Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.
Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.
In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.
At etrailer.com we're committed to the products we sell, and to our customers. Our experienced and knowledgeable staff are available via both phone and email to address your questions and concerns for the lifetime of your hitch. The technicians at etrailer perform hitch installations on a daily basis, making them a valuable resource for do-it-yourselfers. Today we are going to be installing Draw-Tite part number 24773 on a 2008 Mazda 5. OK, we are underneath the vehicle, and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting locations for the trailer hitch. You can see the tow hook here at the bottom of the spare tire well. That is going to provide one of the attaching points. And then here at the bottom side of the bumper there are two smaller-diameter holes that we actually are going to enlarge a half-inch. And we are going to feed carriage bolts and blocks from the ends of the frame down and through these holes that we have enlarged. When drilling through the bumpers on this particular vehicle and a lot of other Ford and Mazda products, the metal is very hard to drill through with a standard drill bit. It definitely helps to use a rotobroach-type of a bit to get through there. If you do not have a slower electrical drill, use a hand-held one and set it on low setting, because that slows it down. Because the problem is it heats up awfully fast and then it will actually want to burn through the metal as opposed to drilling it. So those two items will definitely make the drilling a lot easier.
With the holes drilled, we can go ahead and use our fish wire that is provided in the installation kit. We want to fish through the bottom, and we are going to fish that out to the end of the frame. We want to take our block with the square hole in it we are going to feed the fish wire through there. And then we are going to take our half-inch carriage bolt, and we are going to thread it directly onto the fish wire. And then we are just going to pull it back through the bumper and down into position. And you want to do the same thing on the other side, as well. OK, and with the carriage bolts pulled into position, we can go ahead and put the hitch up into place. We want to fasten the carriage bolts with the conical-tooth washer and nut assembly. OK, and then the last attaching point here will be the tow hook. We are going to use a 3/8 U-bolt that, again, is provided in the installation kit. We are going to fasten these with the lock washer and nut. We are just going to hand tighten that for the time being. We will start by torquing the U-bolt here first, because you want to make sure that you tighten it evenly on both sides of the U-bolt, so that the U-bolt is not shifting one way or the other. And, with all the bolts torqued down, our installation is complete. This will conclude the installation of hitch part number 24773 on a 2008 Mazda 5.

Super sturdy hitch, easy to install and the installation video was a great help! Had my local garage hoist the car and enlarge the 2 holes for $25 (about the price of buying a good drill bit). They wanted $97 to install the whole hitch assembly, but I told them to just drill the holes and I saved $$ by doing the installation myself. Easy to install. Did it without hoisting the car or using ramps (once the holes were drilled). Etrailer has great customer service⦠After I ordered a hitch and bike rack on-line, they were kind enough to call me within a few hours to inform me that they were not compatible. I was able to change my order before it shipped or got charged to my card, saving me a major headache. Thanks etrailer for catching my error!!22404

EZ Install I had no problems installing this. I used a grinder vs. a drill to enlarge the mounting holes. A drill bit can get stuck.2193

This has been the best purchasing experience I have had in a very long time! Within an hour I was notified the product was being prepped and that they had for free changed my shipping from 5-7 to 3-5 days. I got it 2 days later. Documentation/Video specific to my vehicle made it so easy. The hard part was drilling the holes and my procrastination. (Got in and 3 days waiting 2 weeks to install, dohh!) Also purchased swagman bike rack which is equally awesome! Thanks to all involved with my order.26075

I completed the installation of this trailer hitch on my Mazda 5, 2010. I cannot be more satisfied with the product and with the service received from etrailer. I placed my order on Friday and got by Tuesday. The installation is very easy. All you need is a 1/2'' unibite that you can get from your local home depot or lows store. You can install it in less than 30 minutes. 23934

Excellent customer service, keep me up to date throughout the whole order process. Installing took a bit longer than I expected since expanding the holes went a bit slower than I anticipated; otherwise, the rest of the process is easy. Have not yet used the hitch, but it is secure and heavy duty and should service the purpose.17127

This product is great and installation was a breeze. I would recommend making the hole slightly larger so that the fishing wire does not get stuck when pulling the bolt through. Great product highly recommend. 16584

Very easy to install. Took me awhile to figure it out, but when enlarging the existing holes, start off with a 3/8" drill bit first then onto the 1/2" drill bit. Believe me, it'll make the job a little easier. After all is said and done, the hitch looks great.9761

My local mechanics was ready to charge me close to $300 for a new hitch with installation. I did not want to spend so much money my 4- bike rack that I only fit only twice a month. So I decided to look around, and found that Etrailer.com offered the best deal. I chose the DrawTite because of the video explaining how to install it. This was extremely helpful. Shipping was faster than advertised and the hitch arrived in 5 days. It took about 1hour to fit it (one person). As mentioned in the video, it can't be difficult to drill through the metal, so I recommend you feel comfortable doing it yourself. Because I am not an handy person, it took a long time to drill 2 holes my Electric DeWalt 3/8 in. Besides this, the installation was easy. The only issue found with this model is the metal ring you see under the hitch.I think it's there to protect the rack's bolt. But on the other hand, it makes it difficult to tighten it without a ratchet. Otherwise, I've been using it for 1 month now and it holds perfectly.6374

Tow Hook Anchor Makes it GREAT Disagree with J Still - the primary anchor for this hitch is the tow hook, which is part of the frame of the vehicle. The bumper is "weak" but that is only a secondary mount vs. the tow hook. The hitch and hardware are very stout, easy to install. Very happy with my purchase.2865

Great fit This hitch is just as advertised. The only thing that caught me by suprise was the weak looking bumper on my 5. This hitch is diffently a class I. I recommend!!2146

The install was a breeze They went the extra length to provide you with a slick wire feed for getting the mounting bolts into place. My only addition would be to make the holes a hair bigger than they mention, and the wrench sizes mentioned aren't correct.1173

Great Hitch For Great Price! The hitch fits so perfectly that without the Drawbar on it it is hardly noticible, Very easy to install! Its a black hitch on a black car so that helps, It ends up being the perfect height with raised drawbar to tow a Jet-Ski, Great Product. Would Recommend.935
