Today on this 2011 Chevrolet Equinox we are going to be installing Curt hitch part number 13591. Before we get started, we are going to show you a couple final installed dimensions which will help make choosing your hitch accessories a little easier. From the top of the receiver tube opening, to the ground is going to measure 14 inches. From the center of the pin hole to the outside edge of the bumper is going to be approximately 5 inches. Now we will go ahead and move on to our installation. :23.
We are gong to start off here, underneath the vehicle. The first thing we want to do here on this Equinox is remove the appearance panel that is at the bottom of the bumper here. To remove it, if you look underneath it you will see a push clip, there is one on each side of the panel. You need to take a pair of needle nosed pliers and press those in. That should allow us to pull the panel away from the bumper. With those two bottom ones removed, we can take and start releasing the ones that are on top. :50
With the panel removed we can continue underneath the vehicle, we are next going to lower the exhaust system down to give us a little more working room. There are three hangers on the exhaust system, one on the passenger side, one on the driver side, and one directly in the middle just forward of the muffler. In the removal of the hangers of the exhaust system, we are going to use a spray lubricant, like a WD-40. Then take a pry bar or pair of pliers and go ahead and separate the two. Before I do a third one, I am going to put a support strap across the main exhaust tube because once I remove the exhaust off of its third hanger the system will want to fall. If not properly supported, it could damage the system. Starting at the bottom of the bumper, hidden behind where we removed the appearance panel, there are two existing weld nuts here. These are going to provide the two center most attaching points for the trailer hitch. Moving over to the passenger side frame rail, if you look on the outboard side, nearest the bumper you can see we have two weld nuts, one on top of each other. Those are going to provide our attaching points for that side of the frame. That is going to be the same on the driver side of the vehicle as well. 1:53
From there we are basically ready to install the hitch on any vehicle that has seen at least one winter. The weld nuts that are likely in the frame have corrosion or road grime built up in them, so we want to go through first and clean those out thoroughly to ensure the bolts do not get hung up when we go to install the hitch. To clean the weld nuts, we are going to take a spray lubricant like a WD-40 and do that for all the weld nuts. You may need to do it more than once to ensure the road grime and corrosion is pulled out of there. You can even take your bolt and feed it in there and give it a test fit. Into each one of those weld nuts we are going to be using 12 millimeter bolts along with conical tooth washers that are provided with the installation kit. What we want to do is leave the two middle bolts loosely installed until we get everything in place. We are now going to move to the side of the frame, I am on the passenger side, and put our hardware into the weld nuts. Then we will go over and do that for the driver side as well. Then we ill be ready to tighten our bolts down. 2:48
I am going to go back through and torque the bolts down. I am going to verify with the directions the specific torque rating for each individual bolt. For the torquing process, I am going to start by torquing the bumper bolts first, and then the outside bolts last. With all the bolts torqued down the only thing left to do is put our exhaust back up on its hangers and our installation will be complete. With that, that will conclude the installation of Curt hitch part number 13591 on a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox.

The Curt Hitch I purchased for my 2011 GMC Terrain,Part # 13591, fit perfectly and the installation was less than 30 minutes. I did the installation alone and I didn't have to lift the back of the vehicle. I used a Floor Jack to lift the hitch into position. You do not have to drop down the muffler and pipe. There is plenty of room. For your GMC Terrain or Chev. Equinox, be sure and use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector-Part # 56094. It is excellent quality, installs easily and costs less than the other one listed. Best of all, you don't have to run a wire from the back of the vehicle, all the way to the front and make a Battery connection. Watch the installation video's, they are a great help, but there was no reason to drop down the muffler and pipe. If you're not helpless when it comes to working with your hands and using tools, you will have no problems. This Curt Hitch and Harness is great.25946

Saturn Vue Redline hitch install Sometime last month you were helping me with info for my 2006 Saturn Vue Redline Edition. I ordered last week, got the part in a day and a half later (way fast). Just got to install it today. It actually doesn't require cutting however I'm probably going to do it anyway. In the pictures attached you can see that the part installs just fine without cutting the bumper fascia as recommended by your tech's, but it does rest on top of the hitch and I dont like that so I'm going to do minor cutting. Anyway, here are a few pictures that you may use on your site. Curt Hitch for Vue Redline I recently installed this hitch on my 2004 Saturn VUE Redline. This hitch fit right into place and installation was a very easy. There is a small amount of trim work needed on the bumper, but it is at the very bottom of the bumper and hardly noticeable. I have seen other people trim alot more than I had to. Installation only took about 15 minutes. I used a floor jack to hold the hitch while I started the bolts (unfortunately I don't have a lift in my garage like they do in the video). My hitch was at my door (with standard shipping) less than 48 hrs after I ordered it. I saved about $100 by installing myself vs taking it to U-Haul to have it done.27137

This is a great looking and sturdy hitch. I watched the installation video to assist me with installing on my 2006 Saturn Vue, which helped out a lot. Installation was pretty straight forward, a little tight going on, but I would expect that. the only thing I'd look for is a little bit longer 'fish wire' for installing the bolts/backup plates in the hidden locations on the upper center beam (I added a piece of wire onto it to make it long enough to reach the outer beam holes). Other than that, very inclusive kit, thanks guys!23680

I received the hitch on 31 August and started the install at 0800 on 1 Sep. and completed at 1100. Like other people had reported I also had to elongate a few of the mount holes to get all 6 bolts started. 3 hours might seem like a lot of time but laying on the garage floor and doing all the lifting by myself plus installing and checking the wire harness (great product) didn't seem too bad (after I was done). Also like other people had reported the product was not shipped in a box sturdy enough to prevent the vertical arms of the hitch from poking through. Didn't cause any damage but it sure did look bad. Seems like a good quality hitch and wire harness for a good price. I bought both items from you for less money than I could get just the hitch for locally. I hope to get a lot of use out of the products. I will recommend your company to my friends.23368

Bridget was knowledgable and most helpful. Product came promptly and installation was about 40 minutes (I'm 61 I suspect 20 minutes 20 or thirty years ago). Also the trailer connector with the GM T connections (56094) was just right. The instruction that came with it were most helpful on getting into the tail lights, and Bridget was most helpful in reminding me I might need it. Installation was about 40 minutes also. Well made hitch, but it arrived with one blemish in the powder coat (bare metal showing) in a place wear it should not have seen any wear in shipping (on the forward facing side in the middle of the center bracket) - touched it up with some rustoleum paint to prevent rust. Fit to vehicle was pretty good, except lower right side bolt hole would not line up (close but no cigar - couldn't get threads started). Had a choice of dropping it down and doing some bending on the center bracket or using a pry bar on the end against the vehicle frame - already had four of six bolts in - opted to pry. Once all six bolts were well started it snugged up nicely17205

The box was torn up on both ends, front and back with parts of the hitch hanging out of it, which made me think there may be some damage to the hitch. It was actually in great shape, but a couple of the bolts were tough to get started because they were at the limits of the slotted holes in the hitch. Overall it was pretty easy to install due to the use of the factory mounting points. Aside from the packaging, this is a very nice hitch that I would recommend.13976

Very quick shipping. The hitch appears very nice but was a nightmare to install. You really need to follow the advise of cleaning the mounting holes or you will never get the bolts in. I also had some trouble getting the bolt holes to line up not sure if it was my fault or the holes were a little off. The wiring package I bought with the hitch could not have been eaiser to hook up. I simply had to plug it up and there was a ground beside the hook up point. I am pleased with items but it wasnt quite as easy of an install as I have had with other hitches. 11021

2008 Pontiac Torrent PIece o' cake. Six bolts, fifteen minutes. It can be done solo, but if you do, keep some thick boards around to raise it to installation height so you can get the first bolt in. After that, the rest are easy. It's probably unnecessary if you torque it down, but I put a bit of Loctite on the threads for insurance.10408

Great product. Had a little trouble with the installation when I bolted the center section to the bumper first. Removed the bolts from the bumper and bolted the sides to the frame. Then I was able to move the hitch into position to bolt the center to the bumper. Installing the wiring harness was a piece of cake!!! It took me just over an hour for the installation of the hitch and the wiring harness. I highly recommend etrailer! I received my order just two days after ordering and didn't even have to pay shipping charges!9829

The way business should be done. I bought a Curt hitch for my 2006 Saturn VUE. etrailer.com had the best price. I was a little bit concerned about ordering a hitch online, but they were fast, informative and had everything in stock. The hitch was really easy to install, and the directions were great. I will deffinately buy from here again. 4981

just as expected The install took about an hour with a limited set of tools, but not due to the part, the weld nuts in the frame rail of the car were not exactly in the correct spot. Running a tap through them would have been very helpfull.2159
