Hopkins 4 Pole to 6 Pole and 4 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter Review

Video Transcript for Hopkins 4 Pole to 6 Pole and 4 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter Review

Today on this 2008 Chevrolet Express we are going to install part number 37175 from Hopkins. What this is is a 4-pole to 6-pole and 4-pole adapter. It will install on the existing 4-pole that is on the vehicle and convert it. The first thing we are going to do is tidy up the wires. We are just going to use some electric tape to secure everything together. While we are at it, we will go ahead and show you the functions of the wires. First off we will cover the function of the wires. This is the 4-pole itself and this will plug in to the 4-pole that is already existing on the vehicle. The white wire is the ground and that will get connected to the frame. And then we have the red and blue wires. Traditionally, blue is for brakes. However, on this particular 6-pole, the blue wire is ran to the center pin. So a lot of times the outside pin is going to be for brakes. It just depends on how your trailer is wired up. The red wire here is typically used for a hot lead. However, this is run to the outside pin. So you can actually use either one of these for the hot lead for 12 volts or brake lead, depending on how your trailer is wired up. On this install, we are actually not going to be using these. We are just going to use the 6-pole for lights only. 1:09

OK, here we are all finished. Let us go ahead and set this to the side and go ahead and install the bracket on to the bumper of the vehicle. We are going to take our bracket and install it right on the bottom edge of the bumper. We are going to use a set of vice grips to go ahead and just clamp it into place. Get it straight with the hitch. Alright, then we will go ahead and use some self-tapping screws to go ahead and attach it. Now we will go ahead and install our wire harness. Push it into place and then attach it with the existing hardware. Now we are going to take the 4-pole that is already installed on the vehicle and we will plug these two together. Now it is a good idea to use some dielectric grease to help protect the contacts. This will end up being a permanent connection when it is all done. And then we will thread a zip-tie around it. Now our two other ends that are not going to be used, we will just cover those with electric tape as well so they will be safe for future use. OK, now we will take our white wire. What I think we will do is just go ahead and push it inside of the frame. And then we will actually attach it to the bottom of the frame behind the hitch. We will go ahead and zip-tie our wires to take up the excess slack. There is a nice little hole in the frame here, so we will use that. Alright, with that that finishes our install. One other thing you might want to do is go ahead and test it with a light tester and make sure everything is functioning. And then try it on your trailer. And that will finish it for part number 37175 from Hopkins.

  • Wiring a Trailer with a 6-Pin Plug and Surge Brakes to a 2004 Dodge Ram with a 4-Way Connecter
  • Typically, a trailer with a 6-way plug has electric brakes, not surge. I would double check that you have surge brakes and that your plug is a 6-way. A 6-way plug is circular, has 5 pins on the outside and 1 pin in the middle. If you do have a 6-way with surge brakes, you will need the Adapter 4 Pole to 6 Pole, part # 37175. You will have 3 loose wires coming off of the adapter. You will ground the white, and then you will have to wire one of the two remaining wires into your reverse light. The

  • Wiring Adapter for Charging a Trailer Battery with a 2008 Subaru Outback
  • Using the existing 4-way connector to power your battery is not possible, as each circuit on that connector will already be used for the trailer wiring. Your trailer has what we refer to as a 7-way trailer connector (6 slots plus the center pin). We offer an adapter, part number 37185 that will convert your existing 4 pin connector to the 7-way. These connections are standard, but to power the trailer battery, you will need to run a wire from the black lead on the adapter to the vehicle's positi

  • How to Wire a 6-way Trailer End Electrical Connector on a 2007 Nissan Frontier Pickup
  • If your Nissan pickup has a factory tow package you can use the T-One vehicle specific wiring harness for the 4-flat connector, part number 118263, and then use a 6-pole adapter kit, part number ETBC6, to complete the wiring needed for the brakes and axillary power. You will need to locate the tow vehicle trailer harness connector. The gray 6-pin plug is located under the vehicle, behind the rear bumper on the driver’s side, along the frame rail. If you do not have the factory tow package th

  • Wiring Adapter for 4 Flat From an RV to 6 Pole Vehicle
  • The Adapter 4 Pole to 6 Pole and 4 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter, # 37175, is the correct adapter for this application. Basically, you plug your RV wiring into the 4 Flat side of the 6 Pole and wire the two extra circuits needed into the RV wiring. You will also need two extra wires, Jacketed 2 Wire, 10 Gauge, Brake Wire - per Foot, # 10-2-1, if your towed vehicle requires the extra circuits. The two extra circuits could be for any number of applications such as tow vehicle braking, 12-

  • Hopkins Wiring Harness # Recommendation for a 1994 Toyota Previa Van
  • Yes, you could plug the Adapter 4 Pole to 6 Pole and 4 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter, part # 37175, into the 4-way of the Tow Ready Wiring Harness, part # 119175. As long as you do not need any of the other functions that the 6-way has you would not need to wire up those wires to the # 37175. The 6-way would essentially be a 4-way, except it would be through a 6-way connector, and you could wire up the rest of the wires later if you changed your mind. I attached a video of a # 119175 being i

  • Installing Trailer Wiring and Adding a 6-Way Adapter to a 1989 Volvo 240 Series Wagon
  • You are correct. We do recommend the Upgraded Circuit Protected Taillight Converter Hardwire Kit, # 119175KIT, for your 1989 Volvo 240 Series Wagon. Vehicle specific installation instructions are not available due to the fact that this harness fits many vehicles. But there are general instructions which I will outline below. First, you will need access to the wiring behind each tail light. Starting on the left (driver) side, you will need to find a place to mount the converter box. Then, grou

  • Brake Controller 6 and 4 Way Installation Kit # ETBC7 for a 1993 Ford F250
  • Since you have a 4-way connector on your 1993 Ford F-250 and you need a 6-way round for the trailer I would recommend that you install a Brake Controller 6 and 4 Way Installation Kit, part # ETBC6, on your F-250. This will convert your 4-way to a 6-way and allow you to connect to the trailer you are purchasing and use a brake controller if you have one. If you need a brake controller I would recommend a Tekonsha Brake Controller, part # 90885. I attached installation instructions for you to c

  • Will Adapter # 37175 Fit a 2005 Honda Pilot and a Coleman Tent Trailer
  • Yes, the Adapter 4 Pole to 6 Pole, # 37175, is compatible with the 4-Way flat on your 2005 Honda Pilot and the 6-Pole on your camper. The adapter has 3 additional wires that will need to be attached on the vehicle side. Thewhite wire must be grounded to the vehicle frame. The remaining 2 wires are optional if needed. If not needed, they can be taped up and stowed out of the way. The blue wire is for electric brakes and would connect to a brake controller in the vehicle cab. The black wire is
