  • Installation of Coupler Repair Kit # CP02-050
  • The repair kit installs as follows: The latch assembly bolt is slid through the coupler. Slip the large spring over the bolt. The under jaw comes next, followed by the small spring washer and the lock nut. Take a look at the provided diagram, which shows the order of assembly.

  • Trailer Jack Assembly is Stuck in the Extended Postion
  • A coworker of mine had the same problem that you are having with his jack assembly that would not retract once fully extended. The solution he came up with was to manually spin the inner tube of the jack to get it to free up. Try spinning the inner tube of the jack counter clockwise, then clockwise to see if you can get it to retract again. If that does not work, then look for more serious issues such as stripped gears or the threaded shaft that the inner tube extends and retracts on...

  • Quality Heavy Duty Hand Winches Needed to Safely Raise and Lower Baseball Backstop Netting
  • As long as each winch would not be required to lift over 600 lbs, I recommend going with the Dutton-Lainson Hand Winch, # DL14125, which is capable of lifting up to 600 lbs and is a very economical choice. This winch will accept up to 61 feet of 5/32 cable and you could use a 50 foot length of 3/16 inch diameter cable, # DL24044. If you are required to use 3/8 inch diameter cable, I would recommend the Dutton-Lainson 3,200 lb Hand Winch, # DL15440, which should have more than the...

  • What does Ratchet Style Two-Way Mean on Shelby 1,400 lbs. Single Speed Winch, # 5405,
  • On the Shelby 1,400 lbs. Single Speed Winch, # 5405, the ratchet style two-way means that you will be able to ratchet the load in or let it out by ratcheting the handle, so when letting a load out the weight of the load will not just totally let go. The rated capacity on the Shelby 1,400 lbs. Single Speed Winch, # 5405, is 1,400 lbs. and the gear ratio is 4.1 to 1. A winch you might look at is the Dutton-Lainson Brake Winch Self-Locking, # DL15721, it has a rated capacity of 2,500...

  • How To Determine What Size Ball I Need For A Trailer Coupler That Does Not Have Size Listed
  • I looked up the Shelby 5133 coupler and it said it uses a 2 inch hitch ball. You will also need to get the right ball shank diameter and ball shank length. The ball mount will determine the diameter and length. If you measure the hole size diameter in your ball mount, that will give you the ball shank diameter, there is a 3/4 inch, 1 inch and 1-1/4 inches diameter available. You will need to measure the thickness of the ball mount to determine the ball shank length. Short length...

  • What Size Hitch Ball is Needed for a 17 foot Boston Whaler Montauk on a Factory Trailer
  • I did a bit of research and found that if your trailer is the original trailer from Boston Whaler, it should have a 2 inch coupler on it. This would mean that you need to select a 2 inch hitch ball that is rated for the total weight of your trailer and all contents fully loaded, fueled and ready to tow. I attached a link to all of the hitch balls that we stock for you to select from. My personal choice would be the Convert-A-Ball Interchangeable Ball Set, # 903B, which is stainless steel...

  • Choosing a Lightweight Winch that is Rated to Pull 1200 lbs
  • Our lightweight winches will range between approximately 7 and 8 lbs. A couple winches that I would recommend taking a look at are the Shelby 1,200 lb winch, # 5404, and the Dutton-Lainson 1,400 lb winch, # DL15303. The Dutton-Lainson winch is the heavier winch between the two at approximately 8 lbs and comes with Dutton-Lainsons zinc TUFFPLATE finish for corrosion protection. This winch has a 4.4:1 gear ratio and a 1,400 lb weight capacity. The Shelby winch is slightly lighter...

  • Installing 2 Inch Strap On My Shelby Trailer Winch # 5408
  • I contacted our representative at Shelby about installing a strap with the Shelby Trailer Winch, part # 5408. She informed me that any 2 inch strap, like the Dutton-Lainson Strap # DL24260, will work with the Shelby Winch # 5408. The strap should attach to holes on the reel, that are near the hub of the winch on each side of the reel. The Shelby winch representative sent a diagram of the winch, I have marked where the bolt holes are where the strap bolt should attach.

  • Where are Trailer VINs Typically On a Trailer for Registering
  • Usually commercial trailer manufacturers will indicate the unique vehicle identification number (VIN) on the same plaque that carries their brand name, model number information and the trailer specifications. The model number of the trailer is not the same as the VIN number; the same model number may be used on multiple trailers but a VIN number is unique and individual to each one produced. If you cannot find the VIN on the trailer tongue you can check for plaques on other parts of...

  • How to Tell Year of Manufacture of a Trailer By Looking at VIN

  • Would a Boat Trailer VIN Ever Be Only 6 Digits Long
  • The VIN of a trailer should be much longer than 6 numbers/letters. I attached a picture that shows how to decode a VIN for you to check out to give you a better idea on what they typically look like. It sounds like you may have found just the serial number for the trailer. I would recommend you keep looking. Otherwise you might need to apply for a new VIN with your local DOT if you can't find it.

  • Replacement Strap for the Shelby 3,200 lbs. Two-Speed Winch # 5480 and # 5481
  • The # 5480 and # 5481 Shelby 3,200 lbs. Two-Speed Winches utilize a cable and the manufacturer does not recommend the use of a strap with these winches. The drum width is 2-3/4 inches and the mounting pattern is the same for both winches. The main difference between the 2 winches is that the 5481 model has a hand brake that allows you to control the load when in free wheel mode. The correct replacement cable for these winches would be one like the Hand Winch Cable with Safety Hook, #...

  • Using VIN to Determine Length of 2007 TNT Utility Trailer
  • There is a way to decode a trailer VIN. The first three digits denote the code for the manufacturer. The next two digits denote the model of the trailer. The next two digits are the length in feet of the trailer, which in your case is 16 feet, followed by the number of axles the trailer has, which is two in your case. The next digit is a check digit, but the following digit is the year the trailer was manufactured, which in your case is 2007. For more information, you can call your trailer...

  • Bolt Through Trailer Jack Recommendations for a Trailer with Single Bolt Through Mount
  • The Shelby Bolt-On Trailer Jack, # 5874A8, is designed to bolt around the trailer frame with the included mounting hardware. I posted a photo showing the type of hardware included with this jack. The jack tube itself does have a weld on plate that is bolted, with a single bolt, to the mounting plate that is used to attach the jack to the trailer frame. If you need a bolt through style jack we have several to choose from. From Fulton we have the Fulton Bolt-Thru Swivel Marine Jack,...

  • Recommend A Winch And Parts Need To Winch A 15 Foot Raft
  • To use the winch you selected, Shelby 1,900 lbs. Single Speed Winch, part # 5408, you would need to use a winch post with mounting plate on top or a different style winch such as a ratchet crank or top-mounted handle winch. When selecting a winch, generally with a boat you want to select a winch that has twice the capacity of the boat. If you were to use rollers on your trailer, you could use a lower capacity winch as you would not be pulling a static load. If you are using wooden bunks...

  • Replacement 2,800 Pound Shelby Hand Winch for a Boat Trailer
  • The Shelby trailer winch # 5470 could be the same one that you have but I checked with Shelby and there are several models of the 5470. This one is the basic model and it is steel. The mounting hardware is not included but you can re-use the old mounting hardware if its in good shape. I do not recommend a cable for marine applications. Instead I recommend a strap because nylon is corrosion resistant. The length you need depends on the distance needed to let the boat out in the water...

  • Shelby Trailer Jack # 5874A8 Stuck in Max Position
  • I have had similar problems with jacks at home where the jack would get stuck and I would have to manually spin the inner tube of the jack to get it to free back up. What I would do is try to spin the inner tube of the jack first counter clockwise, and then clockwise to see if you can get it moving again. That might get it back on track and allow it to work for you. I actually had a similar problem earlier today on a jack I was measuring. After I cranked the jack to its maximum height...

The Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Trailer Winch with Adjustable Handle, 2,000 pounds # FW20000301, or a Dutton Lainson hand winch # DL14825 which has a 2500 pound maximum capacity. • How to Lubricate Trailer Jacks
  • Lubing up jacks typically requires just removing the top cap of the jack and spraying all of the moving parts with a lithium grease and/or spraying the same type of grease up the inner leg of the jack to get all of the moving parts from that angle as well. Some jacks have zerk fittings on them to allow grease to easily be pumped in them. Others like the Shelby jacks have small holes drilled above and below the handle near the top that you could direct the hose of a spray lubricant in.

  • Availability of Side Crank Trailer Jack with Removable Handle
  • Most of our sidewind trailer jacks have handles that can be removed. For example, Bulldog sidewind jacks, like # BD182415, and Pro Series sidewind jacks, like # PS1400960376, are attached by a vertical clevis and pin. Other sidewind jacks, like Fulton F2 # F1413100334, have handles that can be removed by removing the 4 screws on the top and the top cap. There is a roll pin that holds the handle in place and you will need to use a center punch and hammer to tap it out so that you can...

  • How to Locate VIN on Utility Trailer
  • A trailer VIN is usually found on the trailer tongue, near the coupler. If it can't be found there, you'll need to examine the trailer frame closely. The VIN is usually stamped onto a plate that's affixed to the trailer, but it could be stamped into the metal somewhere. If you cannot find the VIN sometimes your State Police can assign a VIN for you. This can vary from state to state, so you'll need to check with your State Police or DOT.

It will hold up to 40 feet of 1/4-inch cable or 31 feet of 2-inch wide strap. The part number for the cable would be # DL24104 and for the strap would be # DL24260.
