Alright, today on this 2011 Toyota Highlander we are going to install part number 13534 from Curt. This is what the hitch looks like when it is installed on the vehicle. Next we will give you some measurements that will help you out in ing some accessories, such as a ball mount, a bicycle rack, or a cargo carrier. From the top of the receiver opening down to the ground is going to be 15 inches. And then from the center of the hitch pin to the outside edge of the bumper is going to be about 2 inches. The first thing we need to do on the bottom of this vehicle is remove some of the splash panels that are underneath there. There is one on each side of the vehicle. We will go ahead and remove those first. The passenger side will be reinstalled at the end of the install and the driver side will remain removed. Alright, now there are a variety of fasteners we need to remove. There is a plastic fastener here and it looks like there are some bolts that hold the rest of it in place. Maneuver it a little bit until it pops out. Now we will go over to the driver side and remove that one as well. We will go ahead and work this out. 1:44

Now we have the hitch up here. And you can see how it sits on the sealant that is around the edge of the frame here. We will go ahead and remove the hitch and clean that out a little bit so it sits up against the frame. And we will just use a gasket scraper to help scrape away the excess stuff. With this stuff out of the way, it will make it a lot easier to line up the bolts that go in the side of the frame as well. We will go ahead and loosely install the rest of the fasteners. It does not really line up right off the bat so you have to move the hitch around to help line it up. That is why you leave everything loose. Now you may need to move the hitch back just a little bit to get this threaded in. So, even though it is loose, you probably have to push back a little bit and pry. We are just going to use a prybar and just kind of wedge it between the hitch right here and the back of the bumper mount. And just kind of push it back. You can see how it moves. 4:00
Alright, let us go over to the driver side and we install the remaining fasteners over there. Now this one is just a hair off. And this is another good reason to keep everything as loose as possible. However, if it does not seem to move enough, you can take a wooden block, put it against the spare tire and take something to pry with and you can move the hitch over to make it a little bit easier. And you may have to apply pressure and then put the bolt in. With all of the bolts started, go ahead and snug them all down. And then we will go ahead and torque the bolts as specified in the instructions. Alright, now we can go ahead and put the splash guard back into place. OK and with that that will finish our install. And there you have it for part number 13534 from Curt.

Very pleased. Quality equipment, great service, excellent instructions. Will offer one suggestion. Instructions say driver side under pan can not be re-used. I simply cut approximately 1/4" by 6" slit to allow the vertical hitch plate to protrude through the pan. I then made a cut between the opening for the tow eye and the rear part of the pan, worked it around the hitch, and re-installed it. Made a nice, neat, finished looking job and protects the underside of my vehicle.. It was a very easy mod that requires a hacksaw or razor knife. You could include a paper template with the instructions. I've already recommended you to other people. 17495

Curt Hitch arrived with one end hanging out of a ripped box - exposed end had powder coat scrapped off edges and end. Too bad - ends need pad wrap before boxing. Hitch is heavy and well made. Despite elongated holes, I had to bolt loosely the right side, and then used a come-along to pull left side out enough to put the bolts in. About 1/4" deflection of hitch was needed to get the bolts into the elongated mounting holes. Otherwise, bolted up well, fit well. If factory addresses what appeared to be distortion on the left side from the welding process, and someone padded the "sharp" ends before boxing, product would be excellent. etrailer installation video was a great help!17081

Curt Hitch for 2011 Toyota Highlander What can I say? It fits a 2011 Toyota Highlander just fine. Instructions say to throw away the driver's side rear plastic mud shield as hitch bracket is in the way. But 5 minutes worth of work with a Dremel tool, and I could reinstall it also. This hitch is about a third of what the Dealer wanted! Also, don't forget the wiring harness.4296

I selected this hitch since I want to carry 4 bicycles or tow a motorcycle in my SUV. As many other users, I received the trailer hitch box broken in one side but the hitch was not damaged and paint was OK. The installation was quite simple in spite of the weight of the unit. The holes fitted almost perfectly with only a little bending necessary. I was able to trim the driver's side plastic panel in order to reinstall it again without much trouble. Excellent quality! Ordered the hitch and was delivered within a couple days. Box was a little tore up but the hitch was in tact and good shape. Installation went well except for the front hole on the driver side needed to be filed about a 1/8" to the left of the slot. Only discovered after all the other bolts installed it was a no problem fix. Very pleased with the unit itself, and it looks good on my vehicle.27144

Hitch arrived in 3 days, no scratches on it--After the use of a hydraulic power pack to streatch the sides about 1" the unit fit like a glove. Was pleased with the finished look. The product is great easy to install with no mechanic skill required, if you can remove a bolt you can install this easy. The only tools can really help is an extension on socket wrench. Everything is included even the 7pcs 10mm bolt. Good price for a sharp and functionable trailer hitch, welds are execelent and heavy, ready to tow heavy loads. 23991

Like many, my hitch had busted through one end of the box when I received it. Fortunately, it was not bent. Perhaps an extra layer or two of corrugated should be added to the bolt-on areas of the hitches for shipping? Install was easy. I did it in 50 minutes. Curt's instructions are very clear and etrailer.com's videos really helped. The hitch fit great and looks good. Etrailer.com's service was excellent. Very helpful on phone prior to order. Good product. Video is big help, even though it isn't quite that easy! The positioning with a 2x4 is an essential process I suspect for each installation. No way the tail pipe drops down as easily as shown with out right tool, experience or a better explanation. Good news is that it is easy enough to just work around it.20549

I am very impressed with both the products that I ordered, as well as the excellent customer service and very fast shipping. I ordered late on a Sunday evening and the hitch assembly and wire harness arrived less than 72 hours later on Wednesday afternoon. I watched the installation videos on etrailer for both the light harness and hitch assembly for my 2009 Toyota Highlander and found them to be concise and accurate. The Curt hitch assembly was a rather tight fit - I had to wrestle with it for a few minutes to get the bolts to line up with holes in vehicle's frame, but beyond that installation was a snap! I bought the hitch and wiring for my 2008 Highlander Hybrid. The wiring was a little bit difficult because of the design of the vehicle -not the parts from etrailer. The connections were easy to find and the wiring worked perfectly. The only caveat is that the Highlander uses low profile mini-fuses and the ones that came with the kit were standard size (You have to insert a 10A fuse in the Highlander fuse box -it apparently isn't included by Toyota even if you have the tow package). It cost me $5.00 to get a packet of fuses so it was no big deal. The hitch went in flawlessly with what I would consider minimal effort. I was impressed by the quality of the hitch. The package arrived and the box was ripped. Some heavier packaging may be needed (reinforce the corners). The shipments was complete though and eveything was in good shape. The hitch went on with no trouble at all and fit perfectly. The installation videos were great. Everything fit together just as the videos showed. Shipment was very fast and the video instruction is a HUGE help. The only thing is that you MUST start securing the bolts from the driver's side (maybe a no brainer for an expert but not for a newbie like me). It fits perfect. Also two jack stands help a lot holding the hitch while you are under the car. I called around the local shops and they are charging $120 (or more!) for installation. My 90 min. was not only worthwhile but enjoyable. 16789

I only use this to carry my bikes, but it works like a champ. The install video was much appreciated, and well done. I installed this by myself, and it wasn't too hard. A little tricky to get it lined up to get the first bolt in, but once I had one bolt in I moved to the other side and bolted up. All in all, took me about 1 hour by myself. 2 sets of hands would've cut that in half.16175

Hitch arrived hanging out of the shipping box and scraped on one edge. Looks like the hitch fit perfectly in the box diagonally. But from handling of carrier and weight of the hitch, it tore through the box. Installation video was helpful and as straightforward shown. Only issue was screw hole alignment was about 1/4 inch off. Used a clamp to get holes aligned. Primary use is for bike rack and weather has not cooperated.12173

The Class III hitch for my 2008 Highlander fit perfectly and was a breeze to install (although it did help having an impact wrench). The instructions were clear and easy to follow. Although the instructions say to discard the drivers side cover panel, with a few cutouts it is possible to reinstall it.12132

Had to make it fit. I'm glad there were videos on this site to know how to install because the enclosed instructions were very poor. The hitch wouldn't fit. I had to bolt on one side and use 2x4 to bend the hitch and beat it with a baby sledge hammer. I got it to fit but it took me almost 4 hours. etrailer.com was good but the manufacturer did a mediocre job.2730
