Today on this old horse trailer we are going to replace the break a way switch. And we are going to be replacing with part number 420000 Tekonsha, the first thing we need to do is remove the old switch. Its rib bitted into place so the first thing we need to do is drill out the rib bits and remove it, and also disconnect the wiring. The wiring underneath is a junction point here, and also a junction point, and heres our second one in the harness, what we will do is go ahead and disconnect it right here and we will put in new connectors at these points. We will use our old switch as a pattern to drill out holes for our new switch. Now we will go ahead and drill out our pot holes for that.
We will go ahead and run our wires through our metal bracket, and then through the frame. We use two self tapping screws to attach it back to the frame, these are number 14 screws. Okay we will take these two wires, one wire will go to the splices that we had before, doesnt matter which one in this case. Lets go ahead and cut it to length, and we will use a butt connector as a junction for the three wires. Pair those two together, and put a butt connector in place.
We will go do the other wire and make our splice there. Okay connections are made, now lets go ahead and use some electrical tape to seal them up. Our cable comes with a cable looped in, a good idea to connect this to your vehicle, we got a quick link, we will be using a 3/8 one right here. It is over kill but we may need that to get over steel, and there are different style hitches with different style tow loops and thicknesses, so best to go large and work with that. Alright and there you have it for the replacement of our break a way switch on this old horse trailer..
