Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2000 Chevrolet Blazer

All right, today we are going to install part number 118002 from Tow Ready. And we are going to install this 4-Flat Car End on a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer. And we will show you how to mount it. It comes as a very simple kit. It comes with a 4-pole flat for the car end, and also four wire caps to tap into the wiring on the vehicle. What is really nice about the GMC Jimmy and the Blazer we have here is that the wiring harness is actually already provided for a towing package. They all have it, and it is located actually behind the license plate light right here, zip-tied to the back side of the bumper. So just cut the zip-tie, basically, pull it down, and all your wires are there, ready to go. And on the harness here, it actually tells you what wire does what function, so that is pretty handy. So what you want to do is go ahead and pull up the tape on the wires here. They are staggered, so you are going to go up pretty far to get to the ends of each wire.

OK, we have got our wires spread apart here, and we will go through the color code. The white is going to be ground, and this brown is going to be the running lights. And there are two greens: The light green is actually going to be reverse lights, and the dark green is going to be your right turn. We will go ahead and wire up the harness. Brown is going to be the running lights. The same circuit is going to be on our 4-pole, so we will go ahead and hook that up. Just snap it over one wire, and the second one uses a tap you just put it right next to it and squeeze it with a pair of pliers. Give it a good test and then just snip off your extra. Next we will work on our right-turn signal, which will be green here and is actually going to be dark green on the tow vehicle harness. There is a light green here - do not use that one. Get that out of the way. Use your dark green wire that will be right turn. We have shortened the wire so we can stagger our connections so it looks a little bit nicer. Ideally, when you are done you will not even see this. Next we are going to work on our left-turn circuit, which will be yellow. And on the tow vehicle harness it is going to be yellow, also. And our last connections is going to be our ground wire. So, white is going to be ground on our vehicle harness and white is going to be ground on our 4-pole flat.

Now these connections here, you can get by and probably sneak these on here like so. This gauge wire is a little bit heavy for this quick splice here, but it can be done. We will go ahead and do it here, but you might honestly be better off using a different type of connector. But we will just show it here how it would look. Once you have all your connections secured and all the excess cut off, you can go ahead and just tape everything up and make it nice and neat. As you can see, we just bundled the wires up to the original harness and ran just enough up to get out to the end of the hitch. All right, and with that, that covers our install of part number 118002 from Tow Ready.

  • Recommended Vehicle Wiring Harness for 2000 Toyota Rav4
  • For your 2000 Rav4, you will need the Vehicle Wiring Harness, part # 118388. The connectors on the harness would plug inline with the connectors behind your tail light assemblies. You would need to access the rear of each tail light assembly, unplug the factory connector, and plug the wiring harness in between the factory connector and the tail light assembly. • 1992 Nissan King Cab Truck Requires a Converter
  • Because your Nissan uses separate tail light circuits for the brake lights and turn signals, a tail light converter is needed. Typically, trailer brake lamps and turn signals share the same circuit, one bulb in the tail light preforms both functions. Because of this, a tail light converter is needed to combine the separate turn signal and brake light circuits on the truck. We offer a T-1 Connector, part # 118353 that is reasonably priced and very easy to install. The T-1 would install by disc

  • Installating a 4 Pole Wiring Harness for a 1999 Chevy Cavalier
  • Unfortunately, a plug in type connector is not offered for your vehicle. The 4 pole wiring harness, part # 18002, must be tapped into the existing wiring. It is a pretty easy process, the wires tap into the existing wiring behind your vehicle taillights. Green would tap into green, yellow into yellow, brown into brown, and the white would be grounded to clean, bare metal on the chassis. We have a video of a similar part being installed on a 1996 Chevy Lumina that may be helpful that I have li

  • 4 and 5 Pole Trailer End Connectors
  • We have trailer end connectors in both 4 and 5 pole configurations. Also, we do carry covers that can be added to 4 pole connectors and boxes that can be mounted on the trailer to store connectors in. Cover number 30512 has an LED tester on it. We also have circuit testers that can be put in line with the vehicle and trailer or just plugged into the vehicle. The 5 way circuit tester, 20115, is an in-line model and should work for both 4 and 5 pole connectors. I have posted links below for your

  • Trailer Lights Go Out When Plugged into 2007 Hyundai Entourage
  • It sounds like you have to much draw on the system, if you are not blowing fuses, for the car to handle the trailer lights with this wiring harness. If the connector is working properly without the vehicle lights plugged in the vehicle is not designed to handle the draw placed on it with the trailer hooked up. In this case you will need a powered wiring harness, item number 118410 for your 2007 Hyundai Entourage. This harness will supply power to the brake lights on the trailer separate from

Once you have access to the wiring you will need to use a circuit tester, item # 3808, to test the wiring and splice the proper wiring from the trailer connector, item # 18002, into the taillight wiring. The wiring on the connector is as follows. Yellow is left turn/brake light, green is right turn/brake

Yellow is for left turn signal and brakes. Green is for right turn signal and brakes. I have included a link below to our wiring FAQ page that shows and explains the functions of various trailer connectors, both vehicle and trailer ends.

  • No Problem! Each ground wire would simply ground to the trailer frame. You can use a self tapping screw, and make sure that the area you are attaching the wire to is not corroded. • How To Hard Wire a Trailer Harness to a 1982 Jeep CJ 5
  • We have not yet had the opportunity to install trailer wiring on any of the older Jeeps yet. You will need a circuit tester, part # 3808, to make sure you have the right wires, but it is a pretty straight-forward install once you get your hands on some wires. The white wire on the connector is a ground wire, so it needs to be attached to the vehicle frame. There will probably other wires nearby grounded to the frame that you could splice to. The brown wire is for the running lights. Turn o

  • Installing Wiring Harness on 2009 Lexus RX350 with Factory Tow Package
  • The RX350 with the tow package is somewhat of a rarity. Since your Lexus has the wiring port in the rear drivers side cargo area, I would recommend using a circuit tester like part # 40376 and check to see if that port is active. Activate the left turn signal, and probe the wires until you locate the one that makes your tester light. Repeat this procedure to identify the right turn and running light circuit. I would recommend also testing the right and left turn wire on the port to make sure you

The wiring harness that is recommended for your vehicle is the Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring for the Lexus RX350, item # 118478. This harness does not have a converter box included that converts the signal down to the 2 wire signal used by the trailer. You will need to install Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 118325. • Troubleshooting Trailer Running Lights
  • The first step to troubleshoot your problem would be to determine if the wiring problem exists with the vehicle or the trailer. Turn on the vehicle headlights, and use a circuit tester like part # 3808 on the pin on the trailer connector that feeds the running light circuit. If your vehicle has a 4-pole connector, test the pin being fed by the brown wire. If you are dealing with a 7-way connector, you would test the pin in the 11:00 position. If the tester indicates voltage on the pin you are

If the 4-pole connector is an aftermarket addition, trace each wire leading from the connector to ensure that they are still connected. If the trailer connector is factory installed, it might be a blown fuse. The fuses that protect the towing circuits are usually located under the hood, it is possible you missed t
