Today on this 2011 Mazda CX-7, we will be installing wiring harness part number 118249. We are in the rear cargo area of the CX-7 and we are going to go ahead and locate the tow package port that we are going to be plugging our wiring harness into. The port is located behind the passenger side interior panel, basically directly behind the taillight assembly. There is an access door here that we can remove to expose this port. If you look right here, taped to the main wiring harness lead, this open ended port is our tow package port. The 4-pole end of the wiring harness is intended to go inside the vehicle. So we will need to get it routed down below the threshold piece here so that it can store in the storage compartment here. 0:44
So the next thing we want to do is go ahead and take and remove the complete cargo flooring here. If you look over here to the left side, you can see we have a storage compartment. We are going to want to go ahead and remove that as well. There are two Philips head screws at the bottom of the storage compartment that are holding it into place. We will also want to do that for the driver side storage compartment as well. Next we will move on to the rear threshold piece. And if you look on the front facing, there are two push pin fasteners that are holding it into place there, one on the driver side and one on the passenger side as well. To release them, you actually need to remove the center section. And just take a flat head screw driver and you can see this center section just pops out. And from there, you can go ahead and remove the fastener. There are also retaining clips on the top side of the rear threshold piece. Gently rock the threshold back and forth until you hear them release. And we can just set that off to the side. 1:46
Again, we have another push pin fastener here, at the inboard edge. And then we also need to remove the tie-down hook that is located here. And there is also a third push pin fastener located right here at the bottom. And then finally we just need to release the end board side clips holding the interior panel into place. Those are located right along this facing here. With that one clip release, that should be enough for us to pull the panel back and get our harness down below the interior panel. So from there, I am next going to take the harness. Go ahead and plug it into our port here. And then we can take the 4-pole end, route it underneath the interior panel and back out into this area here. And then finally for the wiring harness, on the back of the modulite box here we have some double sided tape. So we want to go ahead and adhere it to the inside of the vehicle. And there is a flat facing, which is kind of hard to see, right back in this area here that will provide a nice secure point for us to go ahead and adhere the box to. 2:58
OK, with the box adhered, we are going to take the provided zip tie and go ahead and just tie up the excess wires here. And then from there, we can just start reinstalling our interior. Once it is reinstalled, we can go ahead and show you how we are going to use the harness. With our interior reinstalled, we are going to go ahead and show you how to use the harness. Again, we have it stored underneath here. So we can just lift our cargo door up, pull our harness out, bring it out the rear cargo door here and go ahead and attach to the trailer. You do not have to worry about the harness being pinched. The weather stripping here at the bottom will prevent that from happening. And that is all there is to it. That will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 118249 on a 2011 Mazda CX-7.

Installation was easy, and video was very helpful. This product is exactly designed for the vehicle! When purchasing, make sure of two things - check to make sure you had the empty connector on the passenger side, and make sure your trailer doesn't have a significant amperage draw on the lights. 12711

I bought both the hidden hitch and the wireing package. Both pieces fit perfectly. The best part was the installation videos on your website. So much more helpful than the paper directions! I had both the hitch and wiring installed in about an hour and half12502

ABSOLUTELY GREAT I was dreading doing the wiring on my CX-7 after putting the hitch on. I took the access panel off for my right taillight and there was a connector (since my CX-7 had the electric driver's seat) so I just plugged it in and I was done. A 2 minute job. Doesn't get much better than that.1202
