Can be used with 5-pole, 6-pole or 7-pole adapters.
Installation: Connection points are located behind the vehicle taillights. The 4-pole trailer connector will be stored in the rear cargo area of the vehicle when not in use.
Tech Tip: It is always a good idea to apply a small amount of grease to all electrical connections to help prevent corrosion.
Read vehicle's owners manual and instruction sheet for additional information.

Today on this 2009 Nissan Murano we will be installing wiring harness part number 118481. Okay, we are inside the rear cargo area of the Murano here. And the connection points for our wiring harness are going to be located on the inside of the vehicle here. Behind the interior panels on both the driver and passenger sides. To gain access to these connection points we are going to need to do some removing of the interior portions of the vehicle. We need to remove the rear threshold plate here. There are three push pins here at the interior side of the threshold plate that we need to remove. We can do that by simply taking a flat head screwdriver and popping the middle piece up and that will allow the clip to release. From there we can just kind of gently rock back and forth on the threshold plate until the top clips up here release and we can set that side.
Next we can remove the side compartments from the inside of the vehicle. There are two screws at the bottom that are holding it in place. We want to remove the passenger side one as well. Next we just need to remove the fasteners holding the interior side wall in. You can see we have got a tie down hook here that has got a screw in it. We can also remove this tie down here. This one is actually a push rivet. To release it we just want to pick a flat head screwdriver and kind of pry the cap back and that will allow the interior clip to release. And we can just pop it right off there. There is a few in board clips here as well holding it in place. You can get in there with a rivet popper or if you do not have that you could use like a flat head screwdriver to get in there.
Pull away when you here the release. We want to remove the passenger side one as well. We just need to pull that back and up to gain access to the plug. If you look here wrapped in foam tape is our connecting point. What we do is just separate the two by pressing the little pad here at the top and you just disconnect the two. Next we can go ahead and take our harness and start plugging it into place. Over here on the driver side we want to take the connectors with the yellow and brown wires and plug it in line there. I am going to route the wires behind this junction block here. Again we can just plug the harness in line. You will note here on the driver side connector that we have a white wire with a ring terminal on it and this is our ground wire. What we need to do is find a metal surface to mount that to. The back side of the cargo area here is a nice flat surface right here that we can take our self tapping screw that is provided with our wiring harness and mount the ground wire to it. Okay, next we can take the longer lead, the red and green wires, and route it along this rear threshold area back here over to our passenger side where we are going to connect it behind the tail light assembly. Okay, then we can come back over here to the driver side. We are going to take the red wire here that is connected to our modulite box and we are going to connect it to the large black bundle of wire that is provided with our wiring kit. 04:18.
What I am going to do is take and strip back a little bit of the jacketing here on the red wire and we will add a butt connector to it here. We just want to take and crimp that down. And then we will take one of the ends of the 12 gage black wire and connect it to that butt connector as well. Just take some electrical tape and tape that connector up. Next we want to go ahead and take and mount our modulite box to the interior of the vehicle here. And go ahead and adhere that. There is a little lip underneath the underside of where we mounted our brown screw there. I think we can go ahead and secure that there. Next I am going to go ahead and pop the grommet out. What you want to do is take and cut a little hole in the middle where we can that 12 gage black wire through. We will just take and feed it through the hole here. Pull the full length of the wire all the way through and down below. When you have all of the wire down below you can go ahead and re the grommet and then note that the 4-pole is left here. We can do one of two things with that as well. You can either actually enlarge the hole in the grommet there and route the 4-pole down through so that it can be stored underneath the vehicle. Or we could leave it here inside the vehicle and pull it our the rear hatch when we want to use it. I think that is what we are going to do here. I am just going to kind of set it off to the side while I reinstall the components here at the rear of the vehicle.
We just want to make sure we zip tie up any loose wires that we may have left over. Now that we have got the cargo area reassembled we can go underneath the vehicle and go ahead and route our wire up to the battery. When routing the wire you just want to make sure you avoid any possible pinch points or hot spots that could damage the wire. Now that we have got the wire routed up under the hood we just need to go ahead and make our connection to the positive terminal of the battery. You can see we have got a cover here over the positive terminal. We can go ahead and remove that. You can see that we have got three different connection points that we can use. We are going to go ahead and use the rear most one here. Then next we are going to take our fuse holder that is provided with our wiring kit here. What we want to do is go ahead and cut the wire loop in half. On one end we are going to add the ring terminal here. I am just going to connect to the positive side of the battery. The other end we are going to strip back and a butt connector and we are going to connect it to the remaining portion of the 12 gage black wire here. Connect to the battery. And that will kind of give you a general idea of how much wire you can cut back with. And we will strip back a little bit of the jacketing again and make our connections to the butt connector. Okay and then we just want to take a little bit of electrical tape and wrap that connector up. Okay, and last but not least we just want to add the fuse to the fuse holder. That will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118481 on a 2009 Nissan Murano. 09:10

The wiring installation video makes the installation easier. I wish they have current video for 2011 Murano because there is a little more steps to do it. The written instruction that comes with it did not give how to remove the panel.18263

I had one of the 1st units that this company made without the circuit protection. After being installed for 2 years it melted down/started on fire filling my SUV with black toxic rancid smoke 20 mins into my haul, It was most likely do to a short between the Murano's stainless steel threshold plate and the cracked 4 wire harness that goes out the back hatch. I live in Minnesota and the insulation on the 4 wire harness does not stand up to being slammed in the hatch in our cold winter weather. In this weather the insulation is stiff and cracks off the wires. I did not connect my unit to the battery with the provided black wire and yellow fuse holder. I crimped a terminal blade on the converters red wire and plugged it into the factory connector. I held the two together with electrical tape because the blade terminal I used does not clip on to the factory connector. When the converter melted down it did not blow the fuse that the factory harness has. I am looking forward to my new units upgraded short circuit protection: "...upgraded circuit protected taillight converter ...Protects itself and the tow Nissan Murano against harmful electrical shorts and mis-wire situations." I would also like to note that my 1st unit was also defective because the running lights were always on. Even if my cars lights were off and even if my car was not running, lights off, and locked. Yep. I had to disconnect the harness EVERY TIME I did not want the lights to be on or it would kill my Murano's battery. Jeff Martin 17830

I installed the wiring for the trailer hitch. It was not quite as intimitadating as I thought it would be. I was really dreading this portion of the project. The video hit the mark. If I had to depend solely on the printed instructions, it would have been a more challengeing task. The video helped me to know what tools I needed and how to access the connectors.. The most difficult task was routing the wire to the postive battery terminal underneath the car and finding a good path to avoid the muffler, hot spots, pinch points etc. 11004

I was empressed with the ease of installing your "plug and use" wiring harness. The plugs all interfaced with the Murano's connectors (plugs) perfectally.10386

This wiring kit works as advertised. I didn't install it myself; I took it to my trusted mechanic shop. It did take the trained mechanic, with a lift, almost 3 hours to install. But now I have a functional trailer hitch light assembly!26262
