Today on this 2012 Nissan Altima were going to install part number 24796 from Draw Tite. This is what the hitch looks like when its installed on the vehicle. Next well give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories, such as a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground will be 10 inches, and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper will be five and three quarter inches. Now Ill go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed. The first thing we do is open up the trunk and get inside the vehicle.

Were going to remove the carpeting and the fiber board thats underneath. Next were going to go ahead and get underneath the vehicle. Some vehicles have a ground wire on the drivers side muffler. This one did not have, so we wont have to worry about disconnecting it for now. If it did, we would reconnect the wire when we were done with our install.

Now we need to disconnect the exhaust mufflers on each side. First off well spray down the clamp with some lubricant and then well loosen up the clamp. Then well go ahead and spray the exhaust away from the tailpipe. This will loosen up the muffler. Well spray down the hangers above the muffler to make it a little easier to slide apart.

Were done with this side, well go ahead and repeat the same process on the other side, since our vehicles dual exhaust. The next thing is to go ahead and look at the exhaust heat shields. We have to bend them away from the trunk pan so we have room to install our hitch. Just gently push them back toward the outside so we have some working room. Now well go ahead and lift the hitch up into position.

Well hold it up against the inside edge of the body work or the inside edge of the frame, and make sure you push it all the way toward the back. Now well go ahead and mark for our holes. What were going to do is use the hitch as a template. Were actually going to use some spray paint to mark our holes. Once our holes are marked well go ahead and lower the hitch out of the way. Well go ahead and locate the center of the marks, and then drill a pilot hole from the bottom up. Now well go to the inside of the vehicle and drill our holes out from the inside to the outside. Well drill out to the seven sixteenths hole. Now well go ahead and show you how the hardware will work with the hitch. On the inside there will be a stiffener plate added and two carriage bolts. Well go ahead and put the stiffener plate and the bolts together to show you how it goes on the inside. Before we permanently install them well take some sealant and apply that around the holes. Then well take our block and our blots and put them into place. Well also use something to put some weight on to hold the bolts down in place when we install our hitch. Now well go ahead and install the hitch. With an extra set of hands well push the hitch up and make sure we try not to push the bolts back in. Well install lock washers and nuts. Once everythings loosely installed well go ahead and tighten down the nuts and washers and then well torque the bolts down as specified in the instructions. Now well go ahead and take our heat shields, push the back up against the hitch, but far enough where they wont vibrate against it. Then we need to go ahead and reinstall our exhaust. We reverse the procedure. Well slide the exhaust back onto the hanger and then connect the two pipes, and then tighten down the clamp. Now well get back into the trunk and reinstall the interior panels. That will do it for our install of part number 4796 from Draw Tite on our 2012 Nissan Altima.
