Expert Answers about Hollywood Racks

  • Comparison Between Hollywood Racks # HR1400 and Swagman XTC-4 # S64655 Hitch Mounted Bike Racks
  • There are indeed some significant differences between the Hollywood Racks # HR1400 and the Swagman XTC-4, part # S64665. The reviews for the # HR1400 are shown on the product page for the bike rack, which you can see by using the provided link. The rack has been well received by our customers, and the reviews have been overwhelmingly positive. The HR1400 is an extremely versatile rack. It can be tilted away from the vehicle while bikes are upon it to allow easier access to the cargo...

  • How to Stop a Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack from Moving Too Much in the Trailer Hitch
  • Using an anti-rattle hitch and cable lock will add an element of security for the bike and racks but is not going to offer any additional support to reduce movement of the rack. I do have a couple of options for you though. First, you can find some additional support from the use of a stabilization strap such as # 18050. I have linked a video that shows how this strap works. Another option would be an additional anti-rattle device such as # RM-061 for a 2 inch hitch or # 93347 for...

  • Comparing the Hollywood Racks SE4 and Swagman 2+2 Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Racks
  • The Hollywood Racks SE4, # HR1400, and the Swagman 2+2, # S64692, are two comparable bike racks. Like you have already said, the racks can handle 2 or 4 bikes with the last 2 bike section being removable. The SE4 weighs a little less (shipping weight is 82 pounds) when compared to the 2+2 (89 pound shipping weight). For wheel cradles I give the edge to the 2+2. The actual cradles are more secure than the hoops used on the SE4. Both racks have the same 45 pounds per bike capacity so there...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack that Can Hold 16 Inch Tires on a Childs Bike
  • A 16 inch bike is small and the best option as far as a bike rack is going to be a platform style rack like # HR1400 that you have referenced. You will need to add Kids Bike Wheel Hoop Adapters, # HRSW-ADP-2, in order to carry the 16 inch bike in the rack. The adapters will prevent the tires on the bike from going too far into the hoops on the rack. I have linked a video review and the instructions for you for the bike rack. Out of the bike rack options I think this one is the best...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Carrier for Bikes with Carbon Frames
  • Usually owners of bikes with carbon frames shy away from bike carriers that make any contact with the frame such as # HR1400. If you were to clamp the hooks down too tightly it could damage the frames. A carrier that holds the bikes at the tires, such as the Swagman Semi, # S64698-99, is the preferred method of transporting carbon frame bikes. This particular carrier only fits 2 inch trailer hitch receivers. If you have a Class I trailer hitch with 1-1/4 inch receiver I recommend...

  • Cargo Bag and Bike Rack Cover Recommendation for the Hollywood Racks SE2 Bike Rack w/Cargo Carrier
  • The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Platform 2 Bike Rack w/Cargo Carrier # HR1450-85 that you referenced comes with a hitch lock to secure the rack to your vehicle, and then a cable lock to secure the bikes to the rack. For a weather resistant bag you could use for the cargo carrier portion of the carrier the # 59102 would be about right in size for the carrier. It would be about 4 inches wider than the carrier. There is no great way to lock the bag to the carrier though. For a cover...

  • Spare Tire Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2004 Honda CR-V
  • We do have spare tire bike racks that are compatible with your 2004 Honda CR-V, however, according to Hollywod Racks, the SR2 Spare Tire Bike Rack, # HRSR2, will not fit your CR-V. Instead, I recommend looking at either the Thule Spare Me 2 Bike Rack, # TH963PRO, or the Yakima SpareRide 2, # Y02599. Both of these bike racks have been confirmed to fit your CR-V and they can be adjusted to center the bikes with your vehicle since you have an offset spare tire. To determine which bike...

  • Recommended Trailer Hitch and Two Bike Rack for 2009 Nissan Rogue
  • I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III hitch, part # 75606. The hitch uses the more popular 2 inch receiver opening, so you'll have a better selection of bike racks and other hitch mounted accessories to choose from. I've linked to an install video. The number of bike racks compatible with your Rogue are too numerous to mention, but if you click the link, you can see a listing of the top 20 most popular bike racks with Rogue owners. What in my opinion are you two best choices follow. ...

  • Can Rear Doors Open on 2016 Mercedes Sprinter 3500 with Unloaded Hollywood Racks Bike Rack Installed
  • With the bikes removed and the arm uprights folded down on Hollywood Racks bike rack and cargo carrier # HR1450-85 you will be able to open the rear barn doors on your 2016 Mercedes Sprinter. It may also work with the uprights in the up position but it depends on the position of the trailer hitch and how much clearance it can provide.

  • Recommended Carrier for Schwinn Meridian Adult Trike on Toyota Prius
  • All of the hitches for the Toyota Prius are Class I hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers, so as long as you have a Class I trailer hitch you can use Hollywood Racks Sport Rider # HR1000R (for longer wheelbases) or # HR1000 and then add Trike Adapter, # HRTRK-ADP, to carry the trike. This set up is Class I compatible. I have linked instructions for you on the racks and adapter. You will need to stay within the 200 pound tongue weight rating of a class I hitch or the tongue weight rating...

  • Bike & Cargo Carrier Options for Use on Winnebago View 24V Class B+ RV
  • It is generally a better idea to use a hitch receiver to support a heavy load. Lightweight ladder-mount RV bike racks are available for up to 2 bikes, such as the Surco 2 Bike Carrier # SP501BR, but if you can use hitch-mount carriers that place the load on the vehicle frame you are better off. Have a look at the safety sticker on your RV hitch. There should be a tongue weight capacity listed on it. This is important to know since that TW figure is the maximum weight load you can use...

  • Compatibility of Hollywood Racks # HR1450 with ElliptiGO Bike
  • I did some research, and found that ElliptiGo offers a modified version of the Hollywood Racks # HR1450R. The rack features a fork mount at the front wheel hoop that will accommodate the bike once the front wheel is removed. We do not offer the rack, but you could purchase a # HR1450R and add one # HR915 for each ElliptiGo bike you wish to carry, and you'd have the same rack (see photo). The HR1450 would probably not work, as the HR1450R model is specifically designed for wider bikes...

  • Can Rear Doors Be Fully Opened On Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3500 With E-Bike Carrier
  • We have several bike carriers that will handle your two e-bikes. The issue is that none of them will allow you to fully open the doors on your Sprinter with the bikes loaded. The Thule T2 Pro, part # TH9034 would let you open the doors if you do not have bikes loaded and you tilt it away from the back of the vehicle. The weight capacity for the T2 is 100-lbs so you are right at the maximum limit with your e-bikes that weigh 50-lbs each. The carrier itself weighs 50-lbs. Another option...

  • Recommended Trunk Bike Rack for Preventing Scratches on a 2015 Mazda 6
  • Honestly, the best way to prevent scratches or damage to your vehicle's paint is going to get a hitch mounted rack like the Thule Helium # TH9042 and a trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite # 24908. We typically recommend a fresh wash and wax before installing any trunk rack. It is important that the rack be installed securely to reduce bouncing or movement, which causes scratches. But honestly it is the nature of the location of the rack and the elements it encounters while on the road....

  • Anti-Rattle Device Suggestion while using a Towing Bike Rack and Pop Up Camper
  • For use while towing with your pop up camper trailer and hitch mounted towing bike rack, the best option would be to use the Anti-Rattle Device for a 2 inch hitch # 63232. This device will eliminate any additional rattling by pulling the ball mount portion of the hitch to one side. It also provides a secure locking mechanism for your hitch. Please keep in mind that this locking device can only be used on hollow hitch devices, it is also advised to remove this locking mechanism when...

  • Recommended 3-Bike Trunk-Mount Rack for 2007 Honda Odyssey Van
  • For your 2007 Honda Odyssey the trunk-mount bike rack that I suggest is the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top 3 Bike Rack # HRF2-3. This unique carrier features an innovative arched frame design that allows it to work well on vehicles with spoilers. Many otherwise excellent racks cannot be used on such vehicles but the HRF2-3 will avoid any interference with the rear spoiler. If any of the bikes does not have a horizontal top frame tube, such as some women's and alternative design bikes,...

  • Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for 2014 Jeep Cherokee
  • For your 2014 Jeep Cherokee without a hitch the trunk rack options you have that would work best would be the Hollywood Racks Over the Top racks. For the 2 bike version we have the part # HRF2 or the 3 bike version part # HRF2-3. These racks are great for SUV style vehicles like yours that have spoilers and will offer you a very stable bike rack. Unlike most trunk bike racks this one won't put any pressure on the spoiler. If you plan on carrying any womens or alternative framed bikes...

  • Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for Electric Pedego Bikes
  • For an electric bike rack that would easily carry your 2 E-bikes that weight 53 lbs a piece that have fenders you would want the Hollywood Racks Bike Rack part # HR1450E as this rack is specifically designed to work on E-bikes like yours and has a 80 lb per bike capacity. This rack secures bikes to the rack by grabbing the frame so your fenders would not interfere at all. Only issue is that you wouldn't be able to access the rear cargo door of your vehicle with the rack installed....

  • I checked with Hollywood Racks and the spare tire mount bike rack # HRSR2 is not listed as a fit. But never fear, there are other spare tire mount racks that will fit. You can use the Thule Spare Me # TH963PRO. This rack actually costs a little less and with it you also get an integrated cable lock. • Platform-Style Bike Rack Recommendation for a Motorhome Towing a Chevrolet Malibu
  • The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider 2 Bike Rack, # HR1000, that you referenced would be an excellent choice for your Malibu or Grand Cherokee, however, this rack is not rated for use behind a motor home. The back end of a motor home subjects hitch mounted accessories to more jarring and bounce than a passenger vehicle, truck or SUV because the rear end is further away from the rear axle. Because of this, there are only a few bike racks that are compatible with motor homes. We do offer one...

The single carrier you referenced, the Sport Rider Trike Carrier # HR1000R-TRKADP, is ideal for a single trike. This carrier accepts tires up to 3-inches wide and works with trikes with wheelbases up to 74-inches and track widths up to 36-inches (this is the distance between the rear tires' centers). Please see the linked review video. They also...

  • Bike Rack Recommendations for a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro Coupe
  • There are better options available for carrying bikes on your 2011 Camaro. Trunk mount bike racks have been around for a while and are a good, inexpensive option to carry bikes, but like you, many people are weary of using a trunk mount rack because the weight of the bike rack and the bikes is sitting on the trunk and bumper. Bike rack manufacturers test these bike racks and as long as the weight capacity of the bike rack is not exceeded and the bike rack is installed properly, you should...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack to Carry an Adult Trike and Regular Bike at the Same Time
  • The only way to carry a trike is to use a hitch mount bike rack and to carry a trike and regular bike together there is only one rack, # HR1450R-TRKADP2. However, this rack only fits 2 inch trailer hitch receiver openings. There are only Class I hitches with 1-1/4 inch receivers available for your 2011 Toyota Corolla. If you happen to have a different vehicle if you can tell me what it is I can determine if there is a 2 inch hitch available for it.

  • Yes, the Hollywood Racks SE 4 Bike Rack, # HR1400, will fit on your 2012 Honda Odyssey with the Curt Trailer Hitch, # C13068. In the folded position, the closest part of this bike rack will be 6 inches away from the face of the trailer hitch receiver. • What Prevents the Rear Portion of the Hollywood Racks Bike Racks # HR1400 From Getting Stolen
  • The pin that secures the two pieces of the rack together to make it a 4 bike rack actually is threaded so that it there is no movement between the two pieces. In order for someone to steal the back portion of the rack he would have to have the right size wrench to un-thread it. Most bike rack thieves don't run around with sets of wrenches on them so the odds are that your rack wouldn't get stolen like this. Check out the review video I attached for this rack.

  • Recommendations for a 2-Recumbent Bike Carrier For a Rans and a Bacchetta Sprada
  • For your Bacchetta Strada and Rans recumbent bikes, I recommend the Hollywood Racks Sports Rider SE2 Bike Rack # HR1450R. It is a platform-style hitch-mounted bike rack that is made with recumbent bikes in mind. I did some research on your bikes and have found both will fit well within the maximum wheelbase dimensions (74 inches) as well as the maximum weight capacity (45 lbs/bike). This rack can also be folded up when not in use and can be tilted away from the vehicle for easier loading...

  • Trunk Mount Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2006 Honda Pilot
  • The only trunk mount bike carriers that will fit your 2006 Honda Pilot are the Hollywood Racks Over-the-Top rack # HRF2 for 2 bikes or # HRF2-3 for 3 bikes. These racks have an additional upper arm piece that moves the top straps up and over that spoiler so no weight is put on it (since the spoiler is not meant to support weight). • 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for 2010 Honda Odyssey to Give Access to Rear Cargo Area
  • I have a great solution for you, but you have to consider how much the rack will weigh with four bikes loaded on the part # HR1400 when you would go to lower or raise it. It would be quite the physical challenge to pull this off, plus it may not even clear. My favorite bike rack to recommend is the Thule Vertex Swing part # TH9031XT because it can carry up to 4 bikes and can swing out and away from the rear of the vehicle to give you complete access to the rear cargo area with bikes...

  • Bike Rack for a Tadpole Trike for the Back of an RV/Motor Home or Trailer
  • The issue is that there are only certain bike racks that are rated for use on the back of an RV or trailer. I have not seen a trailer hitch mount bike rack that holds a tadpole or delta trike that is also compatible with an RV or trailer. If your RV has a 4 inch to 4-1/2 inch steel bumper that is welded the entire length of the bumper then you might be able to use the Swagman bike rack # S80600. It would be the best and really only option.
