- In order to determine the official capacity of the bumper, you will need to consult your 2002 Chevy Suburban owners manual and/or a Chevy dealer. I can tell you that the standard towing capacity for a 1500 is 7,500 pounds. And for a 2500 model, 7,900 pounds. The towing capacity of the bumper will be lower as step bumpers can be used to tow lightweight trailers but should not be used for all applications.
