This part was alittle harder to install because my trailer tongue did not have existing holes for the mounting plate. The product was package well and shipped very fast, price was very hard to beat.20649

Expert Answers about Friction Sway Control - 3400 Do you have a question about this Weight Distribution?

  • Recommendation and Sizing for Friction Sway Control Units
  • Friction is not sized and comes in pretty much standard length. Mounting the units hook-up balls at 5-1/2 inches and 24 inches from the center of the hitch ball is the normal position for these sway controls (always use directions included with the product you purchase). The use of more than one friction sway control is not usually needed unless a very large trailer is being pulled and there is sway due to wind or passing vehicles. Proper trailer loading is your first line of defense against

  • What is the Difference Among the 3 Friction Sway Control Systems Part 3400, 83660, and 26660
  • Since these parts do not carry any weight, there is not a load rating available. There are so many factors that determine whether or not a part like this would be able to control sway. You could have a properly loaded 7,000 pound trailer and this part would do fine, or you could have an improperly loaded 3,500 pound trailer and this part may not work at all. Load balance, trailer length, road conditions, driving style and other factors all play a part in sway. Part # 3400 is made in the USA a

  • Weight Distribution with Sway Control for a Trailer with 800 Pounds of Tongue Weight
  • You will need to choose a weight distribution system based on the tongue weight and gross weight of the trailer you plan to tow. If your tongue weight is 800 pounds, you will want a system that has a tongue weight capacity that can handle at least 800 pounds. If you choose a system that is too heavy for your needs, at the worst you will experience a stiff ride while towing. A higher capacity system would work, just do not go to a system that is too low. I would look at systems that have a ca

  • Troubleshooting a Popping Friction Sway Control System when Towing a Camper Trailer
  • You can lubricate both balls with just a little bit of grease. You are correct about not greasing the slide bar. You can also try adjusting the tension for the best ride. If the tension is too high, it could cause the friction sway control to not move as well. Finally, after about the first 1,000 miles of towing, you should remove the slide bar from the sway control and clean all the friction surfaces with a wire brush. Repeat the cleaning process every 10,000 miles. I have included a link to

  • Can Friction Sway Control, # 3400 be Used on a Lifted Ford F-350 4x4 and Enclosed Race Trailer
  • You can use the Friction Sway Control, # 3400, on your Ford F-350 (installation details linked below). You will need to use the Sway Control Adapter Bracket, # RP26003, that fits on ball mounts compatible with 2 inch receivers. This plate is 3/8 on an inch thick so a ball with a long, 1 inch diameter shank might be needed to hold the bracket to the ball mount. Another possibility is to use a standard weight distribution and sway control system with a shank that has a deep drop like Weight Dis

  • How to Adjust Tension and Clean the Friction Surface on the Draw-Tite Friction Sway Control # 3400
  • On the Draw-Tite Friction Sway Control, part # 3400 the handle is an on and off device. The bolt that is located below the handle is for tension adjustment only. To adjust the tension on the sway control assembly, a series of road tests should be taken with the loaded trailer. Increase or decrease tension by turning the adjusting bolt in 1/4 turn increments in the direction shown on the label until the desired control is achieved. Now would be a good time to remove the slide bar from the

  • Friction Sway Control Ball Mounting Dimensions for Attaching to the Tongue of a 97 Dutchman Trailer
  • The overall dimensions of the trailer side sway control ball mounting plate are 3 inches wide by 6 inches long. This means that the plate would be too wide to mount to your trailer frame without modification. I added a photo with the dimensions of the plate for you to review. The only safe recommendation I can make for your application is to have a qualified welder attach the plate to the trailer frame in the proper location. I attached installation instructions for you to make sure you get t

  • Backing Up a Trailer when Adding a Bar Style Friction Sway Control
  • The product installation instructions for part number 3400 states that, on some installations, damage to the sway control may occur during extremely sharp turning maneuvers. This can be checked by slowly backing the vehicle into a jackknife position while someone is watching. You should not allow the slide bar to contact completely (bottom out) and the sway control should not contact the bumper. If it looks as though contact will be made or the sway control will bottom out, then the sway control

  • Friction Bar Sway Control Recommendation for a 1998 GMC Safari Towing a Tent Trailer
  • Your concerns about sway are valid. Towing should be an easy, enjoyable experience, but will not be if your trailer is not in your control. The Friction Sway control bar will give you the control you need. The installation is something the average person can do. It is mostly about drilling holes and inserting screws. We do not have a video of an installation with this product, but I have included a link below to the installation instructions. Sway control is not for trailers with surge brakes

  • What Is The Difference Between The Friction Sway Control and The Pro Series Friction Sway Control
  • The less expensive model Pro Series Friction Sway Control, model number 83660, is the same design as the more expensive model Friction Sway Control, part number 3400, but is imported and made with less expensive materials. The more expensive model is made in the USA and the materials used are of higher quality, hence the price difference.

  • Ways to Reduce Boat Trailer Sway at 50 MPH Towing 3500 LB 19 Foot Bayliner
  • The Friction Sway Control, part # 3400, is used to reduce trailer sway and improve handling in adverse conditions. If you were experiencing high winds or large trucks passing you and you were getting sway then the friction control will help control that and would be a good choice. This type of sway control does not stop sway that is caused by other conditions like a low tongue weight condition (too much weight to the rear of the trailer), improper loading or improper ride height.
