Today on this 2004 Nissan Pathfinder, we will be installing Tow Ready wiring harness part number 118361. We are here in the rear cargo area of the Pathfinder and we are going to go ahead and point out the mounting location for our wiring harness. The ports that we are going to be plugging into are located on the inside of the vehicle here, behind the interior panels on both the driver and passenger side. The plugs we are looking for are basically behind the taillights themselves. So to gain access to those, we are going to need to remove a few things. We are first going to need to remove the rear threshold piece here at the rear cargo section of the vehicle. As you can see, we have six Phillip head screws that we are going to need to remove. And then we can just pop that right off with the screws removed. And we will set that off to the side for the time being. 0:53
I am going to start over here on the driver side and go ahead and remove this panel first. We have interior push pins that are holding this panel into place, located right along this rear threshold piece. To release those, we are just going to take a rivet removal tool like the one I have here. If you do not have one of these available, you can use a flat headed screwdriver. You basically want to get behind the panel and release the clips that are in there. You need to remove, not only those but, a couple of the ones on the forward side of the panel as well. And you will notice here on the bottom of the floor there is a tie down point. This may interfere with you pulling the panel back enough to gain access to the ports that we need to. So if that is the case, you want to go ahead and remove this as well. And with the blue plugs removed, you can see the plug in just a little bit easier, located right here. What we want to do is there is a tab just on the top side of the forward connector here. We want to press that in and that is going to allow us to separate the two pieces. 2:07
Next, we want to take our vehicle wiring harness and go ahead and start plugging it inline. Over here on the driver side, we want the ports that contain the yellow and brown wires on them. And again, we are just going to plug them inline. You will notice over here on the driver side as well that we have a white wire with a ring terminal on it. And that is our ground wire. We do need to ground that to a body component here. And if you follow the connector, just to the inboard side here, there is a ground screw located right here. We can go ahead and remove that screw and head our ground wire to there. And after we are finished attaching the converter box, we can go ahead and reinstall the blue plugs. Finally over here on the driver side, we want to go ahead and take our converter box, which you can see we have double sided tape on the back of, and go ahead and inhere it to the inside. And from there we can go ahead and put the panel back on on the driver side. What we want is to make sure we have our yellow and green wires, that are going to be going over to the passenger side connectors, out underneath the panel as well as the 4-pole itself. 3:53
Okay, the 4-pole end we are just going to leave over here on the driver side for the time being. We are going to take the other connector on our wiring harness and go ahead and route it across the threshold section here, back behind the passenger side panel where we are going to make our connection. We are just going to repeat the procedure that we had used on the diver side to remove the interior panel. What you are likely going to find on the passenger side is that the interior panel is not going to remove as easy and that is because of this compartment that is built in to the underside of the floor here. It makes it very difficult to get that panel back. What I will note is that there is a hole, just on the inside of the panel here, that is going to give us access to the plug that we are looking to gain access to. So to make the connection of the harness a little bit easier, what we are going to do is remove the rear taillight and pull our connection plugs out that way. And you can see here, with the taillight removed we can find our connector right here. So what I am going to do again is go ahead and take my harness, feed it through the opening on the interior and back out by the taillight here. And now we can just make our connection out here. 5:23
Then we just go ahead and feed our connectors back inside. Push our grommet back in and then put our taillight back into place. And then come back inside the vehicle and go ahead and reassemble our passenger side panel. And then we can put our rear threshold piece back on as well. We just want to make sure we keep the yellow and green wire from being pinched when we put the rear threshold piece back on. We can go ahead and pull our carpeting back into place here. And our 4-pole is going to stay stored over here on the driver side. We can pull it out of the rear cargo door when we want to go ahead and use it. The weatherstripping here will keep that from being pinched when we do go ahead and close the cargo door on it. From there, our installation is complete. And that will conclude the installation of Tow Ready wiring harness part number 118361 on a 2004 Nissan Pathfinder.

Etrailer.com is a working example of service excellence. The web site is clear, precise, and easy to navigate. They have set a standard with their level of communication. I looked for the part I needed in town but was told it would have to be ordered and take seven business days to arrive (to the store). I tried several other places before giving up. I placed my order with etrailer on Monday and it arrived (to my house) on Thursday. I installed it and was hooking up my utility trailer within an hour. It is a factory quality part and the instruction video (on the site) was extremely helpful. I will definitely do business with this service oriented Company again. Thank you for making this a wonderful transaction!! I am 100% SATISFIED!!!! Charlie27567

Product took 15 minutes to install while having a chat with my grandson. Piece of cake. Now what I'm really excited about. Locating and ordering parts on this web site has been an experience that all web sites should attempt to achieve. It has been the most enjoyable and informative process. Keep up the great communications. Excellent!17009

After studying the instructions I decided to have hitchs and more install the harness. They said I had purchased the best{same as they stock]. They couldn't beleive the price I paid, said they pay almost the same. any way 20 bucks was what they charged me and it was worth that to have installed. I beleive E-Trailer is the place to purchase your items. Thanks for the good sevice also.13519

Trailer harness I am very pleased with the quality of the products sold by etrailer.com. I have purchased several items an have not had a problem with any of them. The most recent purchase was a trailer plug for a pathfinder (bit of an odd ball one to find) and etrailer.com was the lowest price out of the limited retailers that even carried what I needed. The harness was shipped to me very quickly and I can not say enough good things about this retailer. Thank you once again etrailer.com we will do business again soon I am sure.4568

Glad I didn't have to cut wire After I watched the video installation, I bought this harness for my 99 Pathfinder. I installed it in less than 20 minutes, including finding the tools and putting them back up. Just like the previous poster said, the best way to access the plug is to take out the light and work outside the sheet metal; my hands barely fit up inside the square access panel, but it went just like the video. Thanks for a great product, fast shipping, and excellent support through this website.2114

Nice clean install This is a snap to install. The wires are a nice and heavy gauge and the picture on the order page shows you right where the plug is. I installed and ran everything internally and the Pathfinder just pops apart back there. You can feel the plug for the tail lights on the inside but you'll still have to remove the tail lights like in the picture to actually work the plug. Once it's done you don't even know anything has changed. The plug and wire store nicely in the hidden storage compartment under the carpet. I was a little worried that the rear door would pinch or crimp the wires when in use but there is enough gap and insulation around the door that you can't even tell that the back door was closed on it.423
