Video Transcript for Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack Installation - 2014 Jeep Compass
Today on our 2014 Jeep Compass, we'll be test fitting the Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack System, using Part Numbers Y00409, Y00124, Y00699, and Y00634. With our roof rack assembled according to the instructions, we'll begin our test fit by opening both front doors. We'll grab our front bar and place it onto the front part of our roof. To make sure that our bar is in the right position, we need to measure 16" from the leading edge of the windshield to the closest point of the foot pack. We'll do this on both sides to ensure that our feet are in line with each other. We'll make sure that the clamps go around the roof line of our vehicle, and then we can use the thumb screw inside the foot pack to tighten it down and then close the lever. We'll do this on both sides to ensure that our bar is fully secure. We'll open our rear doors, grab our rear bar, and place it onto the rear part of our roof. And to make sure this in the correct location, we need to measure 32" from the center of the front bar to the center of the rear bar.
We'll do this measurement on both sides to ensure that our feet are in line with each other and that our bars are parallel. Once we have that in place, we can then repeat the same tightening process that we used for our front bar. And just like that, we're all loaded up and ready to go. That's going to complete today's test fit for the Yakima Roof Rack System, using Part Numbers Y00409, Y00124, Y00699, and Y00634 on our 2014 Jeep Compass. .
We carry many roof rack and kayak carrier options for your 2012 Ford Focus. The roof rack that I would recommend is the Yakima Q Tower roof rack that includes two 58 inch crossbars, # Y00409, the Q5 Q Clips, # Y00605, the Q83 Q Clips, # Y00683, and the Q Tower Feet, # Y00124. This will provide you with two crossbars to mount your kayak or kayak carrier to.
I have attached a link to all of the roof rack options that will fit your vehicle for you to check out.

You are correct that the discontinued Rola Roof Rack # 59765 was a fit for your 2013 Hyundai Santa Fe with panoramic sunroof. The other Rola rack you referenced, # 59790, is not a fit for your 2013 Santa Fe.
Our contact at Rola advised that they have a replacement for the discontinued rack, part # 59779, which will fit the Santa Fe with a naked roof.
We do also have other options for you and these will vary depending on which specific version of the Santa Fe you have; Hyundai offered view full answer...
When equipment is installed on the roof of a vehicle, wind noise will occur. It is unavoidable, but you can do certain things to minimize the noise. The round bars used with the Yakima rack system you mentioned can be quieted to some degree by using a fairing like part # Y07049. Keep in mind, the fairing will help streamline the rack itself, but whatever is placed on the crossbars like a cargo basket, box or ski rack will cause further turbulence and therefore noise. Keep in mind that view full answer...
The easiest solution would be to assemble a roof rack using the following parts from Yakima:
58 Inch Long Round Crossbars, part # Y00409
Yakima 1A Raingutter Towers, part # Y00101
Once the crossbars are in place, the Thule Flat Top Ski and Snowboard Carrier you already have will attach directly to the crossbars. When used on a Wrangler Hard Top, the drip rails that the roof rack towers attach to have a limited carrying capacity. Yakima recommends carrying skis or snowboards only, view full answer...
We have a few different roof rack options for your 2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited. Two roof racks that I recommend looking at is the Yakima round bar roof rack or the Thule square bar roof rack systems for hardtops. It appears that your Jeep has a hardtop in the photo you provided.
The Yakima roof rack consists of the following:
58 inch round crossbars # Y00409
Yakima 1A Raingutter Towers # Y00101
The Thule roof rack consists of the following:
58 inch square crossbars # THLB58

The crossbar spread for the Yakima Q Tower roof rack on your 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan is 32 inches. For a complete Q Tower roof rack for your vehicle, you will need the 58 inch round crossbars, # Y00409, the Q Tower Feet, # Y00124, and 2 of the Q57 Q Clips, # Y00657. Your RocketBox 16 cargo box requires a crossbar spread of 30 inches to 36 inches, so this roof rack will work well for you.
The crossbar spread for the Thule Rapid Traverse roof rack is shorter at 27-1/2 inches, so it will view full answer...
You can carry an extension ladder on your 2013 Scion xB with the Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack, but there are a few factors you will want to take into consideration. Once this roof rack is installed, you will have a crossbar spread of 45 inches. The crossbar spread is the distance from the center of the front crossbar to the center of the rear crossbar.
The most important factor to consider is the weight of the ladder. The Yakima Q-Tower crossbars have a weight capacity of 165 lbs, however, view full answer...
I used our Fit Guide to determine which cross bars will work for your 2010 Toyota Prius. I found that the 50 inch Thule Loadbars, part # THLB50, will fit your 2010 Toyota Prius, if you do not have a glass roof. If there is a glass roof, you will need to go with the 58 inch Yakima Crossbars. Also, the 48 inch Yakima Crossbars, part # Y00408, will not fit your 2010 Toyota Prius.
If your vehicle does not have the glass roof, and you decide to use the Thule Loadbars, part # THLB50, you will view full answer...
The longest crossbars we have that will fit the Buick Enclave are in a Yakima roof rack # Y00409 for the 58 inch long bars and # Y00138 for the RailGrab feet. But you could use longer bars # Y00410 for 66 inch long bars. Just watch your head getting in and out of the vehicle!
Then you could use 2 of the Yakima EvenKeel kayak carrier, # Y04052. The 66 inch long bars should be plenty long enough for this set up.
Be sure to consult the vehicle owners manual and/or Buick for the roof view full answer...
There are many different ways to attach your suitcase to the roof rack on your 2009 Ford Taurus X sel, but you will have to have crossbars that run perpendicular to the side rails. If you do not have crossbars, then I recommend getting the Yakima RailGrab Roof Rack. This roof rack uses the RailGrab Towers, # Y00138, that attach to the side rails on your roof and hold the round crossbars, # Y00409. This is also our most economical roof rack system designed for your vehicle.

The Yakima roof rack components that you referenced, parts # Y00409, # Y00702, # Y00606 and # Y00124, make up a complete rack system that fits the naked roof on your 2013 Dodge Dart. The crossbars in this system, part # Y00409, are 58-inches in length. Installation of this system on your vehicle is shown in the linked video.
Crossbars that are 48-inches will not be long enough for your vehicle. The shortest crossbars that will work on your Dart are the 53-inch size that are part of the view full answer...
You definitely have a lot of options that are substantially less than what your husband was quoted to have a quality roof rack for your 2013 Kia Soul with a naked roof.
The first roof rack system I would recommend would be the Thule Square Load Bar System # THLB50. These square bars can hold just about any roof top accessory on the market and are made in the USA, and are constructed of galvanized steel. I have attached a brief video of this system on a 2013 Kia Soul.

The ability to carry a canoe and a kayak on the roof of a 2008 Honda Odyssey is going to depend on two factors. It will depend on the weight capacity of the roof and the size of the canoe and kayak.
Most aftermarket roof racks, like the Yakima Q Tower or RailGrab Roof Racks for the Honda Odyssey have a weight capacity ranging from 150 lbs to 165 lbs, however the weight capacity of the vehicle roof is typically lower. I recommend checking your owners manual to verify the actual weight view full answer...
For your 2014 Kia Sorento LX with naked roof and without the Vista Roof feature you can use any of the roof rack systems shown on the link provided. Options include good basic racks like the cost-effective Yakima round bar system consisting of parts # Y00409, Y00699, Y00124 and ultra-quiet aerodynamic-type racks such as the Whispbar Flush Bar system made of parts # WB-S7 and # WB-K467.
Generally round bar racks will offer the best compatibility with a range of different kayak carriers view full answer...
Because the rain gutters on the Wrangler Unlimited aren't very strong, Yakima states that a roof rack constructed of their # Y00101 Towers and the # Y00409 58 inch crossbars cannot handle the weight of anything other than a ski/snowboard carrier like the # Y03081 PowderHound, which can handle 4 pairs of skis or 2 snowboards. A larger size is also available, part # Y03082 which can handle up to 6 pairs of skis or 4 boards. A cargo box would be too heavy, and would likely allow enough air view full answer...
The roof rack system I recommend for your 2013 Dodge Durango is the Yakima system which has a few components. Since you said you have the crossbars you can certainly order just the parts that would complete the roof rack system. First, since you said you have crossbars, to make sure they would work with the balance of the roof rack, you will want to measure your crossbars. For your Durango it requires the crossbars to be 58 inches long. If your crossbars are not the right length I recommend view full answer...
I spoke with my Yakima representative, who tells me that they recommend the longer 58 inch crossbar and that a 48 inch bar hasn't been tested and therefore they don't recommend using bars that short.
I've provided an install photo showing the 58 inch bar installed. As you can see, there's not much overhang. I doubt the 48 inch bar would be long enough. I don't believe you'd be able to use those shorter bars on a 2014 Focus.
I wish I had better news for you.

As long at the crossbars you use aren't wider than the widest part of the vehicle, which could be a safety problem, you could certainly use the 58 inch crossbars instead of the 48 inch ones. According to my research, the 2009 Optima is about 71 inches wide at it's widest point. Using a 58 inch crossbar would be just fine. The rack capacity is 100 lbs, but keep in mind you might be limited by the actual capacity of the roof, if it's less. Your owner's manual or Kia dealer should be able view full answer...
We offer one roof rack for a 2014 Ford Transit Connect. It is designed to be used on the factory side rails that run front to back.
If you have the side rails, The roof rack we carry is the Yakima RailGrab. This includes 58 inch round crossbars and the RailGrab Towers that attach to side rails. You would need to order part # Y00409, and part # Y00138 for this system.
For carrying kayaks I recommend the Yakima BigStack Kayak carrier System, part # Y04041. This is a universal carrier view full answer...
The roof rack we offer that is confirmed as a fit for the 2014 Dodge CV Tradesman, is the Yakima Q Tower Roof Rack. To order this roof rack you will need part # Y00409, part # Y00657, and part # Y00124. I have attached an installation video for this roof rack you can check out. The vehicle may be different but the installation would be similar.
The roof rack you referenced is not a fit for the 2014 Tradesman.

We have a few options for crossbars for a 2013 Ford Flex with factory side rails that run front to back. I have included a link to them for you. Since you came from a Yakima product the Yakima rack that fits is comprised of 58 inch crossbars, # Y00409, and RailGrab towers, # Y00138, that you referenced. I have included a link showing a typical installation on a similar vehicle.

I spoke with my contact at Yakima and he stated that the RailGrabs, # Y00138, will fit the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Altitude Edition with flush rails. You will also need crossbars # Y00408. And finally, you will need Claws with Pin Adapters, # Y8880201, to install the RailGrabs to the flush rails. My contact stated that in this adapter and for your Jeep you would not need the pin part of the adapter, just the upper part. view full answer...
I checked with Yakima and for a 2013 Subaru Outback Wagon with factory side rails that run front to back you will need to use the RailGrabs, # Y00138, with the small claws. You need to have 48 inch long crossbars (or longer but 48 inches is the recommended length), # Y00408. If the bars you have are shorter then you will need new bars. I have included a link to the instructions and a link to a video showing a typical installation on a similar vehicle. view full answer...
I checked with Yakima and as long as your 2012 Toyota Tacoma is a 4 door double cab model and you have the factory raised side rails on the truck, see attached photo, the Yakima RailGrab Towers, # Y00138, will work for you. You will need to use the small claws for installation on the side rails.
You would need to add a set of 58 inch cross bars, # Y00409, to complete the system and the maximum allowable weight load is 100 lbs for the 2012 Toyota Tacoma 4 door double cab with factory view full answer...
Yes, you would need a Yakima Roof Rack for 2010 GMC Acadia, part # Y00409, Y00138. This will give you a set of cross bars that will mount onto your current roof rails that run from front to back.

For your 2010 Ford Escape Limited I recommend a Rhino-rack system, # RRVA126B-2 and # RRSX001. The Aero bars can be fitted with load stops, like # S602 (sold in a 2-pack), and ladder slides, # SEGLK2B (sold with 2 for each bar), to help secure your ladder and make it easier to load and unload. view full answer...
Based on my research, you will want to use the medium claws to attach the RailGrab towers to the side rails on your 2009 Subaru Outback. If the small claws are currently on the towers, then that would explain why they are not making good contact with your side rails. I recommend using the medium claws to see how they fit.
It does not matter if you tighten the silver allen bolts first or the black allen bolts. If it is easier for you to tighten the towers to the side rails before you view full answer...
Yes, the Yakima RailGrab Towers for Flat and Raised Side Rails, item # Y00138, will work on the factory rack on your 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara. Along with the RailGrab towers you will need the Round 48 inch CrossBars for Yakima Roof Rack System, item # Y00408, to complete the system.

Based on the picture you sent of the roof rack on your 2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara it looks like you have bars that are very similar to Thule Rapid Aero or AeroBlade bars or Whispbars. We do have several roof mount bike racks that will fit these bars.
For roof mounted bike racks, there are basically 2 styles: those that require removing the front wheel and those that do not. Out of all the options (which I have linked individually below) I recommend the Yakima FrontLoader # Y02103 if you view full answer...
The top part of the Yakima RailGrab, # Y00138, tower, where the bar slides through, is 4-1/4 inches. This is the part that covers up the bar. The height from the top part the covers the bar down to where it grabs the rail is 2-1/4 inches. And the overall width at the underneath part that holds the bar is 3-1/8 inches. Thank you for submitting the photo of your Grand Cherokee roof line and flush side rails.
My contact at Yakima confirmed that there is one roof rack option for your 2012 Grand Cherokee Altitude. The rack that will work with your flush side rails is the Q-Tower System, which can be seen using the link provided.

For your situation, I would recommend using the Yakima BigStack Roof Mounted Kayak Carrier, # Y04041. This carrier can support up to 2 kayaks and will mount directly to the factory crossbars on your 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. This carrier includes tie down straps to secure both kayaks to the roof rack as well as 2 sets of bow and stern tie downs for each kayak.

I went out to the warehouse and pulled some Yakima RailGrabs, # Y00138, to measure the area that covers the crossbars for you. I got a measurement of 4-1/2 inches where the bar will be covered by the RailGrab and either end for a total of 8-1/2 inches.
If your intended application cannot straddle the RailGrabs, longer bars would not help because the space between the 2 RailGrabs will not change, just the amount that is coming out the other end away from the vehicle. view full answer...
The Yakima RailGrabs towers, # Y00138, are a fit for the raised side rails on your 2014 Subaru Forester. The Yakima RailGrab Towers # Y00138 that you referenced comes with a long arm that can possibly fit around your tubes on your 2011 GMC Sierra in the picture. Through the following process I found that the maximum diameter that the RailGrab Towers will fit is just under 2-1/2 inches.

For your 2011 Jeep Liberty, there are shorter roof rack options than the Yakima Roof Rack # Y00138 you referenced. I recommend the Yakima Whispbar Roof Rack # WB-S17 that comes with the Factory Side Rail Fit Kit # WB-K328. The length of these crossbars are 52-3/4 inches with usable crossbar space of 51-1/4 inches. This rack, along with the one you mentioned, are compatible with vehicles that come with factory-installed rails that run front to back.

Great first experience dealing with you guys! Shipped fast, and was a faster install. You gave me the right parts and it went together in a flash.
Will definitely be doing business with you all again.
Free delivery that showed up in 3 days!!! Can't beat it. The crossbars with the Control Towers and LandingPad 9 fit perfectly on my Honda Element. Had them installed in about 30 mins. Don't have my cargo box yet and wanted to test strength, so I had my 110lb wife standing on them with no issues (yes, the car was parked). Plan to take a long camping trip next week with a cargo box on top...wife will be in the vehicle:-)
Do you have a video to see how it looks while you install that rail track roof device.

The only reason I am not giving it an excellent rating is the considerable wind noise that occurs. While we had our luggage carrier atop our car it seemingly imperceptible, however after driving around for a week while on vacation with simply the bars breaking the wind it was quite loud. With that being said they were a breeze to install, aside from having to use allen tool tighten down the fittings. I later discovered that a wratcheting screwdriver with the correct bit size provided for much faster installation and removal. I would definitely recommend for purchase.

A great company to do business with, and lots of merchandise in stock. I orderd a roof rack for my truck on Tuesday morning and it was on the porch when I returned from work on Thursday. I will deffinitely order more from etrailer.com
I ordered the Yakima Roof System for my Honda Element. I had amazingly fast delivery. Product exactly as advertised and the cost was lower than most other dealers. etrailer went the extra mile to get me my order as fast as possible (I didn't ask for quick delivery they just went ahead and took the initiative) and kept me well informed about its progress. I'd do business with them again in a heartbeat.

Etrailer is great with price and service. They upgraded my shipping for free and they are excellent with follow up emails to make sure I'm satisfied. As for the product, I am surprised with the amount of wind noise with the round Yakima bars. I previously had Barrecrafters on my Land Cruiser and didn't notice noise with them. If I knew before I would have upgraded to one of the Aero bars.

everything was great, got a day earlier than expected, fit fine, not to hard to install, I would recommend a helper the first time you are trying to get all the adjustments correct, 3 hands are needed at times. I worry a little about the rubber rain seal not working properly, has not been rained on yet. Using it to haul a kayak. Great price compared to local truck accessory store.

Thank you for the quick shipment of my new Yakima Q tower roof rack for my 2007 F150 King Ranch. Following the simple instructions it went together easily and works and looks great. The follow up after purchase has been great from etrailer and I felt like if there had been a problem they would have been there to help me through it.

We ordered the Yakima RailGrab Towers and Cross Bar set for our Taurus X to hold 2 kayaks and it was perfect! The instructions were clear, even added some humor which was welcome. They were shipped with the exact timeframe promised which was good as we needed them before our Memorial Day camping trip. Thank you. We will recommend to others.

Roof rack kit worked perfectly. I tried to find out what kit I needed from the Yakima website but their fit my car function would not load. I was relieved to see that etrailer had their own kit to fit my car. I didn't have to worry that I ordered incompatible parts. Installation took less than an hour and the rack works great.
Just follow the directions and everything will workout. Took me 35 to 40 minutes but I thought I knew what I was doing without directions. Follow the measurements for our vehicle and it works perfect, just remember to order the air deflector to eliminate the wind noise. Always great service and delivery was very fast.

Clear concise instructions, easy to follow. Installed onto my 2004 Honda Pilot. No hiccups; the hardest part was reading my old tape measure in order to get things fasten down symmetrically. I highly recommend this product. Thank you Yakima and thank you etrailer.
etrailer shipped my order very quickly and the product arrived in condition. The system was relatively easy to install. You must take your time and measure multiple times for correct placement and tightening.
