Expert Answers about Surco Products

  • Comparing the Curt 24x60 Cargo Carrier # C18132 and the Surco 24x60 Cargo Carrier # 52018F
  • There are not many differences between the Curt Cargo Carrier, # C18132, and the Surco Cargo Carrier, # 52018F. Both cargo carriers have similar designs including the folding shank, steel mesh platform and raised sides. They also have the same weight capacity and dimensions. The main differences between these cargo carriers really comes down to aesthetics. The Curt carrier has rounded rails where the Surco carrier has square rails. Also, the Surco carrier does not include a pin and clip. Cur

  • Will Bikes have to be Removed from Surco RV Ladder Mount Bike Rack to Open Rear Door on Camper
  • Most likely, yes, you would have to remove the bikes before opening the rear door on the camper. If the ladder is near the door the bikes are going to be wider than the ladder and could overhang the ladder on either side. If they are wide enough they could block part of the door. The best way to tell if there will be an issue is to measure the total height of the tallest bike, dived by 2, then measure horizontally from the center of the ladder over towards the door, half the height of the bi

  • Size/Capacity of OEM Hitch and Cargo Carrier Recommendations for 2012 GMC Terrain
  • The hitch should have a sticker somewhere on it that lists its capacities. With the capacity and the size of the receiver opening, you can figure out which class the receiver is. I have linked you to an FAQ article that fully explains how to determine the size/class of your hitch receiver. For instance, if the receiver opening is 2 x 2 inches, it would be a Class III with a capacity of between 3500 lbs and 6000 towing and 300-600 lbs tongue weight. Tongue weight is the maximum amount of weigh

  • Fit of Surco Folding Cargo Carrier # 52018F on 2013 Subaru Impreza
  • In order to determine if your Impreza has sufficient clearance for the carrier to install and fold up against the rear of the vehicle, you will need to measure the distance between the hitch pin hole and the closest portion of the rear bumper (see photo). The Surco Folding Cargo Carrier measures 5 inches from the hitch pin hole in the shanks to the closest portion of the basket when it is folded. If the measurement you took is less than 5 inches, the carrier will fit just fine and would be c

  • Will Tow Ready Lock # 63232 and Rola Cargo Net # 7330 Fit On Surco Cargo Carrier # 52018F
  • The Tow Ready Anti-Rattle Device With Lock # 63232 will work with the Surco Folding Cargo Carrier # 52018F as both are intended to be used with a 2-inch trailer hitch. I have included a link to a video review of this item. The Rola Cargo Carrier Stretch Net # 7330 that you referenced will also fit on the Surco cargo carrier. I have provided a link to a video review of this product as well. As a heads up, you will need more than 5 inches of clearance from the hitch pin hole of your receiver

  • The Surco Mounting Adapter for Safari Rack, part # SPT400, consists of a set of 8 steel u-bolts, each with 2 hex nuts, and 4 aluminum adapter blocks. On the included photo I have indicated the measurements of these parts, both overall sizes and center-to-center spacing. The adapter blocks have a square opening that measures 3/4 x 3/4 inches. • Weight Capacity and Mounting Configuration of Surco Ladder Mount 2 Bike Rack Part # SP501BR
  • The Surco RV Ladder Mounted Bike Rack you referenced attaches to the uprights of the ladder, not the rungs. As long as your uprights have a round profile, the ladder bike rack will fit regardless of the profile of the rungs. I have edited a photo for you that shows this. As long as the ladder is not right at the edge of the 5th wheel, the fact that the ladder is on the drivers side should present no problem. The rack itself has a weight capacity of 75 lbs, which might work for you if you can

  • Will The Surco Folding Cargo Carrier # 52018F Fit On A 2007 Audi Q7
  • The light package, # 52014, will only be necessary if your cargo will cover the tail lights on your vehicle. The Surco Cargo Carrier, # 52018F, is a wide carrier at 60 inches wide. If you will be carrying large items that will sit tall enough to block your tail lights, then you will need the light package. You can also check your local laws and regulations to see if the additional lights are required when using a cargo carrier. The carrier itself will not block your tail lights nor will s

  • Which Surco Safari 5.0 Roof Rack for 2004 Chevy Tahoe
  • The correct Surco roof basket for your Tahoe will depend on how your roof is currently equipped. If you have the raised side rails that run from the front to the rear of the roof, the # SPS5084-1101, which does not require crossbars would be ideal. If your Tahoe is a Z71 model with the roof that has the flush-mounted tracks that run from front to back, the # SPS5084-Y400 rack you mentioned would be the correct choice once the Yakima crossbars, # Y00408 and # Y00138 are installed.

  • Overall Height and Bar Diameter of RV Ladder # SP502L
  • The overall height from where the ladder mounts on the bottom to the top curved portion that would be above the RV roof is 84-1/2 inches. So if you subtract the height of that curved part and measured from where it mounts on top to where it mounts on the bottom you would get 76-1/2 inches. The bar diameter is approximately 1 inch.

  • Can you Attach a Ball Mount to the End of a Cargo Carrier to Tow a Boat Trailer
  • I do have an option that will allow you to carry a cargo carrier and tow your 2,500 lb boat, however, a ball mount cannot attach to the end of a cargo carrier to tow a trailer. Instead, check out the Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount, # D210. This ball mount will allow you to tow your trailer with the lower ball mount and carry your cargo carrier using the receiver. The towing capacity of this ball mount is 7,500 lbs and the tongue weight capacity is 750 lbs. The receiver weight capacity is 350 l

  • How Do the Bikes Secure to the Surco 2 Bike Carrier for Van and RV Ladders
  • On the Surco bike rack, # SP501BR, the bikes rest in the cradles and are strapped in with rubber straps. The bikes need to be mounted vertically. The down tube on the bike frame (below the seat) is where the bikes will mount to the cradles. You can click on the small pictures on the product page and then run your mouse cursor over them and they will zoom in. This should allow you to see them better.

  • Preventing Bike Movement on the Topline RV Ladder Mount Bike Rack
  • Part of the problem might be that you are loading the bikes horizontally instead of vertically, Loading the bikes vertically will reduce or eliminate how much they overhang to the side of the 5th wheel. If little or no part of the bikes are sticking off to the side and susceptible to wind, they are less likely to move. Also, make sure the straps are as tight as you can get them. The tighter the straps are the less likely the bikes are to move. If possible, add another strap like # 753-2030-03

  • Is there a Bike Rack Available that Will Not Block the License Plate
  • That really depends on where the license plate is located. Since you were looking at the Surco bike rack, # SP501BR, I assume you have a van or RV that has a ladder with the license plate in close proximity. What I recommend is to use the bike rack you want to use (trailers and RVs can only be equipped with certain racks, see link) and relocate the license plate to an area of the vehicle, trailer, or RV that is more visible. For a license plate bracket, if you need one that has a light y

  • Will the OSI Swinging Bike Rack # 51953 Clear Rear Liftgate of 2011 Honda Odyssey
  • The OSI 4 Bike Swinging Rack, part # 51953 swings so that the bikes will be 42 inches away from the centerline of the vehicle, which would be plenty of clearance so that you could open the rear hatch. Because the top plate of the OSI rack secures all 4 bikes, the top tube diameter of all the bikes needs to be the same or the bikes will not be secured well to the rack. Softride makes a nice rack, the Dura Parallelogram part # SR26247, that I believe you would like better. Instead of swinging

  • Recommended Cargo Carrier for 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe with Class II Receiver

The carrier you choose will need to have a shank whose hitch pin hole measurement to the closest portion of the cargo basket is longer than the distance from the hitch pin hole to rear bumper measurement. Measure from the hitch pin hole in the receiver rearward to the farthest rearward part of your rear bumper. If this distance is less than the 6-1/4 inch shank length of the Cargo Carrier, the carrier would work just fine for you. The Rola Cargo Carrier, part # 59502 is a great looking carrier that measures 22x55. • Towing Trailer and Carrying Bikes with Motorhome

This would leave a capacity for the carrier of 155 lbs, which is still pretty respectable. You were right on the money.
