Today on this 2008 Chrysler Aspen we will be installing a Rhino Rack roof rack part number SXB4-SILV. We already have our crossbar assemblies put together so now we are ready to mount them up on our vehicle. We want to check the overhang of the crossbar on both the driver side and passenger side to make sure it is even. We need to ensure that the front crossbar is running perpendicular to our factory raised side rails. To do this we will measure from the end of the clamp to the front plastic shroud on our side rails and make sure this measurement is even on both sides. Once we have the front crossbar assembly in place we can go ahead and begin tightening it down. We will move back and forth from the passenger side to the drivers side so we tighten down the roof rack system evenly and we do not lose our position.
Now that we have the front crossbar assembly tightened down we can start with the rear. Once we have our overhang set we need to ensure that the rear bar runs parallel with the front bar. To do this we are going to measure our crossbar spread. That is from the center of the front bar to the center of the rear bar. We are going to make sure this is the same on both sides. Since this system is designed to attach to a factory raised side rail there is no set crossbar spread that we need to use. However you may want to check the instructions of whatever accessories you will be using to see if they have a required crossbar spread. With our rear crossbar assembly in place we can go ahead and begin tightening it down. We will use the same procedure for tightening that we used in the front. With both of our crossbar assemblies tightened down the last step will be to install our locking endcaps.
Now that we are done we will give you some measurements about our new height clearance. From the top of our factory side rail to the top of the new crossbar we have added about 2 inches of height. From the top of our roof to the top of our new crossbar assembly we have added about 3 inches of height. And that does it for our Rhino Rack roof rack installation on our 2008 Chrysler Aspen with factory raised side rails.
