Today on our 2014 Jeep Patriot, we'll be test fitting the Thule Crossroads roof rack system, using part numbers TH450 and THLB50. Now we're already gone ahead and assembled our cross bars, so we'll begin by placing our front cross bar onto the factory-raised side rails. We'll make sure that each of the two feet is directly over the factory-raised side rales. There's an arrow on each foot, indicating where it needs to be sitting over the rail. We'll then take a measurement. We'll measure from a fixed point on the rale back.
We'll want to make sure that this measurement is the same on both sides of the vehicle, as this makes sure that the bar is perpendicular with the factory-raised side rails, making it the safest for operation. We can then use the included tool within each foot to make sure that the rubber-coated steel strap is underneath and tightened down. With our front cross bar secured, we're now ready to mount the rear cross bar. We'll place it on top of the factory-raised side rails, again making sure that the arrows are directly over the factory-raised side rails. We'll now do another measurement.
This time we'll measure from the center of the front cross bar back. This is what's referred to as the cross bar spread. Now depending on your accessory, this measurement can change on this vehicle. We'll again use the included tool within each foot, tightening them down to the factory-raised side rails, securing our bar to the vehicle. With our rear bar secure, our roof rack system is on our Patriotand we're ready to load our accessories.
And that completes our test fit of the Thule Crossroads roof rack system using part numbers TH450 and THLB50, on our 2014 Jeep Patriot.

- My wife and I just bought a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe that has the factory rails that run front to back. The limit of those is 75 pounds just like on yours, and I remember thinking, wow, that is not very much.
Adding cross bars will not increase the capacity of the rails even if the cross bars themselves might be able to carry more weight. Even if this is the case, you will still be limited to the 75 pounds.
