Today we are going to install part number 12086 from Curt, and this is a 1-1/4 inch receiver hitch. And we are going to install this on a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. First off, we will show you where the hitch mounts up on the frame. We are looking underneath the passengers side of the vehicle, and we are up by the exhaust and heat shield. That little flat spot between the two is where the hitch actually mounts up on the frame. What is going to happen is, we are going to have to lower the exhaust out of the way. Then we take the heat shield down, and then we are going to put our hitch up into position. We are going to mark our holes to mount it with and then take it back down. Then we will drill out hour holes, install our hardware, and put everything back together - plus making a cutout for the exhaust shield. And this is going to be identical on both sides of the vehicle.

The first thing we did is, we went ahead and sprayed down the rubber hangers with some lubricant. Next we will install a strap so we can lower the exhaust in a slow fashion so we do not do any damage to it. All right, now we will go to the hangers closest to the rear of the bumper. Now we can go ahead and lower the exhaust out of the way. Now we have got access to all the screws up inside the heat shield here. All right, the hitch is going to mount on the bottom edge of this frame right here the access hole is going to be right here behind this sticker. So you have to remove that sticker to make room for your hardware, and the hitch is going to mount right here, the edge of it. There is a little edge right here where it s down - it is kind of hard to see, but it is going to meet right at that edge, right here. Just in front of that mark will be just fine.

So what we are going to do now is lift the hitch into position, and you are going to need an extra set of hands to help you mark the bolts. What you need to do to mark the bolts is to paint it real fast with some spray paint, and we will mark our holes and then go ahead and drill out everything. At this point, take a good look at the holes you spray painted, and take a couple of measurements to make sure they are even on both sides. Chances are it probably moved when you spray painted it, which is fine. Now you know where it is supposed to go, and now you know where to make your final adjustment and you can go ahead and drill out the holes. We will start out with a pilot hole first, 1/4 inch, and then follow up with a 1/2 - with a larger-size bit. Next you can go ahead and drill out your larger-size drill bit. You may want to go one size over in the drill bit hole. That way it will give you a little bit of extra wiggle room for the bolts so you can twist and move the hitch forward and rear just a little bit to fine tune it.

All right, now, this is our access hole right here, for the hardware. However, it is a little on the small side, so you can take a cold chisel and make a dent in it - make a V-groove in it - to give you some more room for it. See, you are going to need it for the block and also a little bit for the head of the bolt. Or, in this case, we are actually going to use a little Dremel tool to get the same task done. All right, next thing is we go ahead and fish wire our bolts into the frame. And this fish wire tool does come with the kit. What you do is just thread it in, run it through the hole you are going to pull the hardware through, and back out the access hole. First, slide on your block, push it back up into the frame, then thread your bolt on. Go ahead and put that back into the frame and pull it on through. And you want to do the same thing for the remaining three holes.

Let us go ahead and put the hitch back up in there and push the hitch up. Try not to push the bolts back in. Once you have the bolts snugged down, then you can go ahead and tighten them down to their final torque, as specified in the instructions. Next we are going to go ahead and mark out our heat shield here. And what we are going to do is, this flat spot where it is set on the frame here, that is what we need to cut out. This will give us a guide. We have got our heat shield cut out. Let us go ahead and fit it back into place. Strap that down. Then we will do the hangers going toward the front of the vehicle next.
