The modulite bypasses the expensive electrical components in the vehicle by drawing power for the lights on the trailer directly from the vehicle battery.

Simple Do-It-Yourself Instructions on Every Package

Can be used with 5-pole, 6-pole or 7-pole adapters.
Installation: Connection points are located behind the vehicle taillights. The wire run to the batter is routed underneath the vehicle through an access hole. The 4-pole trailer connector will be stowed inside the cargo area.
Tech Tip: It is always a good idea to apply a small amount of grease to all electrical connections to help prevent corrosion.

Warning:

Overloading circuit can cause fires. Do not exceed lower of towing manufacturer rating or:

Max. stop/turn light: (4 amps)
Max. tail lights: (4 amps)

Worked well but the positive wire going to the battery needs to be several feet longer for the 98 Jeep Cherokee Kit. I had to run it on the inside of the vehicle to have enough wire and still barely had enough. Had to remove several interior trim panels in the process.
