the speed and amount of power going to the brakes.

  • Designed For 2 and 4 Brake Trailers
  • 12,000 lbs. Capacity
  • Illuminated Output Indicator
  • Slide Adjustment Output Control
  • Three Year Limited Warranty
  • 100% Solid State
  • No Hydraulic Connections
  • No Moving Parts or Pendulums
  • Mounts Anywhere - No Leveling Required
  • Dimensions: 3" (W) x 5-3/8" (L) x 1" (H)
Draw-Tite's Activator electronic brake control for trailers with electric brakes apply the trailer's brakes electronically as soon as the brake pedal is engaged, unlike pendulum models which react to inertia created after the tow vehicle's brakes have already begun to stop. The amount of braking power (output) and rate of application (sync) are both adjustable for the individual driver's preference, road conditions, type of trailer and load. The driver can control the amount and rate of braking from soft to aggressive and the brakes can be manually applied.

Required
20 amp. Circuit Breaker (9506P)
Recommended
Pulse Preventer (5501)
Custom wiring harness or universal wiring harness (20127 or 7894)

Brake controller installation It took longer that it should have to connect the controller, but I was being very careful, I would check and then double check to make sure everything was alright. I wanted to do a nice clean job so I took my time. The hardest part was making sure I had the right wire connected for the brake signal to the controller, but even that was not difficult to do. I took some pictures of when I started a task and the end result. I will probably move the controller from the ash tray area at a later date, but for now it is fine where it's at since I don't smoke and I don't let anyone else smoke in my truck.4920

  • Brake Controller Installation on 1998 Chevy Suburban
  • GM did not start using the port under the dash until the 1999 model year. You will need to hardwire the controller into the existing vehicle wiring. Depending on what the tow package on your vehicle included, some of the wiring might be in place. Does the Suburban already have a trailer connector? If so, is it a 4-pole or a 7-Way? GM typically ran a blue and an orange wire from the rear of the vehicle up to the engine bay that terminates under the brake booster. In a 12 year old vehicle,

If you plan to tow a trailer with electric brakes, you would need to install the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118461 and the Brake Controller 7 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC7. For a brake controller, I would recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Brake Controller, part # 90885, as it is easy to setup and operate. The P2 is a proportional brake controller. You will want to check that the wiring is intact with no cuts, breaks, or nicks. Also make sure that the ground is attached to a clean and corrosion free bare metal surface. If the brake or wiring is not in working order, a new brake controller would not help. You would then connect the negative terminal to a clean metal surface on the trailer frame for a ground connection.
