Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Today on this 1995 Ford F-250, we are going to be installing the Reese titan hitch part number 45002. Before we get started with the hitch installation, we are going to go ahead and show you a couple of install dimensions. From the top of the receiver tub opening to the ground is going to measure 19-1/4 inches. And from the center of the pin hole to clear the rear edge of the bumper is going to approximately 4-1/2 inches. 0:21
OK, we are starting off underneath the vehicle. And the first thing we have done is to go ahead and lower the spare tire down to get it out of our way so we have some more working room. So the next thing we need to do is go ahead and take the hitch, clamp it up to the frame, and then we will start drilling our holes out. This hitch is extremely heavy, so I would recommend having a second and possibly third set of hands to help not only hold the hitch up in position but to clamp it into place as well. We want to do that on both the driver and passenger side of the vehicle. And you see again over here on the driver side of the vehicle with the hitch up and clamped in place, how that hole aligns right over that rivet. You also want to double check to make sure all of your holes are as centered on the frame as possible. There will be a little bit of side to side adjustment when you get the hitch up into place. 1:00
Once we have insured that the hitch is centered, we can go ahead and start drilling our holes. What I recommend, since this is a thick frame, is to go ahead and drill out a pilot hole first at each one of the locations. We will be enlarging these to 1/2 inch and there are eight total holes that we are going to be drilling four on the drivers and four on the passengers side. When drilling the holes, you can actually go ahead and drill one hole out fully, per side. This smaller washer with the overlapping cut in it is going to shim up the space for the overlapping pieces of metal here. We will next take this specialized block that has the square hole and the large round hole and slide that over the top. And then we will go ahead and take our 1/2 inch carriage bolt and slide it through the square hole in the block. We will be attaching that to the hitch using the conical tooth washer, lock washer and hex nut. I am going to go and hand tighten that up. And then with the two rear bolts in place, we can go ahead and take the clamp off and go ahead and continue drilling out the other holes. 2:14
OK, with all of the holes drilled out, we can go and put the hardware in the three forward mounting locations on each side. At these mounting locations we are going to be using the same carriage bolt as we did at the rearmost. But we will be using the larger block with the offset hole. You may have some interference with the flange of the gas tank, trying to get the hardware set inside the frame. And if that is the case, you may need to separate the two. Lay the block inside and then go ahead and put the carriage bolt up and in. And again, we will be attaching it with the conical tooth washer, lock washer and hex nut. Again we just want to repeat that for the remaining holes and then we will go ahead and go through and torque our bolts down. 3:09
We are ready now to torque the bolts down and we just want to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each of the bolts. And with all of the bolts torqued down, we just want to make sure we put our spare tire back up on its hanger and our installation will be complete. This will conclude the installation of titan hitch part number 45002 on a 1995 Ford F-250.
