As far as measuring the 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern you can measure directly across the wheel from the center of one hole in the wheel to the center of the hole directly across from it. Gently prying the QuickTrim Trailer Hub Cover # QT545C would be the best way to remove it from a wheel. You could use a slot screw driver to do this. You would want to slide the tip of the screwdriver between the cover and the wheel and then use a twisting motion to unseat it from the wheel.

Ideally, you would want the load to be centered side to side on a trailer. Front to back is another issue because its position on the trailer will change the tongue weight. You will want the tongue weight to be 10 to 15 percent of the gross trailer weight. From what I was able to find it looks like the tire size on a stock 1997 Harley Fatboy is a 130/90-16. This makes it about 5-1/8 inches wide. The Low Profile Removable Motorcycle Wheel Chock, # MWCB accepts tires up to 6-1/2 inches wide. In metric tire sizes, that would be a about a 165 but no larger.

If the distance from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the adjacent bolt hole is truly 2-3/4 inches, then you have a 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern. To install the QuickTrim Trailer Hub Cover, part # QT545C, you would want to line up the lug nuts and apply firm pressure with your hand to snap the cover into place. I went out to the warehouse and pulled a Trailer Wheel Lug Nut, # X1023R, and a Quick Trim Chrome Finish Trailer Hub Cover, # QT655C, and tested them together. The lug nut fits in the space but there is about 1 millimeter of a gap between the nut and where it sits in the cover. But the cover would not be able to come off as there is a lip that is more narrow where the cover first meets the nut and you have to snap it on.
