Installation of Tow Ready Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the port that is built into the electric junction box beneath your vehicle's dash. The black box is located to the left of the steering column, just above the carpet. To plug in the adapter, first remove the cover on the box. The adapter plugs into the second slot from the left, on the top row.
To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the four wires - ground, power, brake switch and brake power - of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If you do not have a harness, or you need a new one, the Tow Ready wiring adapter will serve the same purpose.

- Brake Controller Wiring Adapter for Installing a Voyager Brake Controller on a 2003 Chevy Silverado
- What you are looking for is called a # 20264 Brake Controller Wiring Adapter. The brake control wiring adapter is used to simplify the electric brake controller installation.
The 4 wires on the adapter are butt-connected to the 4 wires coming out of the electric brake controller. The harness is then plugged in to a port under the dash see photo. - How Difficult is Installing a Brake Controller for a 2005 Chevy Suburban and What Parts are Needed
- Since you have the factory tow package, the installation will be simple. You will need a brake controller and a wiring adapter to plug the controller into the vehicle, provided that your factory tow package includes a 7-Way. I would suggest the Tekonsha Prodigy, part # 90185-3015P. This comes with the brake controller and the wiring harness to plug into the port.
We also have a how to page that I have linked below that describes the installation in detail. After reading the web page, you sh

- Brake controller wiring for 2005 Chevy Trailblazer
- The part you were looking at, # 20264, will not work with your 2005 Chevy Trailblazer EXT.
If you have the factory 7-way towing wiring, the wires will be taped up under the dash to some other wiring with either a piece of white or blue tape. There will not be a connector on these wires and they will need to be spliced to the brake controller wires. A circuit tester, part # 3808, will be needed to be sure the proper connections have been made and the vehicle wiring is functional.

- Amperage Capacity for Power Wire on a Factory 7 Way on a 2009 Chevy Suburban
- Typically, the power wire on a factory 7 way is on a 40amp circuit with a fuse or breaker somewhere near the fuse block. Sometimes it can be a 30amp circuit. If you are going to be running more than 30amps, I would call the service department at the dealer you got it from and find out for sure. You could also give the fuse block a quick check to see if it is clearly identified.

- Wiring a Brake Controller on a 2007 Chevy Silverado
- If you have a 2007 Silverado with the old body style, you would use part # 3015-P for a Tekonsha Prodigy P2 or P-3 brake controller or a Draw-Tite Activator III. We have a page on how to install a brake controller on the classic body style that I will link to below. There is a black junction box underneath the dash to the left of the brake pedal. You will remove the cover, and the brake controller port is the 2nd port on the top row. The install page shows a picture.

- Right Turn Signal on Trailer Towed by 2004 Chevy Trailblazer Not Functioning
- On a 6 year old vehicle, there might be a corrosion issue on the trailer connector. Can you see any green corrosion on any of the pins in the connector? If so, the corrosion might have spread to the interior of the connector preventing the signal from getting through to the pin. As a first step, use a circuit tester like part # 40376 and test the wire for the right directional circuit entering the 7-way connector at the rear (as the right turn indicator is activated). This will rule out the conn

- Brake Controller Adapter Incorrectly Pinned Out on 2003 Chevy Silverado
- It sounds as if the pin out on your adapter is incorrect. The red wire is the wire that was left loose. Remove the red wire from the pin location it is currently in, and then insert a circuit tester like part # 40376 into each empty pin location. Press the brake pedal while testing each location. You want to attach that red wire to the location that shows voltage only when the brake pedal is pressed. One of the pin locations goes hot only when the headlights are on, which is the one you have it

- Brake Controller Installation on 2007 Chevy Tahoe
- The tow package wiring is located under the dash above where your left knee would be as you were sitting at the wheel. Look for a wiring harness with a white tag on it.
The red tow package wire supplies 12-volt power, and connects to the black wire on your brake controller. The light blue tow package wire attaches to the red wire on the controller, the dark blue tow package wire connects to the blue controller wire, and the white tow package wire connects to the white controller wire.

- Does the GM Brake Controller Adapter # 20264 Fit on the 2005 GMC Safari Van
- The GMC Safari Van is not equipped with brake controller wiring connector under the dash, like the GM full size truck and SUV is.
Installing a brake controller on the Safari will require hard wiring a brake controller. We have a Brake Controller Installation Kit, item # ETBC7, that includes all of the wiring, circuit breakers and hardware needed to install a 7-Way trailer connector and a brake controller on your vehicle, as long as the factory 4-Way wiring is in place and working properly.

- The code AUX refers to auxiliary which is auxiliary power, which should be the Dark Blue wire on your 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer. This wire will connect to the Dark Blue wire on the brake controller and should be connected to the 7-way as the brake output wire.
The code CHMSL refers to Center High Mounted Stop Light, which is your third brake light circuit. This is the brake signal wire and will be connected to the red wire on the brake controller. This wire should only get signal when the br

- Trailer Brakes Lock Moving Forward But Release Going Backward on 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche
- This is a very strange problem. If your 2003 Chevy Avalanche has a 7-Way trailer connector, make sure that it is pinned out correctly like in the picture I have provided by checking the pins with a circuit tester, # 3808, if needed. Then make sure that the trailer is wired to match the Avalanche 7-Way. Anything that does not match up could be causing the problem.
If the trailer is using a 6-Way and you have an adpater that could be the problem. There are 2 ways to wire a 6-Way, the center pi
