If the grease is not contaminated in any way and is still soft enough to pass through the nozzle of the gun, it should be fine. If it is not easily passing through the nozzle of the grease gun or is contaminated, you should probably replace it. It sounds like you did it the right way this time! To track down this voltage loss, I would recommend a few things. First, make sure that your trailer and vehicle side are properly grounded to clean, bare metal. New Trailer Brakes Pulse In Rhythm with the Left Hand Turn Signal
It sounds like the brake controller is picking up some of the current from the blinkers. Installing a Pulse Preveneter, part # 5501, should remedy the issue. A pulse preventer essentially filters out the fluctuations created by the blinkers so that only the constant signal of having the brake pedal applied will activate the controller.
