Today were looking at the Demco 10 inch marine brake assembly part number 40716. This assembly is setup for the left hand side and we can tell this by looking at the brake shoe assembly linings, the forward shoe is will be be smaller than the rear or primary shoe. This is a single servo setup which means it has one wheel cylinder with one wheel cylinder piston that will push out against the brake shoe creating a wedge braking effect inside the hub drum. This setup mounts on a 4 bolt flange with the holes pre drilled into the backing plate. To mount on your 4 bolt flange with studs. On your initial application, well use the star wheel adjuster to adjust the brake shoe linings out to the brake drum creating a light drag, then as the brake shoe linings wear, we can simply remove the grommet in the backing plate and adjust the star wheel out to create that nice even braking.

To measure our assembly, take our tape measure and go across the linings and you can see we have a 10 inch by 2 and inch, this assembly will fit a 10 by 2 and inch hub drum. When we couple this left side with the right side we can create up to 3500 pounds in braking capacity. With our setup on a galvanized backing plate, well have minimal corrosion making it good for marine applications. It also has a fall away brake system which means well have minimal drag when backing up making it good for trailers with braking couplers.
