Video Transcript for Hopkins 7 Pole to 4 Pole Flex-Coil Wire Adapter Review

Hey everybody, Ryan here at etrailer. Today we're gonna be checking out the Hopkins Nite-Glow trailer wiring adapter and this will allow you to go from a seven-way to a four-way flat type connector. What this is gonna do is really straightforward. You know, you'll plug this end to the seven-way on your vehicle and then be able to hook up your four-way flat type trailer connector. And it's gonna provide you with the basic functions. So you'll get your taillights, your turn signals as well as your brake lights.

When it comes to picking out a trailer wiring adapter you know there's a ton of them out there some are similar to this or you know there's some that don't give you any extra wiring. Some that are real short. I feel like this one will work for just about any situation but I feel like this would really be good for those of you that tow a lot of different types of trailers. You're not really sure what to expect or if maybe the wiring on your trailer is really short, you don't have a whole lot to work with and you'd rather not have to rewire this end or if the seven way on your vehicle is kind of in a funky location. So it seems like what's really popular are the forerunners here and there's seven way connector is all the way over here.

It's kind of buried towards the driver's side of our vehicle. And even on my trailer here the wiring on the trailer has some pretty good length but it's still not even close to being able to plug in. So by having your, you know, your adapter here you're gonna be able to plug that in give you that extra length. If you we're to stretch this out completely it'll be about three foot. So more than enough for just about any scenario.

And then you're gonna be able to easily plug in there and a lot of times it'll almost be too long in some instances. And if it is not a big deal we'll just kind of coil our trailer wiring up a little bit, get this plugged in. Being that this is coiled, it's gonna keep it up off the ground, but we make those turns, it'll stretch out and give you that length you need without coming disconnected. This connector does have what's called the Nite-Glow. So on each end, a little tricky to see on the underside just cause it's so buried underneath the vehicle.

But whenever you have your lights on you're gonna have a red light that illuminates and it works out all right for a diagnostic type tool. Let's say if your trailer lights are having some issues you know, you could at least eliminate the possibility of it being on the vehicle side. Potentially, you know, you got power to here, you know you can look from here back if that makes sense. And it's just a quick visual too, you know, you see it's not disconnected or anything like that. And it will make it a little bit easier to see at night, not have to think too much about it when you go to get it disconnected there. As far as the construction quality of these I'll be honest with you, I'm usually not super crazy about Hopkins wiring, but I've done several variations of this style of adaptor today that's made by Hopkins. And I'll tell you what, I'm actually pretty impressed. Everything feels well built. The yellow portion of the cable here has a good thick coating. You know, it's firm but it's still gonna be able to stretch out easily and easy to kind of, you know work it around and everything. I do like the connector ends. These aren't that like super cheap, brittle plastic. These are almost a hard rubber if that makes sense. So I don't see these cracking or getting brittle or anything like that over time and I particularly like how everything's sealed up in here. So the wire goes in, everything's sealed in that connector should really help with corrosion. I like how they extended this red portion out a little bit and help kind of support the wire connection inside there. A lot of times on other ones where this isn't present this wire ends up getting pulled around, moved back and forth just from putting miles on it and that usually causes an issue with connectivity and that holds true for both sides of it. Even the side where you go to plug into your four-way it's real, it's very thick, kind of has some texture there, easy to hold it in your hand and plug it in. So overall, as far as the construction quality goes you know, definitely no complaints on that end. So other than that, at the end of the day really not a whole lot to it. You know, it's a pretty simple part but can be a great solution for a lot of you out there that are looking to be able to hook their four-way trailer connector end up to their vehicle seven-way. And that'll finish up our look at of the Hopkins Nite-Glow trailer wiring adaptor.

Cathy T was a FANTASTIC help in finding the exact right product that we needed!!! It's sometimes difficult to understand what we need because what we may call an "extension cable," may actually be labeled as a "wiring adapter" or "trailer connector." She was very patient and thorough as she found us the precise product for us. She was also knowledgeable about Jayco trailers, knowing their uniqueness, which also helped her in finding us the right product. And this product is absolutely the exact item we needed!! We luv it cuz it's easily visible for us, as well as law enforcement on the road!! Thank you for your expertise and great selection which provided us with what we need!!

  • 7-Way to 4-Way Adapter Recommendation for Connecting from RV to Towed Vehicle
The Hopkins Nite-Glow 7-way to 4-way flat coiled adapter, part # 47015 will work with the 7-way on your RV and then would plug into the 4-way. It would plug right into the connector at the front of the towed vehicle.

  • What Applications is the Flex-Coil Adapter part # 47015 Designed for
The Flex-Coil Adapter part # 47015 that you referenced is designed to plug into a trailer 7-way and convert the trailer wiring signals to a 4-way flat connector. As long as your truck has a 7-way (it would look like part # 37185) and your trailer has a 4-way this adapter would work well.

  • How Does 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector Fit In Vehicle-End 5-Way Trailer Connector
I have attached photos of a 5-way vehicle end connector and a 4-way trailer connector you can check out. One photo shows them separated and the second photo shows what they would look like when attached. As you can see the 4-way will fit just fine in the 5-way flat connector. To keep moisture and dirt out of the 5th pin connector you could use electric tape to cover the opening or use a bit of dielectric grease like part # 11755 in the open pin. I recommend the 7-Way RV to 4-Way or 5-Way...

  • Availability of Flat Towing Umbilical Cable Longer Than 3 Feet in Length
We do offer some longer coiled cables that would work for you. Wesbar offers a 7-way to 5-pole coiled adapter, that will also work fine for a 4-pole. For a 3 foot length, use part # HM47025. For an 8 foot length, use part # 787196.

  • 4-Way to 7-Way Adapter Needed for 2018 Subaru Forester Towing Trailer with 7-Way
Glad to hear that you are happy with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C12100 and the T-One # 118467 for your 2018 Subaru Forester! In regards to the Hopkins Adapter # 47015 that you referenced, unfortunately you are correct that it cannot be used in reverse. You need a 7-Way receptacle which would need to be mounted on the Forester end of your towing setup. If you are concerned about having to drill into anything I have the perfect solution for you to avoid doing so. The best adapter...

  • Recommended Wiring Extension to Use With Curt Hitch Extension
I have several options for wiring to use with the Curt Hitch Extension # C45048 depending on what kind of connection you need. If you are looking for a 7-way extension then I recommend the TorkLift Wiring Harness Extension for 32" SuperTruss Hitch Extender - 7-Way RV # TLW6032. For a 4-way extension we have the Hopkins Endurance Easy-Pull 4-Flat Extension w/ 2 Grip Rings - Vehicle and Trailer Ends - 48" # HM47114. Finally if you're going from a 7-way to a 4-way I recommend the Adapter...

  • Where To Mount Breakaway Switch And Tow Bar Wiring Kits On A 2019 Dodge Ram Rebel
The brackets on your Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-522205-5 are for connecting safety cables in the event of a disconnect/breakaway so you won't want to use those spots for the wiring. The best place to mount your emergency disconnect and 4-pole connector is in the grille above the skid plate. You can run the cables through and zip-tie them in place onto the grille. For the 4-pole I recommend using the 4-Flat Mounting Bracket Item # 18144 then add a short bracket # 18140...

  • Recommended base Plates And Adapter For 2015 Ram 1500 To Work With Excali-Bar Tow Bar
If your Ram 1500 is a Sport or Express model, the base plates I recommend are part # RM-298-1. If your truck is not the Sport, Express, Laramie Limited, or Rebel, the base plates I recommend are part # RM-52289-4. You will then need the adapter # RM-032 that will let you use the base plates with your Excali-bar ll tow bar. The tow bar lighting kit I recommend is part # RM-154. This includes a 4-way connector to attach to your motorhome. The flex-Coil adapter I recommend to install between...

  • Recommended Hitch Cargo Carrier with Lights and Anti-Rattle Device for 2016 Chevrolet Suburban
To select the best option in a folding 2-inch hitch cargo carrier for use on your 2016 Suburban you will want to take note of one clearance dimension, the distance from the hitch pin hole to the rear-most part of the vehicle (probably the bumper cover). This dimension will allow you to choose a carrier that will still fit nicely when you have it folded up in the storage position. The linked article illustrates taking this simple measurement.
