Installation of Tow Ready Brake Controller Adapter

This adapter plugs into the 4-pin connector on your vehicle's built-in brake control wiring harness. The harness is located underneath the dash, to the left of the steering column, taped to another harness near the emergency brake pedal.

To install your electric brake controller you need to connect the four wires - ground, power, brake switch and brake power - of the controller to your vehicle. Certain manufacturers offer pre-wired options, typically known as tow packages, wherein these wires are run for you from the dash to the trailer connector on the back of your vehicle. Often, a brake controller wiring harness is included with your tow package. This harness plugs into a port beneath your dash and connects to the four wires of the brake controller. If you do not have a harness, or you need a new one, the Tow Ready wiring adapter will serve the same purpose.

  • Wiring an Odessey Brake Controller on a 2005 Dodge 2500 with and without a Plug and Play
  • If the 7 way connector is factory installed, there should be a plug under the dash to connect the wiring adapter. Behind the emergency brake pedal, there should be a black box on the firewall with a bolt running through the center of it. The connector you are looking for should be located above it. If the 7 way was not factory installed, you will have to hardwire the brake controller. We have an online help page that describes how this is done. You will also need the appropriate installation

  • Brake Controller Installation On a 2006 Dodge Ram Pickup
  • You will need to connect the blue wire to the brake output wire at the back of the factory connector or under the hood on the driver side of the vehicle, right behind the front wheel well. Connection in this location does not require running the brake feed (blue) wire through the firewall. You will need to use a circuit tester, item # 3808, to make sure you have the correct wire once the rest of the brake controller wiring is completed. Have someone activate the manual slide on the brake control

  • Converting 4-Pole Flat to 7-Way Connector on 2008 Dodge Ram
  • The brake controller output wire and the 12-volt accessory feed for the trailer have not been run to the rear of the vehicle. You can still use the wiring adapter, part # 20261 but the blue wire from the controller would bypass the adapter and extended with a length of 12 gauge wire, part # 12-1-1 that is ran to the 7-Way trailer connector. If your trailer has any accessories requiring 12-volt power, you would need to run an additional length of 12 gauge wire from the positive battery termina

  • WhereTo Locate a Brake Controller Port on a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 with Factory 4-Way
  • Your truck may or may not have a connector under the dash for a brake controller. It is usually a blue connector located just to the right of the emergency brake pedal. It should have 4 wires coming out of it that are labeled. I have included a link to a brake controller install page for Dodge trucks that should help you find the port if you have it. It will also walk through the installation process. Without knowing exactly what 4-Way to 7-Way adapter you have, I cannot say for sure how it

  • Where is the Brake Controller Port Located on a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500
  • We have pictures of the brake controller port on 1995-2009 Dodge Rams. I have added a link to a brake controller and harness for a 1995 Dodge, part # 90185-3020P. Towards the bottom of the page you will see two pictures that show the port with a controller harness plugged in. It is almost directly above the emergency brake.

  • How To Wire Brake Controller To Wires Under Dash That Are Cut On 2004 Dodge Ram Factory Tow Package
  • The information that I have indicates that for the 4 wires under your dash, there should be a red-and-tan wire, a green wire, white-and-red wire, and a black wire. You will need to connect the red-and-tan wire to the Black wire of the brake controller. You will connect the green wire to the Blue wire of the brake controller. The white-and-red wire will connect to the Red wire of the brake controller. The black wire will connect to the White wire of the brake controller. To connect the wires,

  • How to Wire a 2004 Dodge Ram for a Brake Controller Using a Universal Dodge Adapter part # 20261
  • The best and easiest way for you to install a brake controller in your 2004 Dodge Ram is to use the Universal Brake Control Wiring Adapter, Dodge, part # 20261, you referenced. It installs easily by plugging into the OEM harness located under the steering wheel, just to the right of the emergency brake pedal. The wires from the adapter harness will wire color to color to your brake controller. Most brake controllers will have an indicator light that will be on all the time, but the ampera

  • The adapter you need that will plug into your 2011 Dodge Ram is the Tekonsha Brake Control Adapter, part # 3021-P. If your Dodge Ram has a factory 7-way, you will only need the # 3021-P adapter. I have linked an FAQ on brake controllers.

  • Brake Controller Installation Instructions and Wiring Needed for a 2005 Dodge Ram Pickup
  • When installing a brake controller on your 2005 Dodge Ram truck, you will need the brake controller wiring harness that you mentioned for Dodge trucks, item # 20261. This harness is spliced to the like colored wires coming out of the back of the Draw-Tite 2-8 Brake Electronic Brake Controller, item # 5500 that you mentioned. • Parts Needed to Install and Electric Trailer Brake Controller on a 2002 Dodge Dakota
  • If your 2002 Dodge Dakota does not have a factory installed 7-Way trailer connector at the rear, you will need 3 items to install a brake controller. First, you will need the brake controller itself. I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P2, # 90885. The P2 is one of our most popular brake controllers because it is easy to set up and use. Next, you will need a 4-Way trailer wiring harness if you do not already have one. To add one, you will need Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118329. I hav

  • Completing Tow Package Wiring on 2006 Dodge Ram 2500 with Factory 4-Pole Trailer Connector
  • You are correct, at least two of those remaining wires will need to be dealt with in order for your trailer brakes to function. On the Ram trucks equipped with the OEM 4-pole trailer connector, the blue brake output wire from the outlet under the dash simply ends in the engine compartment, and does not continue to the rear of the vehicle. You might be able to access the blue wire in the engine compartment, behind the drivers side wheel well. Look for a wire connector as shown in the photo.
