Today on this 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS we are going to install part number 24756 from Draw-Tite. This will also apply to Hidden Hitch part number 60185. The first thing we need to do is lower our exhaust. There are three rubber hangers that we need to remove, two at the bumper and one going towards the front of the vehicle. We will spray them down with some lubricant, and then pull them off. Sometimes you can pry them off, or sometimes it is easier to do by hand. :35
We are done with the driver side, now lets go to the passenger side. Now we will show you the attaching points, we have this exiting oval in the frame, which will be one and will double as our access hole. And then, going towards the bumper there is an oval hole that is covered up, you can see where the bumper bracket wraps over the frame. We will go ahead and drill that out. We will start with a 1/4 inch bit and then work our way up to a 1/2 inch bit. You may want to go up to 9-/16ths to make it easier to pull the bolt through if you run into some problems. 1:12
Now we can install our hardware. We are going to use this bolt and block and install this into the frame. To do that we are going to use a bolt leader, or wire pull. First we will run the bolt leader through the hole we drilled and out the access hole. Then thread on the block and push it through the frame. Next, thread the bolt onto the wire pull and pull it all the way through, out the other side. Sometimes it helps to shake it around a little bit and then pull it through. We have our passenger side done, lets go to our drivers side and do that once more. Now we are going to deal with the hardware that goes into the access hole. We will do everything on the outside, like we did before, push everything into the frame and pull it back through. At this point we can go ahead and install the hitch. We can lay one half on the muffler and push the passenger side up onto the bolts. Make sure you do not push them back into the frame of course. Then attach them with a nut and a conical tooth washer. Passenger side is done, lets go do the driver side. 2:25
When you do the driver side of the hitch, make sure you when you put it up that you push it forward a little bit and back over the hanger right here. Before we tighten it down, you ca see the hitch has a little movement here. Go ahead and center it up, and then snug down the bolts. Then we will torque them down as specified in the instructions. Our hitch is torqued down, lets go ahead and reinstall the exhaust. Now that we have the vehicle off the lift, we can give you some measurements that will help you in ing some hitch accessories such as a ball mount, bike rack, or cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is 10-3/8ths inches. From the center of the hitch pin hole, out to the outside edge of the bumper is going to be 7 inches. There you have it for part number 24756 on this 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt SS.

This hitch seems well built and fit with no problems. Just needed to raise the drivers side of the HHR to get a good angle to slip the hitch in above the muffler (muffler supports removed as instructed). Note that I installed it with no help. A lift and a friend would have made the install a breeze.29039

Went on with out a lift using jack stands in about 45 minutes. Fairly easy install. Well constructed and should serve light trailer duties and bike rack usage very well. Note: If you are ordering this it comes with a 1/2" wire feeder so don't order one! etrailer, great job of communicating and very fast shipping!!! Thanks!17102

installed in less than an hour, half the price of any competitor in our area (wi). I did this alone no assistance from wife or kids. Only suggestion that is not listed in the instruction is to remove all the exhaust hangers not just the 3 and ream out both back holes, not just the one. GREAT PRODUCT!13039

This is a well constructed hitch. Because of the 40 plus lbs weight of the hitch it is best installed by two people. The installation couldn't be any easier. The only way is to have a hitch professionally installed at over twice the price. installation time was under a half hour. I couldn't be happier. 12174

As advertised. I just installed the Draw Tite hitch on my Chevy HHR by myself while it sat on the garage floor. Took two hours, and that includes gathering tools and trips to the basement to get stuff. Installation of the hitch and wire harness went, well, without a hitch. Easy to install but not hidden This product is easy to install and requires minimal time and tools. Did need to buy a 1/2 inch drill bit to finish drilling out holes but installation took less than 1 hour. Non factory threaded pin worked well with no noisy rattling and a snug fit. 1161
