Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1997 Chevy Express Full Size Van

Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 1997 Chevy Express Full Size Van

Some of these vans have the plug in from the factory, some dont. Generally most conversion vans will have it back in the panel here. This van is a regular passenger used as a work van, but if you have the plastic around here chances are the plug is in here. What you need to do is take this off and the components behind it to get to the plug. This is the plug we need right here. What well do is plug into this and run it out the bottom and its designed to kept in the van.

We still have to ground the connector here with this loop. So we need to take out the jack which gives us a nice area between two layers we can drill through. Then we add on our ground and snap in our connectors behind here. After which we put the rest of our equipment back in this panel. For most applications this is done, this gets left inside the vehicle if this had a door it would be tucked inside here. Since this is a work vehicle, chances are this will get chewed up in no time flat. So we run it outside the edge here and down to the hitch and do a conventional knot that way.

What well do is mount our four pole, bring it over here and it will mount to this connector which will mount to this frame bracket here. Well bolt in on there and put extensions between this bracket and this because it will be a little short. Were going to use this extension piece without splicing or cutting. Since it will be a permanent connection, were going to put some dielectric grease on here, then we use a zip tie to hold it together. Then we run it through here and it pops out for a friction fit. All that remains left is tie up your excess. We zip tie it to the frame here. So that pretty much finishes up the wiring install.

Buy the longer one. This is a little too short for a Firebird application.1730

  • Recommendation for a Trailer Side 4-Way Flat Connector on Trailer Towed by 2006 Toyota Highlander
  • We have a 20-foot 4-Way trailer side connector, # A20WB. This is a wishbone harness which means that the running light signal is split at the plug and the signal is sent along to each tail light rather than using a jumper wire between the two tail lights for the signal. We also have a 35-foot harness, # A35W42B, that works the same way. I have included a link to a video showing this harness being installed for reference. Either harness will be compatible with the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness
