This semi-custom SportRack roof rack easily installs on your vehicle's bare roof so you can carry extra cargo to your next destination. Adjustable, rotating footpads combine with an easy-to-use numbering system to make the rack conform to your roof for a good fit.

A unique numbering system is inscribed on the crossbars to aid in installation. This system corresponds to numbers noted in the easy-to-read application guide. First, find the number indicated for your car, and then slide the roof-rack feet along the crossbars until they line up with the appropriate number for your application. Tighten the feet in place with the included Allen wrench.

Refer to the application guide to find specific measurements that allow you to properly position the rack on your roof. To begin installing the roof rack on your vehicle, open the passenger's- and driver's-side doors. Place the front crossbar first, and make sure that the screws that hold the clamps in the roof-rack feet are loose before positioning the feet on your roof.

Before attaching the clamps to the door jambs and tightening them down, you need to make sure that the feet and pads are oriented correctly. The bottom of each foot can be rotated to better fit the slope of your roof. Make sure that the feet are sitting flush against the roof.

Once the feet are properly positioned, attach the clamps to the door jambs and tighten via the screws in the feet. After the front crossbar is positioned, review the instructions for the measurements needed to place the rear crossbar and repeat the same process for that crossbar.

Once everything is tightened down, place the locking covers over the feet to deter theft of the rack.

Video Transcript for SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs Review

Today we'll be reviewing the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack System for Naked Roofs. This economically priced removable roof rack system is going to clamp to your vehicle's naked roof. It's got a square bar design with a steel construction so it's going to accommodate a variety of accessories such as bike racks, ski carriers and cargo baskets just to name a few. You're going to get two crossbars. This is going to support your accessories. You're also going to get four feet, two per crossbar. The feet are going to have the nice coated clamp so it's not going to damage your vehicle.

You're also going to have the pad on the bottom of the foot to protect the finish that goes around the roof line of your vehicle. Each foot pack is going to have a lockable cover, so if we remove the cover it's going to expose the Allen bolt that secures the foot pack to the vehicle. Once you have that installed on your naked roof you place the lockable cover over the Allen bolt. That way nobody can gain access to it to remove the system from your roof, and it's going to come with a set of keys. Another great feature about this roof rack system is how easily adjustable it is. Now in the fit guide you're going to be able to find your particular year, make, and model. It's going to list some numbers that you can set your clamps at to fit your vehicle.

You're going to take the included Allen key, loosen up the Allen bolt, and then you can adjust this as necessary until you get the correct number to line up in this space. In order to install our roof rack system we just need to go ahead and open up our front doors. We'll do this on both sides. We'll place our front bar onto the front part of our roof. Now to ensure that we get this in the correct location you can refer to the fit guide to see the distance that you need from the center of the door jam to the center of the foot pack. All right, with this side in place we'll go over to the driver side and repeat that same process.

Now with our front bar set we can go ahead and remove the locking cover, gaining access to the Allen bolt. Take the included Allen key and tighten it down. This is just going to secure the clamp around the roof line of our vehicle. We'll want to make our way from side to side, tightening it a little bit at a time to get a nice secure fit. With our front bar secured we can go ahead and and reinstall our locking covers. Then we can get ready to put on our rear bar.

Then we can close our doors. As you can see, the clamp that goes around the roof line does not interfere with the shutting of our door. Now we'll place our rear bar onto the rear part of our roof. To make sure we get this bar in the correct position, another measurement needs to be taken. Again, you can find that in the fit guide, measuring from the center of one bar to the center of the other. We'll do it on both sides to ensure that our bars are parallel and that our feet are straight across from each other. All right, with our bars in place we can go ahead and repeat the same tightening process that that we used for our front bar. This system may require the SportRack Short Roof Adapter sold separately with part number SR1116 for shorter roofs or dramatically curved roof lines. It's made from a sturdy steel construction with a black plastic coating that's going to stand up well against rust and harsh UV rays. This roof rack system's going to offer a weight capacity of 130 pounds and the crossbars are going to measure 50" long, by 3/4" wide, by 3/4" tall. That's going to do it for our review of the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs. .

I was skeptical about how this "naked roof" attachment strategy was going to work, but now that I've tried it out I feel OK about it. The rubber is pretty thick, so I haven't seen any scratch marks. Once you get it adjusted for your vehicle it's pretty easy to mount or dismount. The only complaint I have is that the doors "don't close right" when it is attached (at least on my 2008 Honda Fit Sport) -- they get forced slightly down, which probably isn't serious, but it isn't good for them either. This also means the weatherstripping doesn't fully seal, so I hear more wind noise when driving (not counting the noise the bars and bikes add). It hasn't rained on my vehicle while this is attached yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if a little water leaked through too. This is my first rack mount, and all in all I'm satisfied with it. It was a reasonable price, was easy to install, and doesn't feel like it's going to loosen up and fly off. 138909

Hi Jacob, The weatherstrip that is getting folded on your fit is actually a water diverter strip designed to gutter the majority of water away from the main sealing weatherstrip. One is mounted on the door and one is mounted on the body of the car. You will be fine in the wet weather.

comment by: Glen - 08/17/2015

Still working fine though it has caused the weatherstripping water diverter material on my 2008 Fit to sustain some slight damage beginning to break.

This is a great rack. We are very happy with it. The cost is great compared with the popular brands. It mounts so firm I can shake the whole car with it. There is a little wind noise above 60 mph but that is to be expected. There is a discrepancy in the instructions though minor. The pieces that hook into the door area are supposed to be flush with the car, per instructions. This can't happen on a Honda Fit as there is a ridge that prevents it. It is however very safe and secure sticking out a little. Not really a problem but I could see how some people might think they have a problem. 213013

Glen, does the roof rack interfere with the doors at all? Ive heard that on the fit, they get in the way of the weatherstripping and cause the doors to close a little funny. Can you confirm?ThanksJeremy

comment by: Jeremy F - 08/13/2015

Hi Jeremy F., The weatherstrip does indeed touch the roof rack. It does indeed cause a VERY LITTLE pressure on the door. If I pay close attention I can feel the interference but it is so minor as not to hurt the door or weatherstrip. I worked as a mechanic for 30 years at dealerships and have seen this a-lot. Here is a way to look at it. If you are going to leave the rack on all the time it will deform the weatherstrip, you might want to see if the expensive ones have a thinner piece between the roof and weatherstrip. If you are going to take it off after the weekend then this is the rack for you. It will be fine. I know that Thule has just as thick of a piece and does the same thing. Hope this helps.

Took longer than expected (11 days) for the roof rack to show up but once it did I had it installed on my 07 Prius in about a 1/2 an hour . The quality far exceeded my expectations ! Seems to be comprable to a Thule rack at about half the price . Makes a little noise at highway speed but not too bad . I think I'll skip the fairing . Very pleased ! 80114

Can you confirm this rack system will fit a 2009 Chevy Aveo5 hatchback? Thanks.

comment by: Diane - 07/28/2013

I double checked SportRacks fit guide and the SR1002 will fit 2004-2011 Chevy Aveo 5DR.

Patrick B - 7/30/2013

Its been a year since I installed the rack on my Prius. In that time Ive added a Thule Yak Stacker and have hauled 2 kayaks several times with no issues at all . I have also hauled 2x4s 20 miles down the highway with no problem . I left it on my car all winter long and it showed very little effect of having been out in its first NH winter. I m still very pleased and confident that I made a great purchase !

Robert - 05/14/2014

how did you find the fit numbers for the frontback for your prius? I have an 09 and am finding difficulty finding the numbers to set it at

I like the design. One of our cross members did have a significant gouge (straight out of the box) in the plastic casing that wraps the cross member but I didn't have time to return it before I needed to use it. It is pretty sturdy system overall but the clamp's design does not force each clamp to pinch as much as it should. As the clamps are tightened, they begin to stretch and slip up off of the car's overhead structure. The design should have an additional adjustment on each end that cantilevers the top of the clamp to pull out on the top which would force the bottom to pivot/ push into the car more. I was worried during our travel that it would be jolted and then slip off of its install point. So the install would require the installer to place the assembly, tighten each opposing cantilever adjustment while simultaneously and incrementally tightening the other adjustment crew for snug fit in the vertical direction. 144184

This rack is made by Thule and the quality is solid and the price about 1/2 of a Thule. The directions could be better - the bolt under the lock needs to be backed off all the way and the mount giggle a little to get it to conform to the roof lines on the Prius. Other than that, very easy to install with the included allen wrench. The rack feels like it's welded to the roof - I can grab it and shake the car. etrailer has EXCELLENT sales support and follow through - really top of the line! 91879

The rack is still rock solid and working great. However once the rainy season started I noticed that rain was entering through depressions in the weatherstripping where weatherstripping is in contact with the rack support. Eventually, the weatherstripping was somewhat damaged by the rack.

Ron M - 01/25/2015

Thank you for the feedback Ron! We are glad to hear you have enjoyed the racks. We offer 10 different models, one of which will typically fit nearly any vehicle, so the instructions are left somewhat vague, as the racks are not vehicle specific like the Thule systems. Each vehicle on which a SportRack is being installed may be slightly different as they cover many models. Thanks!

i called etrailer looking to buy my first set of kayak racks for my chevy malibu, i was looking for a affordable, tough set of racks that where easy to install and i also had some specific questions reguarding the rack. i was able to talk to Melinda E. a sales rep at etrailer, she was fantastic. she was tons of help and answered all of my questions, she helped me get just what i was looking for. i have delt with lots of companies but none have went as smooth as the transaction with melinda E. at etrailor. she let me know when the item shiped via email, also when it arrived. wich only took 2 days! and free shipping! the rack is perfect and just what i was looking for, i was able to install it in about 35 minutes, it also had great instructions. dont go buy a $500+ dolar rack, this rack is wonderfuly built and will save you lots of money for you to spend on your adventures!! i cant recomend this rack enough. if you want to order anything, ask for Melinda E. extention 332 she will be a ton of help, hope this reveiw helps! 179881

I ordered a SportRack for my 2011 Nissan Versa, the one the sales lady said would fit both the 4-door and 5-door Nissan Versas. The specified setting of 21 for the forward rack was inadequate to span the roof at the specified position (15 inches). I made it work by setting that rack at 24. The rear rack could not be made to span the roof at the specified distance of 28 inches aft of the leading edge of the rear door. Even at the maximum setting on the transverse bar and with the hook adjustment screws at their maximum extension there was not enough reach for the anchoring hooks to grasp the edge of the door opening. Only by moving the rear rack so far forward that it was no longer a useful roof rack system could I get the rear rack to attach. Money down the drain. If you need a roof rack, then find a local installer and forget about mail order purchases. With a local installer your money stays in your pocket until the job is done right. 188716

Thank you for taking the time to post a review. It sounds like there may have been some confusion on the measurement and rack placement. We do have a tech support line to offer assistance on installations should you need any expert advice. Thanks again!

comment by: will - 07/26/2013

SportRack does not offer their bars outside of the kits. Even if they did, the measurement system may be off and you would not be able to use the measurements in the instructions. The systems we have where you could elect to use longer bars come from Thule and Yakima, in particular their square and round bar systems respectively.

The rack is well made and I have no problem with the quality of the manufacture or appearance. Etrailer's service was absolutely perfect and I will gladly use them again in the future. The downside is the fit is "generic" as a made for my car model adapter set for my Thule racks is no longer produced. Because of the "fits many models", the side plates for the rack hold my door slightly ajar and the wind noise that results from the top of the door not closing fully is really bad. I've tried moving it forwards and back but no bueno. IF you need a rack and no specific kit is available I'd say get this but I may have to take it off as the fit and resulting noise is wearing me out. 141611

No water leaks. Yes there is a little displacement of the outer seal but there is an inner seal also. You will get some wind noise from the aerodynamics but I dont mind

This roof rack seems legit. Putting it on my car was fairly easy. Just a little tweaking needed. I haven't really noticed any major increase in wind noise, only a little and I was really listening for it. I got this to haul a 10' kayak around but I just received the rack yesterday and put it on today and haven't had a chance to carry my kayak yet. I don't foresee a problem. The rack is solid on the car and looks good. I'm very pleased with it. Etrailer had the best price and shipping was quick. I'm happy. 211681

When carrying your kayak, did you need another mounting device or were you able to use just these two bars? -Thanks

The SportRack is a great buy. When I took it out of the box, it was in perfect condition; no dinks or tears on the "rubber" coatings and painted metal parts. It looks and works like a mini van Thule rack I bought 30 years ago. (Except the price was only a third of what a Thule would have cost me.) The suggested width numbers between right and left mounting brackets were off, but not important. Just make sure the numbers are the same on both sides when fitting to your roof. It took me about 15 minutes to properly measure an mount the 1st time. After that, it will take about 5 minutes. Excellent. 238094

This is a solid rack and reasonably priced. It has a solid "locked in" feel on my roof. Nitpicking a little, the rubber pads have protrusions that fit through holes in the feet, but they don't fit well or stay in place. I suppose it doesn't matter after the rack is tightened in place because they aren't going any where. Also the inside part of the foot doesn't actually touch my roof ('09 Hyundai Sonata). The video and installation instructions are complete and detailed. Overall I'd recommend it as a good choice, I use mine for a small kayak and it works great. 183031

I purchased the SportRack for my 2009 Hyundai Sonata. The installation instructions were very clear, it only took about 35 minutes to install and adjust. The quality is very good. You can spend more if you want a big name but if you want to spent less and get the job done the SportRack can't be beat. 222261

Hello Pete. I too have a 2009 Sonata and am considering this rack. Have you had any problems with fitment or security in all wet her cinditions since you installed? Also has it caused any problems with the door or weather striping? Thanks, Kent.

Do not fit well especially with the heat. The rubber heats up and does not stay put. Actually one of the rubber pieces on the rack that connect to the bar popped out where it's rather cheaply pieced together. These connectors actually damaged the plastic like resin or coating the car has on the upper part of my doors when I clamped them down. They don't hold well at all and I spent the entire trip worrying I was going to lose everything. Any undue pressure to like using tie downs and they pop right out of place. GEEZ 91864

The quality of the racks is great and exceeded my expectations at a very reasonable price. The racks were shipped quickly and arrived in perfect condition. My only problem was that the numbers to set the bar at for my car didn't work, but with a little trial and error I figured it out, even with that the installation only took 45 mins. I,m very happy with the racks, and they are the lowest price I could find for a high quality rack system anywhere. 235992

This works great you just really have to make sure the rack is on there very tight to where you can't pull it off with your hands. Also you have to strap it down so that it does not make the bars flex or they will loosen and cause problems. 145810

I recommended you guys on Facebook. I searched for an install video on Youtube that was helpful too. Thanks for offering this product. It's easy to put on and seems really solid. I'm looking forward to putting my kayak on and heading out. The only criticism is that I should have considered in advance is the wind noise; but that's not the problem of the rack really. The rails are boxy and not the most aerodynamic, but aftermarket roof racks are noisier. Follow the directions and your rack should be unboxed and mounted within 30 minutes. 220345

I like the design and looks but there are three problems I've seen so far. Starting off, I'm sure I put it together correctly but water still seemed to get between my doors into the car, also the manual for the number is wrong for my car(Honda accord 07). Finally, my car door doesn't shut properly but does shut, overall I still think its awesome, just keep this in consideration, thanks. 223955

Good day, if water is penetrating the weather stripping of the doors, you can tighten the clamps a bit more than normal, or adjust the feet so they are about 1/4 closer together across the bar, this should eliminate any leaking. Thank you

comment by: Shan - 07/15/2013

I double checked with SportRacks fit listings and the SR1002 is the correct rack for a 2010 Nissan Sentra. There are a about 8 different configurations of these kits. Differences include bar lengths, clip shape, base design, and foot pad shape/angle. No other parts are needed as they are complete kits. Specifically, on those two kits, all those differences apply save for base design.

It came exactly as advertised and was easy to install. I was worried as I had a Prius with a sunroof and solar panel. No problem. Though I had to adjust from the recommended settings, it fit firmly and snuggly and easily holds my kayaks. 84808

Received my order within 4 days of ordering it, awesome!!! Mounted on a naked roof 2009 Chevy Malibu and took only a couple try's to get it adjusted correctly, nice fit and well built. Definitely worth the money and would recommend it. 246135

Recently ordered the roof rack for my 2013 Toyota Camry, followed the directions, fit perfectly. Shipping was fast, and the staff at E Trailer made sure I knew exactly where I was in the process. Highly Recommend purchasing from them. 141083

My vehicle is older and I had not been able to find a rack to fit. The web page walked me right to the proper rack and it was a dream to install, even for someone who no one would mistake for a mechanic. 158517

So far so good. I have installed the rack already. I use it for my 16ft. ladder and it works great so far. We will see how it holds up when I get my 28 ft ladder. That it what I bought it for. 96739

  • What Fairing Options Are Available for the SportRack Roof Rack for 2005 Honda Accord SR1002
  • The SportRack Roof Rack for the 2005 Honda Accord, part # SR1002, fits your 4-door sedan. SportRack does not offer fairings for their roof rack systems. I checked with my contact at Thule and they advised that the SportRack square crossbars have dimensions that make them incompatible with the hardware supplied with Thule fairings. Just to be absolutely certain I did test-fit a Thule fairing on the SportRack crossbar. As Thule advised, and by a very small margin, the hardware will not

  • Roof Rack Recommendation for a 2009 Toyota Yaris Hatchback
  • I have a roof rack option that is confirmed as a fit for your 2009 Toyota Yaris 2-door hatchback, but it is not the Sportrack that you mentioned. Instead you would want the part numbers # INB117, # INSU-K5, # INJK, and # INK770 which are a confirmed fit for your vehicle. The crossbar spread would end up being 28 inches measured on center.

  • The SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack # SR1002 will mount to the naked roof of your 2010 Honda Civic such that the crossbar spread (measured from the center of one bar to the center of the other) is 25-inches. This rack uses square crossbars that offer broad compatibility with a wide range of roof-top accessories, including cargo boxes, bike racks, kayak carriers, etc. You will want to keep the 25-inch crossbar spread in mind as you consider cargo boxes since they will indicate a

  • Will SportRack # SR1002 Roof Rack Fit 2012 Honda Civic EX with Sunroof
  • The fits of the various roof rack options offered for the 2012 Honda Civic depend on the nature of the roof on the vehicle. If your Civic is a 4-door with a naked roof (meaning no sort of roof siderails or other roof hardware) then the SportRack # SR1002 Roof Rack will fit. The rack's feet clamp to your roof and door jambs with included clips. A video is linked for your reference. This roof rack offers a 130-lb weight capacity but you can check your Civic owner's manual for any guidance

  • Will Thule Outrigger Bar and Hullavator Work With SportRack # SR1002 for Kayak Loading
  • I spoke with my contact at Thule, and they confirmed that the Thule Outrigger II, part # TH847, is compatible with the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack for Naked Roofs, part # SR1002, you referenced. You must have 2 inches of the load bar extending out beyond the roof rack support foot to be able to use the outrigger bar. If your Prius has a very short roof, or if it is very curved, I would recommend the short roof adapter, like part # SR1116.

  • Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for a 2006 Toyota Corolla
  • For an economically priced roof rack for your 2006 Toyota Corolla to start off with I would recommend the Rhino Rack Roof Rack that consists of the parts # DS118B and # DK004 over the # SR1002 because this is a custom fit rack designed to fit your vehicle, whereas the # SR1002 is a semi-custom fit rack that will fit but will be more of a challenge. I guarantee you will be happier with the Rhino Rack. For a kayak carrier designed to carry 2 kayaks the Yakima Stacker part # Y04036 that

All of the roof rack systems for the 4-door Corolla with naked roof, and there are many available, can be seen on the link provided. You should check out the 2010 Toyota Prius Roof Rack that uses the following part numbers: Thule Square Load Bars # THLB50 Thule Traverse Roof-Rack Foot Pack # TH480 Thule Roof-Rack Fit Kit # THKIT1566 My contact at Thule confirmed that this would work for your vehicle.

  • To carry a kayak on the roof of your 2009 Nissan Sentra you would start with a roof rack like # SR1002. Then you would add a kayak carrier like # SR5512. The saddles will protect the kayak from damage from the roof rack. The less expensive option is to use a foam block set up like # SR5525. You place the foam blocks on your bare roof then grab a buddy to set the kayak on them. Next use the include blue straps to go over the kayak, Open the doors on the vehicle and run the straps through

  • Roof Rack and Kayak Carrier Recommendation for 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
  • Yes, the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack, # SR1002, is one of the roof rack options available for your 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx with a bare roof. As for the 2007 Mazda 6, the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack to fit that vehicle is part # SR1010. The # SR1002 was not designed nor has been tested to fit on the Mazda 6. Now for a kayak carrier that will work with the SportRack Semi-Custom Roof Rack, # SR1002. A couple of my favorites are the SportRack J-Style Kayak Carrier, # SR5511,

Trunk mount carriers won't work on your vehicle and the hitches offered for your car are only light-duty Class I types that can handle only two bikes maximum, so a roof rack it is! The crossbar spread without an adapter will only be about 13-1/2 to 18 inches between the bars (depending on the rack, see link). I have attached a link to all three of these options. My recommendation is to go with the Thule AeroBlade roof rack system because it will be the quietest option.
