Today on our 2012 Chevy Equinox, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 36408. This is what our hitch will look like once it's installed. Next, we'll go ahead and give you a couple of measurements to assist you in selecting accessories for your new hitch. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the outermost edge of the bumper is 4-1/2 inches. From the top of the receiver tube to the ground is 14 inches. This will assist you in selecting accessories such as a drawbar, a bike rack, or a cargo carrier.
Now, let's go ahead with the installation. First, let's go ahead and point out the attachment points. Starting on the driver's side and the side of the frame, there are two weld nuts and one weld nut in the center of the bumper beam. This will be identical for the passenger's side also. Keep in mind.
Each process we do here on the driver's side will get repeated identically on the passenger's side. Let's go ahead and remove the rear fascia door. Using a pair of needle nose pliers, I can press the two tabs together and then pop the rear fascia door free. We'll go ahead and set that aside. With this application, we will not be able to reinstall it.
Next, we need to clean out the weld nuts. First, we'll spray them down with some spray lubricant. We'll use a 1/2-inch nylon tube brush, part number 814092. Thoroughly clean the weld nuts out and then I'll go ahead and take one of the new bolts and thread it into the weld nut to make sure they go nice and smoothly. Now, we're ready to go ahead and install the hitch.
It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands to help you hold the hitch while you install your fasteners. For our weld nuts, we'll be using the new 12-mm bolt and conical toothed washer with the teeth of the washer facing the hitch. Now with all our fasteners in place, we can go ahead and tighten them down. Next, we'll go ahead and torque to specification as indicated in the instructions. Now with all our hardware torqued to specifications, that will complete the install of our Draw-Tite Hitch, part number 36408 on our 2012 Chevy Equinox.

Extremely fast delivery and excellent communication from Etrailer folks. Directions need minor correction. We have a 2013 chevy equinox and we needed to use the pull wire tool to attach center bolts as the equinox bumper did not have threaded holes ,need to attach as if bumper was from a Saturn. Maybe when GM dumped the Saturn line, they are using some old bumpers on their Chevys and not telling anyone??? But other than that ( and threading the bolts through the bumper can be alittle tricky, i used thicker wire than provided and was alot easier to do), the hitch is farely easy to install and is quality . Like the hitch real well, only had one problem with installation, my 2012 Chevy Equinox does not come with welded in nuts for the bracket directly above the hitch, the mounting hardware comes with the bolts and washers for this and a wire to feed it down the tube to put it in place but the wire is not long enough so I had to add more wire to get it in place. 50583

Received hitch for 2012 Equanox in just a few days. I am 85 years old. I used 4 by4s to block hitch up until it was about in place.then used shims until outside holes lined up. I put 1 bolt on each side then put bolts in bumper,put in rest of bolts tightend them and had job done in about an hour. Good product.Good service30411

The hitch arrived on time. Instillation was a little more difficult than I expected. Probably because I was working on the ground and not from a lift and I'm old. It just took a little longer. Electrical connections required more body panel removal than I'm use to, but other than that all went well. It looks good on the car and my boat is very happy. I first ordered a drawtite trailer hitch for my 2004 Saturn Vue, so that I could install a hitch mounted bike carrier. I received the hitch the next day by UPS! It fits perfect using the existing holes in the vehicle frame. The only problem I encountered were the corroded threaded holes on my frame. I had to use a 12mm thread tap to clean out 7 years of rust. After that it bolted up perfectly!23031

Installed draw-tite 1 1/4# receiver on 2007 Saturn view. 1. the "piano wire gizmo" for threading bolts through bumber was cut way too short. It would not even fit from bolt hole to end of bumper. Should have been about 1 foot longer just to be workable. I extended with extra piano wire and everything pulled through fine. 2. Middle bolts were almost impossible without tiny hands. Luckily my wife is good at many things, and her smaller hands were able to fit in to attach nuts to bolts. Thought it might be easier if bolts were slightly longer (1/4 inch). Just a little too close fitting both washer and nut. 3. Youtube video is a must. Watched 2 of them for about 7 minutes total. Really did a good job letting you know what had to be done. 7 minutes saved a lot of time on the install. Overall: Very pleased with etrailer and hitch. A longer threading gizmo would have made for an excellent rating instead of a very good. I would definitely use them again and would recommend them to a friend.20501

installed this Hitch (#36408) on my 2011 GMC Terrain the next day (7/6/11) and all went very well except that I had to bend the passenger-side upright support about one inch outward, in order to fit in place and bolt in. The hitch may have been dropped on that side during shipping and was sticking out from the carton, but I was able to straighten it out to fit...all is perfect! 19410

Trailer hitch fit perfectly. Arrived promptly and in good condition. Bolts were wrong for my 05 Vue, though. Hitch came with 1/2" bolts, welded nuts on car were 7/16". Instruction illustrations were accurate, written directions could have pointed out a key step -- to make sure washer and carriage bolt were fished through the bumper separately -- the washer wouldn't go through if the bolt was already inside. Clearly shown in the pic, but not described in written directions. Otherwise, smooth sailing.18483

Talk about an easy install. Both the hitch and the wiring to about 20 minutes and most of that time was gathering up the few tools I needed. It was a 1 person job for sure and it couldn't be simpler. If you can't install one of these hitches and wiring, you probably shouldn't check your own tire pressure either.9563

Great Deal I ordered this receiver on the 9th and it was here on the 12th. Free shipping(and fast). Didn't get home from work until 8:30pm and had the hitch installed by 9:15. Looks great and of course a good name in hitches. Super easy to install by yourself. Came with the pin. Have yet to install the wiring harness, but I primarily purchased this for transporting bicycles and using other receiver type accessories. Having large metric tools will help with the install, but not absolutely necessary, a 3/4" socket with a 1/2" drive will work well. I only wish I had this option for my last car years ago.
