Today we have a 2005 Toyota Sienna with factory raised side rails, and we are going to be test fitting a roof rack from Rhino-Rack, part number sxbs8. We already have our crossbar assemblies put together, so were ready to begin mounting them on the vehicle. Since this roof rack system is designed to attach to our factory raised side rails, there are no specific set of measurements that we need to use. However, you may want to check with the instructions of whatever accessories you are going to be using to see if you need to setup for certain crossbar spread. First we are going to set our crossbar assembly on top of our side rails, and set our position. Since we dont have any specific measurements we need to use we do need to make sure that the front cross bar runs perpendicular with our side rails.
So to do that we are going to measure from the end of the clamp to the seem at the front of our side rail, make sure this measurement is even on both sides of the vehicle. Well also check the overhang of our crossbars to make sure it is even on both the driver and the passengers side. Once weve done that we can begin tightening the system down, well take the included allen key and tighten the allen bolt that is inside our crossbar. As we tighten this bolt the crossbars are going to clamp onto our side rails, and well also simultaneously lock the cross bar into position. Well move back and forth between the drivers side and the passengers side to make sure we tighten down the rest of them evenly.
This will also help prevent the assembly from shifting causing us to loose our position. Once we have our front crossbar tightened, we can move to the rear and install the rear assembly. We need to make sure that the rear crossbar assembly is running parallel with the front assembly. To do this we are going to measure from the center of the front bar to the center of the rear bar and make sure this measurement is the same on both sides of the vehicle. Once we have made sure our rear assembly is running parallel with the front well check our overhang again, and were ready to tighten down the rear crossbar assembly.
We will repeat the same tightening procedure that we use for the front. Once we have both of the cross bar assemblies tightened down the last step will be to install our locking end caps. The locking caps will not only help seal wind noise out of the ends of the bars, but they also prevent easy access to the bolt that we used to tighten the system down, and that does it for our Rhino-Rack roof rack system on our 2005 Toyota Sienna with factory raised side rails, part number sxbs8. This kit is also available with silver bars part number sxbs8-silv. .
