Video Transcript for Wiring Harness Installation - 2009 Chrysler Aspen

Today on this 2009 Chrysler Aspen we are going to install part number 118390 from Tow Ready. This is their modulite wiring harness. The first thing we need to do is open up the back hatch of the vehicle and get to the fasteners that hold the lights in place. We are going to remove the taillights as our first step. These just have plastic fasteners that you just remove. When you pull these off, you want to kind of pull them off to the side a little bit and pull back a little bit. We can go ahead and disconnect this light for now. Just push in this red tab right here and push down this button and it comes apart. We have our driver side off. Let us go ahead and do the same thing with the passenger side. Next we are going to take our wire harness and we are going to the 4-pole end down behind the bumper, towards the ground for now. And then the lead with the red, yellow and brown wires, we are going to hook up to the wiring harness that was going into the taillight. Next we will take our white and green wire and do the same thing like we did with the 4-pole wire. Drop it behind the bumper and out of our way. 1:01

Next we will go ahead and route our wires to the center of the vehicle and across. We will start with our 4-pole and come back over the frame and back towards the center. We are going to leave our 4-pole be for now. And we will go ahead and run our green and white wire across. Alright, we will go ahead and run our wire harness back up behind the taillight. And we will go ahead and make our connection to the wire harness. We will go ahead and zip-tie our extra wire. Alright, let us go ahead and plug the T-connector back into the taillight. Now let us take our fasteners and we will just push them back into place. One more thing to deal with on the driver side before we put it back together is deal with the red wire here. This wire is going to be hooked up to the black wire that comes with the kit and is going to be ran up to the battery. We used some electrical tape to seal everything up. And we will go ahead and take this black wire and run it down behind the bumper as well. 2:06

We can go ahead and mount the modulite. We are actually going to spray down part of the interior surface and we will use adhesive that comes with it to mount it in place. Now we can go ahead and bundle up any extra wires and go ahead and reinstall the taillight. We will go ahead and route our wire up to the front of the vehicle. Now basically what we are going to do is follow the frame rail going up and over the suspension and up to the engine compartment. Just make sure we stay away from anything moving such as the suspension components or anything hot like the exhaust. We are at the front of the vehicle now. We actually ran the wire inside the frame using a fish wire and we got all of the way through, which is pretty nice. Now what we are going to do is wrap around the bottom edge and come to the outside of the frame because, on the other side, it is pretty close to the exhaust. We will just wrap it around and we will go ahead and run our wire up into the engine compartment. 3:05

Alright, let us go ahead and reach in and pull the wire out. We have our wire pulled up and we are going to run it across. Now we need to tie it off somehow. What we are going to do is put a series of holes in the plastic right here just so we can zip-tie our wires safe and out of the way, over to the battery. Next we will go ahead and add the fuse holder to our lead. We are just going to cut it in half and add a ring terminal to one half and a butt connector to the other one. Go ahead and kind of judge how much lead we want left over. Cut off the excess. We will go ahead and connect up to the positive terminal. We will be using this nut right here. And we will just attach to that. That is connected. Let us go ahead and add our fuse to the holder. And once you are satisfied that everything is working, go ahead and tape it up and zip-tie any additional wires if necessary. And with that that will finish our install of part number 118390 from Tow Ready.

Easy to follow directions and video on etrailer website. Only difficult part was running hot wire to the front to the battery, but that is my fault as I chose to route the wire through the frame. All the parts were enclosed and it works perfectly. Ordering and shipment was easy and fast. Thanks Lexus!!29889

Great trailer wiring connector The video was a great help. All of the required components were provided. I returned a different brand and glad I found this one. Be aware that the plastic plugs are two piece. I pulled the whole thing out and ruined them and had to buy replacements. I connected to the fuse box and its the way to go.3502

Excellent plug in wiring. My vehicle didn't come with the factory wiring harness so I started with this kit. It was a very simple installation if you are at all familiar with vehicle wiring. All the parts were included. Connecting to the factory tail lights was very simple as no splicing was needed at all. A big relief. This kit also includes an isolator which keeps trailer shorts from damaging expensive vehicle electronics. I added the 4-7 wire adapter to this kit to be able to use a trailer brake controller in my vehicle. Excellent service from etrailer.1682

Trailer harness connector harn I purchased this harness assembly approximately 2 1/2 years ago and it has failed. I am purchasing this one to replace the failed unit, but I did not purchase the original one from this merchant. I believe this merchant has a better product line 1636

Good product for the money Excellent option for those who want a 7-wire connector but are unable to find one. Dealer wanted $180 for this part. This adapter combined with the T-connector harness saved me over $100. Note: Requires separate ground (white wire). Does not use the ground from the 4-flat wiring harness it taps into. This is detailed in the instructions.1599

Expert Answers about T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4 Pole Trailer Connector - 118390 Do you have a question about this Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring?

  • Wiring Harness for a 2006 Dodge Durango
  • The available wiring harness for your vehicle, item # 118390 connects inline with plugs behind the taillights and you will need to run a hot lead to the battery. The power wire is needed to protect the vehicles sensitive circuitry. The trailer lights will be powered by the vehicle battery but will get the signals from the vehicle turn, brake and tail light functions.

  • T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness on a 2007 Chrysler Aspen No Longer Working
  • I would recommend you start by using a Circuit Tester and test the pins on your trailer connector while each function is activated. If you find that you are not getting a signal on the turn signal/ brake light circuits, use the tester to test the wires going into the converter box. If you have signal going into the box, but not exiting, the converter is bad and must be replaced. Before replacing the T-1 Harness, you'll want to carefully examine the wiring on your trailer. If the converter ha

  • Wiring Differences Between a 2008 and 2007 Chrysler Aspen for T-One Harness Part # 118390
  • There should not be any difference in the wiring process between a 2007 and 2008 Chrysler Aspen. They use the exact same wiring harness so there should not be any differences. All the connectors will be in the same location and should be able to run the power wire to the battery in the same location.

  • Wiring Harness Malfunctioning on a 2008 Dodge Durango
  • My first inclination is that the tail light connectors were flipped on your T-One Harness, part # 118390. The side that has the yellow and red wires should be connected to the driver side, and the green wire connector should run to the passenger side. The problems you described above usually are caused by this having the connectors flipped. If this is not the case, please write back and we will have to do some diagnosing. I have included a link to the instructions for reference.

  • Troubleshooting a Tow Ready T-One Harness on a 2007 Dodge Durango
  • It sounds like there is a ground issue on the trailer. If you can I would try connecting your trailer to a different tow vehicle that you know works correctly to verify that the problem is in the trailer or the tow vehicle. The reason I think it is a ground problem on the trailer is because you said that when you switch on your headlights the trailer lights quit working altogether. That is usually a dead giveaway for a ground problem. What usually happens is that the lights will work to a cer
