2002 MDX hitch definitely recommend this one with mounting points in the middle for the additional peace of mind. In my case i busted the middle nut on the right side of the chassis while trying to install a hitch bought from u-haul that did not have the center mounting points. After 8 years of driving the car, the nuts were rusted and needed rethreaded - read lots of back and forth work. Found that out after busting the first one... Now with only two bolts on one side I felt a lot more comfortable with this hitch. It mounts easily, does not touch the exhaust, looks great. 5108

Service so far is TREMENDOUS!! I had to write this premature review because I have been so impressed with the service so far. I ordered the hitch and minor accessories ( wires and cap ) and received multiple emails keeping me constantly up to date as the status changed from ordered, processed, shipped, arrived. Lives up to expectations! I recently purchased a used 2005 Honda Pilot EX. After talking with the dealer about adding a hitch, I decided this was an easy DIY project. I surfed the web and found this hitch and saved roughly $200 (including labor) by purchasing it from eTrailer and doing the install myself. This website provided step by step video instructions and made the job go much easier. The install took roughly an hour. My only issue involved the wrong bolts for the middle support. The parts list says these should be M8 1.25 x 35 - which were shipped with the hitch. However the installation steps mentions M10 bolts. The M8's were too small and after a quick trip to the local nut and bolt shop, I found the proper M10 1.25 x 35 Hex Bolts and completed the job. The hitch looks great, fits like a glove and was simple to install with basic tools and knowledge. I will order from eTrailer again.3025

Center bracket did not match exactly, (I guess you could bend it if you really want a stronger mount) but I didn't need it, as 6 bolts hold the hitch to the frame. The look is the most satisfying part, all you see is the receiver. I strongly recommend this hitch.1038

Installation was a hassle My wife really liked the hidden design of the hitch. But, the hitch (especially the middle bracket) does prevent the temporary spare tire from fitting flush up against the underside of the vehicle. But, there is still room for the tire. I presume there is room for a full size spare as well, but didn't test it. Since the Honda Factory trailer hitch also uses a center bumper bracket, I suspect this hitch doesn't take up any more room than the factory hitch. The installation probably would have taken about 1 hour. Having some jack stands and someone to help hold the hitch against the frame while the bolts are started is a must. I spent and extra 30 minutes - a total of an hour and a half (befored giving up for the night) trying to get the final bolt installed. The threaded holes in the frame on the passenger side were clogged with years gunk...making it hard to get the bolts started. AND - apparently one of the holes has misformed threads as the bolt hung up before it was fully inserted. I backed it out and discovered that about 2 rows of threads were stripped in the middle of the bolt. The other five frame bolts (and the two bumper bolts) went it in and torqued properly. I haven't yet been able to find a proper sized tap (12mm metric with 1.25mm threads) to rethread the frame. (It is probably going to cost $30 to $80 to buy a tap & die set, if I can't find one to borrow.) But, that isn't a problem with the hitch or the hitch design. I recommend that after you remove the tow hook from the driver's side, you use one of those bolts to clear the threads of the frame holes on the passenger side - and to test if there is a problem with any of the hole threads w/o damaging the bolts that came with the frame.170

This hitch is nice and sturdy, it attaches with 8 bolts and is going to be able to haul anything imaginable. There is only one problem that I have noticed with this hitch, when hauling a trailer the ball mount does not fix correctly, its just a little to loose. There is a little play in the connection. This isn't a problem with hauling, its just loud and sounds like the trailer is going to fall off. I have bought 2 ball mounts to make sure it wasn't the mount but it didn't fix the problem. I'm sure with a substantial pay load it wouldn't be a problem but I use it to just haul trash to the dump. On a side note, make sure you clean the treads of the exposed holes on the under carriage of the vehicle. Why Honda did not place a bolt or plastic tread cover over these holes boggles me. That was the hardest part of the installation. But that has no effect on this hitch, you would run into that problem with any hitch you try installing.26503

Installed on my 2007 Honda Pilot. The actual installion was as easy as it seems. There were two parts that made it a chore. The first was to remove the tow hook from the drivers side. A couple years of corrosion made it very hard to remove and I snapped one of the weld nuts. The second was cleaning out the existing nut holes. They two were dirty and it was impossible to get the bolt to go in. Lucky there are two videos on etrailer for this very issue. One shows you how to clean them and the other shows how to make a tap screw, which I had to do. Once the holes were clean, the install was a breeze. I did it alone and used the jack to hold one side while I bolted the other. I looks nice!24209

Although rust in open threads was more difficult than expected, but persistance with WD40 and wire brush to the job done, also used factory bolts from tow hook (tapered) to help clean thread. Excellent one! Exactly fits on my 2008 Pilot. I do not have to twist or turn the exhaust or remove the spare tire it exactly fits in the space. But I would still recommend to remove the spare tire just to give more room to tighten the screws. I am not a pro and installed it in 40 minutes. But you need atleast 2 if you are not a pro to hold hitch. It is heavy for a single person to handle. 21017

My installation could not have gone better. Don't underestimate the need to WD-40 and wire brush the threaded holes in the frame. My car was 3 years old when I decided to by this hitch, the frame holes were exposed to the elements all that time and were nowhere near ready to accept a bolt without being cleaned up. Once that was done it was easy, great product, instructional video a big help.19135

I just installed my new Curt Hitch on my 2006 Honda Pilot. I chose Curt because of the extra support bracket that it has in the middle. It looks great on the Pilot. It was fairly easy to install as all the bolt holes were already there. I only had to lower my exhaust and spare tire for access. The instructional video on etrailer was heplful for the installation. It took me about an hour or so, as I first had to clean the weather exposed bolt holes. I am looking forward to trying out my hitch.17089

This hitch fit perfectly on my 2005 Pilot. I installed it in my driveway, by myself, in about a half hour. I used a plastic five gallon paint bucket to hold up the hitch and installed all the bolts finger tight and then torqued them. The gloss black finish on the hitch looks great. Everything was packed very well and was not scratched or damaged. The wiring harness installed just like the video. I was quoted $450 from a local shop to install a similar product. I'm glad I saw the etrailers.com website. Now I'm thinking about getting one for our CR-V...15078

Shipping had no flukes and was upgraded at no charge, Thanks Etrailer for the upgrade. Hardest part of this project, if you do it yourself and not with a friend, is figuring out how to keep it in the air as you attach the screws. The videos say to use a rachet strap....sounds easier than it is to do. I tried alone and then enlisted my neighbor for about 5 mins. to hold one side and fasten 3 screws. After that it was golden. New Costumer for Life !!! It’s On!!! I am not a self-proclaimed DIY guy. That said I don’t mind trying to do a project. I was able do this by myself and I did it with no jacks or lifts. I was not planning to DIY until I saw the e trailer video for installation (2 people would have been easier). I have a 2004 Honda Pilot, which means I have six years of rust in the holes and on the muffler hangers. E Trailer sent me all the correct parts for my CURT hitch. (2) 10 mm x 1.25 bolts (use a 17mm socket, torqued to 42 ft. lbs) and (6) 12mm x 1.25 (use 19mm socket, torqued to 68 ft. lbs) I needed no different bolts or washers, the tab bends up tight as you tighten the two middle bolts. I supported the muffler with a step stool, the rubber hangers were a little difficult to get off. I sprayed both sides and both holes on the rubber hangers, that helped loosen things up. I was not able to dry run any of my bolts, so I had to clean out the rusted threads. I was not able to find a brush like they used in the video, but I did buy a ½” (13mm) copper brush from Lowes for $2.00. I may need to bend my heat shield around the muffler, I have not driven the car yet hear if it rattles. I needed to lower the spare tire (a simple process) to get at the middle bolts for the tab. FYI, do to my concern in getting off the tow hook after being on six years (I live in the North) I had it removed during a LOF with a impact wrench. The parts were delivered on the day they told with would. Pat was very helpful on the phone when I placed my ordered. E trailer sent me a 5% promo discount on my next order. I do plan to order again. As good as OEM Received the hitc in 2 business days...very fast. Installed it in 35 minutes on my 2005 Pilot. All of the holes lined up and there was no gap between the center bace and the bumper mount as others had mentioned. They were either installing it wrong or Curt fixed the problem. Be sure to LOOSELY install all bolts to allow for proper alignment before torquing them. I had installed 2 Honda OEM hitches on my 2007 Odyssey and my 2010 Odyssey. I can say the Curt hitch is just as strong and well made. The black coating also appears to be very thick. There was one minor (one inch) scratch on the hitch, assume from shipping, but it is hidden behind the bumper. Overall, I don't think anyone could be disappointed with this hitch if they want a strong, well-hidden hitch. Can't say how reliable it is at this point but I am not expecting any problems. I don't usually leave feedback but given the fast shipment and quality product, they've earned a recommendation from me.3436

During the install, loosened two bolts on each of the heat shields by muffler to get hitch to align in the holes. Box from UPS damaged, but contents were fine.2958

very solid and looks great I had a stubborn bolt so it took me longer than 40 minutes to install. it went on rather easily other than that. I love the way all you see is the receiver;the rest of the system is tucked behind the bumper. The eight bolt connection makes for a very solid design. I haven't hauled with it yet so I can't rate the reliability and performance. Recommend taking the time to route the wiring harness through the grommetts in the bumber...it only takes a couple of minutes.1554

Good product. Easy to track shipping. Installed hitch in about a hour. All parts were there. Had a hard time getting bolts started that were next to the muffler because of the rusty nuts on car. You can get the wire brush used in the video from etrailer "found it watching different video but I dont remember part number" or from a welding supply store. I used the factory bolts that I removed from the tow hook. The first part of the bolts are smooth and without threads so they self center as you drive them in and out to clear the rust. Impact gun was handy in doing this. Now new bolts threaded in with no problem. Hitch fits good. Wire harness went in just like the video. 23662

This was a perfect fit, and a well hidden hitch for our 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L. Follow the installation instructions - be sure to clean out the passenger side nuts with a brush and PB Blaster or WD-40, then run one of the factory tow hook bolts completely through each nut before attaching the hitch. It may take a few runs to get the rust cleared out, but eventually the bolt with easily run through the entire nut. The factory tow hook bolts are more tapered than the new hitch bolts, so they clean out the nuts much better than the new bolts. Lower the spare tire, too. It may not seem necessary, but it makes things a lot easier. I did this all in my shed laying under the Pilot. I had no trouble holding up the hitch by myself and starting a bolt on each side.22814

Excellent product. Installed by myself in about 1 &1/2 hours. I didn't have to remove the muffler to install . . . it just slipped right by and mounted without problem. Two of the existing holes in the frame had rusted somewhat and required quite a bit of cleaning to get the bolts through. That process actually took more than half of the mounting time. I would DEFINITELY recommend this hitch!21453

Got the hitch + wiring. Wiring was a snap. Hitch was tougher due to my car being older and therefore rusty - had to clean thread with a tap. Etrailer wa great! Fast and videos were spot-on. They even helped with the tap size!21247

I recently purchased a Curt httch to fit my wife's Honda Pilot. The quality of the product is top notch and installation was very easy. Had I not had to deal w/ these then I'd have had this on the car in 30 minutes. To install the hitch, I dropped the spare tire, removed the tow hook, threaded the bolts into their holes to ensure there would be no problems when the hitch was in place, lifted the hitch into place with the help of my wife, bolted down the hitch, and raised the spare tire. etrailer.com was great. I would definitely recommend this product, and etrailer.com - they are fast, and very responsive. I'm a tracking geek when it comes to ordering stuff online, and you know right away that they got the order, and when it ships, then the online tracking info shows you on a map exactly where it is. But on to the product! First, the videos on this site, and customer feedback, not to mention good prices and free shipping (over $150) were driving forces in making this purchase from etrailer. I was not disappointed. The shipping was quick (I did pay a few dollars extra for 3-5 days shipping, but only because we're going away in 5 days, and wanted to make sure we had it on time - but I would imagine it would have still gotten here quickly with regular shipping). Just like the video, installing this was a snap. I borrowed a torque wrench from a friend and cleaned out the bolt holes with a wire brush the night before, and the next morning installed the hitch receiver in about 30 minutes. Definitely easier with 2 people - my son help up one side while I put a bolt in the other side, then I was good to go. Only complaint (minor) is that there should have been extra cardboard support between the part in the center that sticks up and attaches to the bumper. It broke through the box during delivery. I was not damaged, but could have been. The actual hitch connector, although it was wrapped, probably could have had more padding, as there was a chip in the paint on the bottom... I can touch it up, so I'm not too concerned about it. The hitch is very low profile - others I have seen are larger and more obvious. This one is barely visible below the bumper, other than where you need to connect to.17957

After looking at several hitches and considering the Honda option I was most comfortable with this hitch which included the center bracket. The hitch lined up perfectly with all holes and was bolted on in minutes. I installed on a 2008 Honda Pilot VP. The only complaint I would make is the packaging from etrailer. The hitch arrived dangling from its packaging.. for a company that sells these everyday you would expect better packaging then throwing it in an oversize box with no filler.11482

2005 Pilot. EASY install for a 70 year old with good mechanical skills. No assistance needed. I lowered the spare a bit but did not take it completely off. Use the end of the exhaust pipe to hold up the passenger side while you start a bolt on the drivers side then put one in the other side and you're on the downhill run. A little WD40 is nice to spray in the already threaded bolt holes. BUY the optional wiring kit that just plugs in. Feed the wiring down through the knockouts for a clean professional look. Drill a 1/2 hole in the knockout, cut a split in it and reinstall. Hardest thing about the job was disposal of the shipping box. :>)11069

I put this on a 05 Pilot by my self with no problems. One thing they dont tell you is that you loose your tow hook (left side) I think it can be remounted with two bolts one smaller than the other futher back on the left side. Very well hidden under the car, bonus points for the wife!!30015
