Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette

Today we are going to install part number 118130 and we are going to install this on our 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette. Now, this Silhouette actually comes with a load leveling compressor back here. When we have that option you always have a little bit of tow package option which is taped up right here. This port only is available on the vehicles with the compressor. And what we can do is tap off of this. First, we will untape it from the harness. It has a very short lead so it is kind of hard to work with. But, if you take your time, you can actually get a lot out of it. There are two different ways of doing it. One, you can go ahead and tap off the sides of the wires themselves with some scotch lock and tap off of it. Or two, you can simply cut off the port here and just wire it direct. A third option is, you can actually go to the dealer and buy the harness that plugs into this. However, it is just an extension with no converter of anything like that, so you still have to add a converter box and 4 pole on top of it.

So you may want to go ahead and forgo that expense and then just tap directly into the wire harness. And one nice part about this tow package is you will be almost wiring it almost color to color green to green, yellow to yellow, brown to brown. Black will be your ground wire actually and then the white wire will be the stop lamp switch. So pull the rest of this tap, try to free it up to get a little bit more wire out of it. Now that we got that freed up, we have a little bit better working room here. We will make our first connection to the green wire. And it is tight work, but be patient and it will work out. Alright, now we will do our left turn signal, which will be yellow. And we will do our running light, which will be brown to brown. OK, and we will hook up a red wire and that will go to the white wire here. The white wire on this tow harness is the brake lead. OK, and then our ground we will just go ahead attach this straight to the frame.

OK, and then we will just cover up our connections with electrical tape to protect it all. It is a tight fit so you will need patience. Alright and then we will take our converter and we will mount that to the bottom of the frame. And we will attach it with a screw to the frame. And you can mount this anywhere you want. Alright, we will run our wires safely out of the way and zip tie them back to the harness, and then we will take our 4 pole wire and run it out along side the hitch to the receiver. Now we will just take our wire harness and we will just bundle it up on top of the hitch and we will simply just zip tie it into place. Just do it in a couple of places to keep it from going anywhere. And then, just cut off your excess and that covers our install of part number 118130 from Tow Ready, on our 2003 Oldsmobile Silhouette with the load leveling package.

  • Trailer Lights Not Working with 7-Way Trailer Connector on a Toyota Landcruiser
  • Since the trailer lights work fine when being towed by other vehicles, the problem is clearly with the vehicle. I would recommend you use a Circuit Tester, item # 40376, to test the trailer connector on the Land Cruiser. Test the lighting pins on the connector as each lighting function is activated. Do you know if the trailer connector on the Land Cruiser is factory or aftermarket? If it is factory installed, there should be fuses on the vehicle that manage the towing circuits. One of the

  • How To Wire a Harley Ultra Classic with a 5-Pole Round and a Trailer with a 4 Pole Flat
  • I am guess that you have a connector similar to the 5-Pole round like part # PK11502. If this is the case, you have two options. You can either remove the 5-Pole round from your Harley and put a 4-Pole flat in place, or you can cut the connector of your trailer and use a 5-Pole connector for the trailer. I imagine the 5-Pole on the bike is mounted pretty well, so I would suggest replacing the trailer connector with a 5-Pole using part # PK11501. Using a circuit tester, like part # 3808, deter

  • Troubleshooting Tail Light Converter and Tail Light Circuit on Trailer Towed by 2007 Nissan Frontier
  • So the brake lights and turn signals are working fine but not the running lights, is that correct? Step one would be to use a circuit tester like part # 40376 on your current trailer connector. Test the pin that corresponds with the brown wire leading to the trailer connector. If this light shows power while the headlights on the vehicle are activated, the problem exists on the trailer itself and not on the vehicle. Trace the tail light circuit which is usually the brown wire back along the t

  • Have Running Lights and Trailer Brakes Function Properly but No Brake Lights or Turn Signals.
  • Since all of the functions on the truck are working properly, and you have narrowed down the wiring problem to between the junction box and trailer connector, I believe you have a problem with the trailer side connector itself. Check the inside of the trailer connector for corrosion. If you find green and/or white corrosion that will be where the problem lies. You will need to clean this corrosion out and make sure the connections are secure. Sometimes the corrosion is rather stubborn and the

  • Recommended Wiring for a 2010 Nissan Altima Sedan
  • I would advise against splicing into the vehicle wiring on your 2010 Nissan Altima. Like you mentioned regarding the issue with your 2007 Accord, by splicing, especially on newer vehicles, you run the risk of causing problems with the vehicle computer system, which could control everything from tire pressure sensors to something as crucial as the ignition. The best route will be to use the custom-fit wiring # 118470, as it pulls power directly from the vehicle battery instead of from the tai

If your truck came with a bundle of wires above the spare tire, then the functions you need should be as follows. The yellow wire is the left turn and brake light wire, the dark green wire is the right turn and brake light wire, the brown wire is for the taillights, and the white is the ground.
