Video Transcript for Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2003 Chrysler Town and Country

Today on this 2003 Chrysler Town and Country we are going to install 118376 from Tow Ready. Our connection point is actually behind the taillight on the driver side. We are going to go ahead and take out these two plastic rivets, make our connections, then run our 4-pull to the inside of the vehicle, and it will be stored in the jack storage compartment when we are not using it.

Okay so lets get started, take out our plastic rivets, the light comes off relatively easy. You have to push the lock up towards the top where it unlocks it, then squeeze it, and it comes right apart. Next what we are going to do is modify our grommet here, because our connection points are going to be pushed behind the far wall here. So go ahead and take out the grommet and make a split in it and just remove the grommet. Next we are going to take our 4-pull end and push it back inside here. There is some installation stuff like that you probably have to work your way around. Then we will reach around from the inside, fromthe jack storage compartment, and pull it out.

We will go ahead and put the converter box inside too. Okay and we will go back behind the tail light and make our connections. We will plug them together, make sure you push that lock back into place because it can come apart. This assembly will go back here, make sure you keep your ground wire out, so you will end up with one plug and a ground. We will take our grommet and put it back together around the remaining wires and snap it back into place. Then we will ground our terminal here to the sheet metal below. Then we can go ahead and reinstall our tail light.

To use the wiring harness all you need to do is pull it out, put it over any part of the trim here, just stay away from the latch, and you can go ahead and shut your hatch onto it and pull out the length you need to get down to the trailer hitch. That way that harness is not sitting outside all the time and will not be subject to corrosion. And that finishes it for our part number 118376 from Tow Ready.

I'm not a huge under the hood kind of guy, but this was a simple install. I watched the video first. It was definitely helpful. It took all of 15 minutes to install the harness and at 25-30% of the cost of the other harnesses I was looking at. If you own a Caravan and need an aftermarket wiring harness, please don't go through the dealer....$$$$$ This harness is by far the easiest and least expensive way to go.18789

First of all, I was pleased at how quickly and inexpensively you shipped the product. While many businesses use UPS as their basic shipper, by sending it Priority Mail, I was able to receive the package within two business days of your prompt shipping. Second, you on-line instructional video was excellent and thorough. As a result, I was able to install the lighting harness very quickly and easily. I am very pleased with your service.16300

03 Dodge Caravan wiring kit I have been a professional auto repair tech for 35 years and this is the first time that I ever installed an etrailer wiring kit (That I can remember anyway). I must say that this is the best product of it's type that I have ever seen and the price is very reasonable too. I highly recommend this product. It was easy to install, worked perfectly, and the instructions are detailed and easy to follow.4667

Super easy to install This product was very easy to install. It took me about 30 minutes to install it. It also works fine. I was going to have a mechanic install wiring to my van but he said he couldn't because the van didn't already have the needed relays to install trailer wiring. This unit works fine and has not cause my van any trouble. I highly recommend this. Don't waste money having a mechanic install trailer wiring!1928

  • 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan T-One Wiring Harness 118376
  • You will only need one wiring harness for the 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan. This t-one harness connects in one spot behind the driver side taillight assembly. At this point it accesses the passenger side signals before the vehicle wiring goes over to the passenger side.

  • Troubleshooting Malfunctioning Trailer Lights On a 4 x 6 Utility Trailer
  • T-One harnesses are almost impossible to wire incorrectly, so I would say it is most likely somewhere in the trailer wiring. Whichever side, driver or passenger, is having trouble, start at that tail light and work your way towards the vehicle. If the light has a ground wire, make sure it has a good clean ground connection, and make sure it is touching metal and not paint. Some lights are grounded by the bolts or screws that attach the light to the frame, so make sure those are clean and sol

  • Trailer Wiring on 2002 Chrysler Town and Country Lights Quit Working With Taillights On
  • When you turn on the headlights the running lights place an additional amperage draw on the system to illuminate the trailer lights. I would start by checking the vehicle side of the converter, trailer not hooked up, with a circuit tester, item # 3808 if needed, and make sure all of the circuits going into the converter box are working properly. Then check the trailer connector and make sure all of the functions on that side are working properly. Do this with the taillights on and off. If the ve

  • Since your trailer is working correctly with another vehicle the problem most likely lies in the wiring of the Grand Caravan. Turn the tail lights on and use a circuit tester, item # 3808 if needed, to check the trailer connector. If the taillight circuit is not working, you will need to follow the wiring back into the vehicle until you find the converter, the black box that the trailer wiring is coming out of. I advise against using vice grips as it will tear up the pins. You could use a smaller claw hammer if available. A very small pry bar (crow bar) could work as well. I suppose you could wedge two spoons under it and pry it out that way. Depending on how tight they are you might bend the spoons. If you had a very flat wrench it might work the same as th

  • It sounds like you may have a loose or bad connection somewhere in the trailer wiring. I would start by checking the ground wires and make sure they have a good contact to metal and are tight and look over the wires to make sure they are in good shape and not damaged. Another ground point you may want to check is where the light brackets connect to the frame of the trailer, sometimes the connection can corrode or rust where the lights bolt to the frame and will cause a bad ground. • The first thing I would do is check to see if there is a jumper wire from the working left side tail light wire going to the right side that is not working and check that wire for voltage. You may find that the tail light jumper is damaged and will need to be repaired. If your trailer wiring has a separate tail light wire going down the right side of the trailer, check that wire for power and then for problem areas. Since you have wired the trailer yourself, it should be easy to locate and fix any ground problems. Start at the front of the trailer and make sure the main ground is attached to a clean metal surface. If there is any rust or paint you will not get a very good ground connection.
