installation instructions and specs for complete information.
Today we are going to install part number 118461, we will be using this on a 2007 Subaru Forester. The first step involved with installing is taking off some of the interior panels and getting down to the floor. So we have to get down to the bottom where we can see the wiring and well trace it back to find the connector. This panel comes off first, followed by the panel underneath, and then this panel comes up. Now we have gotten to our wire harness, now we need to find the connector. Once we find our harness, well follow that back to the tail light as the instructions say, you look around and here is the plug right here. As a note this plug can be found on different models and years possibly further up here towards the front. You could also find them on the other side, just check the instructions before you start.
Go ahead and install it, then well show you where to put the module box at. What well do is install the module box along the body panel back here, clean this area off, let it dry, and then well use the adhesive to hold it into place. The wire will be kept inside the tire well, so it wont get pushed on or anything like that. Pull your wire harness as if you were going to use it, and well re-install the interior components. There you have it, when you need to use it, just pull it out and shut the hatch on it. The door hatch will not harm the wiring. When you are storing it, put it underneath the cover here, this nice little pocket or off to the side, and you are good to go. Your install is complete the wiring has been left out to show you how its going to be used in its towing position. The wire will be safe as the door wont smash it, just hide it underneath the cover and you are good to go.

This eTrailer wiring harness is superior to the one installed at the Subaru dealership. It has an adhesive patch which secures in the niche next to the taillight (and not in the wheel well where the dealer put it). It also has an inline fuse, so that if it does short, it won't cause the crazy behavior (turn signal stays always on without blinking). Therefore in my capacity as a very happy customer, I award you five stars plus a constellation without black holes. 18535

Easy once connector is located I just installed a hidden hitch and the T-one wiring harness on my 2008 Subaru Outback wagon. The vehicle's trailer harness connector is not where the instructions for the product say it is nor is it where previous users have noted it to be on previous models. For instance, there is no longer a side access panel to the taillight assembly. What you do is open the hatch at the back and pop up the carpeted floor panel to the left of the spare tire compartment, on the driver's side. Just pull straight up - it is attached by three plastic connectors. Then pop up, in the same way, the panel made of cardboard and rigid foam that lies beneath that carpeted floor panel. This exposes a narrow slot at the bottom outer edge of the rear compartment, in the hollow metal part of the car between the outside metal skin and and inside trim. The slot is several inches forward of the tail light. A wire bundle was barely visible at the very rear of the slot, looking like it was running to the taillight. INitially I ignored it and kept searching. But when I ultimately got around to reaching my fingers in and pulling on this wire bundle (after searching everywhere else), it turned out to not be connected to anything, but was the trailer wiring connector that had been bent into a loop at the factory and tucked into the slot. The T-One connector plugs right in. I cut out a square in the cardboard and foam base panel to run the wiring through so that the transformer box, or whatever it is, on the connector cable can fit in one of the spaces between the foam dividers that are glued to the panel and support the carpeted top panel. This way, the carpeted upper panel lays flat when snapped back into place. The cable was then routed down into the spare tire well. I cut a slice into the rubber plug at the rear of the spare tire well, as suggested by a previous user, and then a hole at the center of the rubber plug just large enough to fit the cable without distorting the rubber. I then pushed the plug back in place, with several feet of cable and the connector for the trailer now outside the vehicle. A little silicone glue around the cable where it passes through the rubber plug sealed up the spare tire well to finish the job. 1915

Wiring Harness for 2006 Forester Instructions should say the plug it right behind and under the rear passanger light. It seemd like it would be along the wall, but it wasn't. 5319

Excellent! This is the second purchase we have made from etrailer. Both times we have been pleasantly surprised (shocked) at the shopping experience, as well as the quality of the products . Now add in quick, courteous, professional communication, the price point and the super fast, fairly priced shipping, and that equals an "Excellent" rating. We have recommended this company to our friends, and we are looking forward to ordering again very soon! 3937

Wiring harness woes Hidden Hitch installation a breeze on my 2000 Subaru Legacy Outback. The wiring harness however was not in the location described in the instructions for 2000 Outback, but was located in the position described for Subaru Forester (passenger side in spare tire compartment under carpet next to wall.) Hope this tip helps any other 2000 Outback owners. 1967

Thank you Alan B Alan is right - it's not at all obvious how to find the plug in an Outback wagon. I've got a 2006 and once I figured out what the "anchor point" is (it's that metal loop that the cargo net connects to) the install is pretty easy. On my car, there's a black plastic cap inside the loop of the rear driver's side anchor point. Pop that cap off and you'll find a phillips head screw. Unscrew it and you'll be able to pull the interior trim panel away from the car. You may need to pry up the left side of the threshold to get the panel to pull away. The panel doesn't pull away much, but enough to reveal the plug. Mine was taped up and once I peeled off the tape I could feed the plug down under the bottom of the interior panel and reconnect the panel. Hooking up the wiring harness is a simple matter of plugging it into this plug. I didn't feed mine out through the bottom of the car as Alan did - just laid the connector in the tray that fits over the spare tire.1371

Excellent Plug-n-Play Harness Installed on my 2005 Outback 3.0R Wagon in conjunction with Hidden Hitch #87446. The only downside of the instructions are: 1. The picture did not depict well, at all, that the harness connector is on the drivers side of the car AND that it may be tape up in a loop. You need to unscrew the lower anchor point so you can pull the inner panel away to see which end to "yank" out of the tape. 2. There is a grommet at the bottom of the spare tire well. Take that grommet out, put some slices in it, route the harness thru it (so as to have your trailer connector mounted out by the hitch), put the grommet back in place, and put some silicone caulk on both the inside and outside of the grommet. If you're going to put the spare tire in before the silicone dries, put a piece of [wax] paper over the grommet to keep the silicone from getting on the spare tire itself.1178

My other product wiring failed electrically and the e-trailer item I just brought was much better because it had a fuse protector and cable conduit all the way to the trailer harness end. Also the trailer ball was better than two being replaced due to better chrome job and included wrench grips on the base of the ball for aid in tightening the nut/lock-washer.29338

The trailer wiring kit for my 2005 Forrester arrived promptly. I reviewed the installation video so had an idea about how to proceed. Being used to things NEVER going as smoothly as expected, I prepared myself for some glitches. Much to my delight, removing interior panels went just as outlined in video. The car plug-in was just where the video said it would be. The harness fits perfectly and looks professionally installed with no tools of any kind needed. Total installation time start to finish was less than 10 minutes and most of that was removing the spare tire to affix the harness portion that came with 2-sided tape. I had originally prepared to tackle the project using a universal wiring kit requiring wire location and splicing of wires. I discovered Etrailer while researching how to manually wire the lights. I'm so glad I found this product - it made a difficult job a snap, and the product performs EXACTLY as advertised. My highest recommendation.28670

It's refreshing to see a company so intent on customer service as etrailer is.. My order was shipped to me in less than 48 hrs and was just like they said it would be. Being a do it yourself person this was a very easy install. In this day and age of POOR customer service it is almost unherd of to have a company care like you do..I will let others know. Installed on 1999 Subaru Outback. The wiring harness was a simple plug in, by the left tailight, but a little tricky to get it to run out of the car. There actually was an oval rubber body plug up under the fender that you can just barely see from inside, and you can feel from outside, that I popped out and put a hole in for the wiring harness to go through. It was also a little tricky to get back in place with the wires in it, but it ended up working out nicely. It really was an easy install, plugged in, wires run outside, fastened them to car underneath, and checked lights. It all worked, 22357

Not the best fit. The mounting hole tolerance from left to right was very tight. The bend is too close to the hole and the washers were binding up as i tightened. Mounting the charcoal canister back on needed some tweaking to get it in position where the bolts would still be in the slotted mounts. The square cutaway to allow for the exhaust hanger pin should be positioned higher up, as muffler pin was hitting it at the top. I will need to look for a slightly longer rubber hanger to get the exhaust pipe a little further away. The harness was easy enough but i had to remove the styrofoam block to acces the connector. Luckily it popped out w/o breaking.21329

Be sure to review the install video to find the connector. I deviated from the video and put the connector behind the panel and into the jack handle storage area before connecting the harness, storing the harness there until needed. To me that is a much better solution than cutting the foam and having it loose in the center compartment. I don't think the lid would close as it should with the cable preventing it from laying flat.18907

On my 2009 Outback Wagon the harness was located on the drivers side behind the removable panel. It was folded up on itself and really hard to get at, but after some yanking it came apart and the rest was easy. I ended up removing the circular plug below the power plug next to the pocket behind the panel. You can connect the plug through the hole and stash it in said pocket when you're not using it. Way better than cutting up the foam trunk tray. 10221

The product works fine and installed without too much difficulty. I did note the installation directions are not specific to any particular Subaru model. You'll have to decide yourself where to place the box and route the cables. I found a location underneath the access panel just forward of the driver side taillight. 10211

Install guideline videos were extremely helpful both for selection for purchase and possibilities for mounting (for the 2007 Subaru Outback). Actual intall was effortless and clean. The T-One works flawlessly out of the box (a plus is the length of the wires, providing more than sufficient to reach out to the tailer connection). Appears to be well made with quality components. Lacks infor regarding maufacturer's warranty?? i would think than the comapny will and does stand behind their products.9679

Before looking on-line I stopped at the Subaru dealer to see if they made a wireharness that would plug in without any splicing of wires. After finding your great product I don't think they're even aware that there was a factory connector at the taillight. You out did Subaru. Thanks.9389

After the blindingly fast shipping of my hitch and wiring harness, I followed a combination of the written instructions and the video. The truth was in the middle, but it was a very clean, easy, installation. I pulled out the foam blocking on the drivers side at the back of my 09 Outback. I probably could have finagled the wire out without taking the wall trim off, but I went ahead and pulled it loose. After cutting a channel for the sheath in the foam, I just ran it over to the spare tire compartment and out through the grommet. It probably took 15 minutes to do the whole thing start to finish.9182
