Today on our 2013 Nissan Xterra we're going to be installing the Curt Hitch, part number 13514. Here's what our hitch looks like installed on our vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and give you a few measurements to help you choose some accessories for your hitch such as a ball mount, bicycle rack or cargo carrier.From the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is approximately a half inch past the edge of the bumper. From the top of the opening on the hitch to the ground is approximately 19-1/2 inches. Now we'll go ahead and install our hitch. To begin with we went ahead and already removed the spare tire so we'd have a little more working room.
Next we'll go ahead and point out the attachment points.These two bolts here will need to be removed from each side and we will also use the existing weld nut in the frame. Of the three bolts at the rear that hold the bumper on do not remove the top bolt. Now we'll go ahead and show you what the hardware looks like. The two most rear holes on the hitch will get a M14 bolt and a lock washer. You'll want to make sure when you install the conical tooth washer that the teeth are facing the hitch.We'll go ahead and clean the weld nut out using our tool brush, part number 814092 and a little bit of spray lubricant.
After we've done that we'll go ahead and check it and make sure that the bolt that we're going to use actually threads into it. Now that we've got the weld nuts cleaned we're going to go ahead and install our hitch.Initially we thought we could go ahead and install the hitch without lowering the exhaust but once we attempted it we were going to have to remove the two exhaust hangers lowering it a little bit out the way. There's three bolts that hold the exhaust back at the rear-these will need to be removed. Next we went ahead and attached a safety strap and then removed the other two bolts on the next exhaust hanger at the front of the vehicle.Now that we got the exhaust hangers removed it'll give us a little more working room at the back. Now we'll go ahead and install our hitch.
It's a good idea to get an extra set of hands in helping you raise the hitch up as well as installing at least one bolt on each side. Once you have one bolt installed on each side we'll go ahead and put the other two in. Now that we have all the bolts installed finger tight we'll go ahead and tighten them down and torque them to the manufacturer's specifications.Now with all the bolts are torqued to the manufacturer's specifications we'll go ahead and reinstall the two exhaust brackets that we removed earlier. That will do it for the installation of our Curt Hitch, part number 13514 on our 2013 Nissan Xterra. .

I installed this hitch receiver on a 2011 Nissan Xterra Pro-4X. Two people are required for sure. Also, simply removing the 3 bolts that support the exhaust per the instructions does nothing. I had to loosen the exhaust in 2 different places in the middle of the vehicle in order to get enough clearance for the hitch. After that, it was easy! Took about 45 minutes total.23166

Great Fit! I have purchased a couple of hitches from etrailer and have never been disappointed. You take care of your customers and keep in touch with delivery info. Fit perfectly on my '08 Xterra. Great looking hitch and the step platform is an easy way to reach stuff on the roof. The video mentions it's helpful to have a second set of hands.... I did it by myself but it was tough getting it around the muffler and took three times as long. Etrailer shipped my part and emailed the tracking number within a few hours of my order. Its a great hitch and I love it. It works perfectly for what I am using it for, which is towing my dirt bike to and from the track. I also received it in the mail way faster than I thought I would, ordered it on Monday and was at my house by Thursday. But it was a little harder to put on than I expected. I've ordered two other hitches from etrailer.com . Prices are low and shipping is quick. Upon receiving the Curt hitch, I was impressed with the packaging and quality of the finish. Installation on my 2011 Xterra took a tad less than an hour. I lowered the spare but left the exhaust and had no problem with the tailpipe. Driver's side plate required a bit of bending to fit in the required space. Fit was very tight and required rubber mallet tapping to line up the bolt holes but once in place did not move making a one person installation possible. Tightening the bolts was awkward but an air ratchet made it easier. I like the step on top of the receiver that allows roof access. I will cover with a non skid surface. I'd say the toughest part was removing the original bumper bolts- they are on TIGHT! Overall the curt 13514 is a solid nice looking hitch that is easy enough for a DIY install. This one had a higher capacity than the other brands and cost far less. If you have an Xterra I'd recommend it.25241

It took me about two hours to install this hitch including wiring. The instructional video on the website covers everything you need to know to get the job done with a minimum of stress. (You'll need some half inch tools and a torque wrench.) I had a friend help me get the hitch into position to bolt in. Doing that alone is probably possible but I wouldn't want to do it, it's a snug fit. All in all my experience with etrailer.com was great. Installation was pretty easy. Only had to bend the two mounting plates in a tiny bit to get them up onto the frame. It fit perfectly and looks good, like original equipment. Have not used it yet to pull anything. Being a steel fabricator I was impressed with the way it was constructed. It is very strong and smooth welds. I could have made it myself but preferred the powder coated finish. 23116

Shipping time from etrailer was excellent (ordered on a Tuesday, received on Friday) and the hitch came in looking great. Installation was very easy as there are only 3 bolts on each side of the Xterra that you have to deal with. 2 bolts are existing and one is new for the hitch. Fit is definitely snug so make sure you drop the tail pipe as stated in the instructions. Took a little over an hour to install. Finished installation looks great and I am very happy with the purchase. Installed on 2011 Xterra. 22062

The product was as advertised. I think that a video of putting the hitch on with out a car rack would be more realistic. Everything fit in place and it looks nice. Packaging broke through the box but all parts were still in good shape. Will be back for more of my towing needs in the future19387

The hitch receiver I purchased seems to be made very good and fits the Xterra well. The only issue was the install did take a little longer than I would have hoped, because either the spare tire must come down or the exhaust does for the hitch to fit up around the spare tire. Installed in aprox. 45 min. Also, allow up to 48 hrs. to leave etrailer. It did take a couple of days to be shipped out from etrailer. Although, if I had to do it over probably would still use etrailer.com - Thanks!!! 12585

Good fit, looks like OEM Easy to install, easier to remove exhaust hanger bracket to complete install. Nice tight fit. No spacers need like the other hitches. Only difference between OEM and this model is that it does not have the rubber step cover. I think some skateboard grip tape would be fine.3344

Installed hitch on my 2010 Nissan Xterra after watching installation video My tail pipe did not move down as far as mentioned in video I called customer service and got excellent advice and explained the hitch would not fit as shown in video He suggested pulling in the ears on hitch with a come a long which I did and hitch went in very tight with a little assist from rubber mallet The wiring harness was a piece of cake to install The Videos are the best I have seen THANKS for a great looking hitch67511

The hitch arrived with several areas where the paint had been scraped. The box had not been damaged, so the scrapes probably didn't occur during shipping. On my 2012 Xterra the bolts that had to be removed were so tight that using an ordinary socket resulted in nothing but splitting the socket. I turned the job over to a shop that has an impact wrench and sockets, and the hitch was successfully installed. The mechanic reported that the hitch is slightly wider than the distance between the frame rails, which made the job very difficult. In addition, most of the exhaust system had to be lowered. The installed hitch looks good and seems sturdy.67064

Shipping was fast and product was very well packaged. Installation was very straight forward. It says that the muffler was needed to be moved or removed but I did not have to in my case. Customer service was excellent and the hitch was delivered promptly. Installation took me about 2 hours, but would have been quicker if not for issues with lowering the exhaust on my 2007 Xterra. Even after unbolting two of the exhaust hangers, I was not able to get enough clearance to easily fit the hitch. Eventually, with much maneuvering, I was able to get it into place. You will need a six inch socket extender (which I did not have and made tightening harder that it should have been). Aside from that, everything was a breeze. Some additional information in the instructions might have helped. Highly recommended.56888

The item was shipped and delivered quickly. I did the installation with one helper and it went well. The fit was fine, it was just a little tricky to get it into place. It is a snug fit and all the mounting holes lined up correctly. I did not modify the hitch as some other reviewers said they did. My installation took about 2 - 3 hours. Videos certainly give you more confidence but not necessary for this installation. Straight forward and can be done by one person. If your bumper hasn't had any work done on it and/or was torqued correctly, it should be a breeze. Otherwise, have a breaker bar handy. The fit is very tight and the most difficult step. As previous reviewers pointed out, you'll need a rubber/wood mallet, but you can also use a regular hammer if you protect the metal with a cloth or glove.
