Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Video Transcript for Trailer Hitch Installation - 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Today we are going to install part number 11325 from Curt. And we are going to install this on a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The first step involved is to go ahead and lower the exhaust. We also just added a strap to keep the exhaust from coming down too far, and if we have to we can actually lower this a little easier with the strap. Also, we sprayed down the rubber hangers with some WD-40 to help loosen them up a little bit. On the last one here we are just going to take out this bolt here. What you want to do is spray this down pretty good with WD-40 and let it soak a little bit, because these bolts that sit out underneath the vehicle are prone to freezing up.

Our next step will be to go ahead and install the hitch up above the exhaust heat shield here and up alongside the frame. Actually I think it is going to be a little bit easier just to take down the heat shield and put it back up when we are done. So that is what we are going to do. This is optional but I figure it will be worth the effort for a little bit extra access to tighten bolts down. There you go. And again, we will put these up when we are done.

Now with the exhaust shield down you can see the holes more easily exposed. There is one here and one right here. It would be a good idea to take a moment and spray them down with some lubricant just to clean them out and make sure the threads go in easy. We already sprayed them down so we will just try and give it a run-in by fingers. All right, you want to do the same thing for both sides. At this point we want to put the hitch up. You might need an extra hand. Just work it around the exhaust system and make sure the tow loop on the vehicle is behind the hitch bar. This is where you need an extra set of hands to hold it up on one side. Again, you just want to get them started. You do not have to tighten them up, just enough to hold the hitch in place.

All right, once you get one side in position, what you want to do is take a moment and put your hardware for the tow loop on the tow loop and through and then raise the hitch into position with the bolt coming through. All right, then we can install the rest of the hardware for our tow loop. Now if you make sure everything is where you want it, we will go ahead and snug down the bolts. At this point, we can go ahead and give the bolts a final torque. We can go ahead and put our heat shields back into place. All right, next we can go ahead and slip our exhaust back in. All right, and there you have our install of part number 11325 from Curt on a 2006 Hyundai Sonata.

... I installed this hitch on a 2007 Sonota (4 cyl.) today. Had to use a jack to 'force' the second side high enough so the last two holes would align. The tow hook seemed to keep it too low from aligning easily. Also had to lower the exhuast (three bolts) and remove the heat shield (four nuts) above it to get enough room to torque the two bolts on that side. Wiring was fairly simple. The photo in the instuctions for trimming the factory underbody panel was helpful and accurate. Looking forward to using it now.1597

Worth the extra $22 Installed on my '06 Sonata (2.4L I4) with single exhaust. Needed to remove 2 exhaust hangers, drop muffler and remove the heat shield to install two bolts on passenger side. On driver side, the plastic cover was removed and required minor trimming (as detailed in the instructions) Hitch required some 'springing' to get the bolts in, but basically everything lined up well. No hitch pin or clip was included, although the description claims it is. I believe this hitch is superior to the H.H. and D.T. because it utilizes all fours holes in the frame for mounting, vs. just two holes for the others.1083

Nice quality hitch. I bought this hitch over the two cheaper ones as in general you get what you pay for. This is the case with Curt Hitches. It installed easily. Everything lined up excellent, all bolts fit and were supplied as was the draw bar. Took about 45 minutes to install due to plastic piece on the car.179

I watched the install video for the hitch and wiring harness, so when I started I know exactly what I was doing. Fit pretty much as explained after a little adjustment to the tow loop (guess it got smacked a little when car was taken of hauler) and had to use a floor jack to get last side of hitch up to frame rail and the attaching points. All in all it took about an hour to install and another 15 minutes for the wiring harnessl hook-ups. I should have ordered the cap to cover the 1 1/4" opening though.29845

I recommend providing a longer 3/8"-16x1 3/4" carriage bolt for this installation. The only way I was able to install the .250 spacer through the tow loop to the trailer hitch was to purchase a 2 1/2" carriage bolt at the local hardware store which allowed greater flexability to install the hex bolts into the frame rail. After hitch installation, I cut off any additional bolt length after the hitch was installed. I would rate this installation easy to moderate.19456

  • Difficulty Threading Bolts with Curt Hitch part # 11325 on a 2006 Hyundai Sonata
  • I looked at the instructions and all the bolts are the same for Curt hitch part # 11325. If you had mismatched bolts, the others would not have gone in right either. I spoke with one of our installers who has put one of these on a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. Sometimes weldnuts need to be cleaned, it can be spatter from when the frame was welded together or it could be paint or corrosion. Clean threads out well, you can use a wire brush and some brake cleaner. Make sure you start the bolts so they ar
