Expert Answers about DeadBolt

  • Trailer Hitch Size on a 2002 Chevy Silverado
  • If you have the factory hitch installed on your vehicle, then it is the 2 inch by 2 inch receiver hitch. If it is an aftermarket hitch on your vehicle then it is most likely a 2 inch receiver hitch. You will need to measure the inside width of the opening on the hitch where the receiver slides in. The measurement should be apparent when you use a ruler or tape measure. Below, links are posted to our 1-1/4 and 2 inch hitch pins and instructions for measuring your hitch.

  • Spare Tire Lock for 2013 Jeep Wrangler
  • If your spare tire has at least 3/4 inches of clearance behind it, and you have an available lug opening that passes through the carrier on the vehicle, the Deadbolt # 4324 would work very well for you. The Master Lock spare tire lock, part # 262DAT would also be an option. The lock prevents access to the head of the nut or bolt that retains the spare tire to the carrier attached to the rear of the vehicle.

  • Does Dead Bolt Trailer Hitch Lock Part # 7683 Fit a Class ll 2-Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
  • Dead Bolt Trailer Hitch Lock Part # 7683 uses a 5/8-inch pin to lock your ball mount or hitch-mounted accessory to your trailer hitch. This is intended for class III and class IV receivers. Typically class II receivers have a 1-1/4-inch opening and use a 1/2-inch diameter hitch pin. Once you confirm your receiver size (please refer to the included article) you can select either a 1/2-inch diameter hitch lock, such as part # 40106 or # 5200 for a 1-1/4-inch receiver, or if a 2-inch receiver

  • Will Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # 40107 Fit a Factory 2 Inch Trailer Hitch on a 2012 Dodge Durango
  • Some factory 2 inch trailer hitches like on HD Chevy/GMC trucks and some import trucks have a larger outside width than regular 2 inch receivers. The span on the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock, # 40107, is 2-5/8 inches. The average outside width of a 2 inch receiver is 2-1/2 inches so this lock would fit flush on the average 2 inch receiver. For the thicker 2 inch OEM hitches you could use # RH5-XL which has a span of 3-5/8 inches.

With these measurements you can check the space available around the outside of the receiver to ensure fit. I have linked a video review of this lock for you.

  • Recommendation for Making the Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount Lockable
  • The best recommendation I can give you would be to get a Curt Lock Set for Adjustable Channel-Style Mounts # C23556. These locks are rated to handle the weight and are lockable to act as a theft-deterrent. Dimensionally the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock # RH5-XL that you referenced might fit to hold the ball mount platform in the Channel Style Adjustable Ballmount # C45900, but since it is not rated to handle the weight it would see in that position I cannot safely recommend you attempt to use

  • Will the DeadBolt Stainless Receiver Lock Fit in the Factory Hitch on Ford and Jeep Vehicles

  • DeadBolt Hitch Lock Replacement Key
  • Not all of the DeadBolt locks will have a key number stamped on them. If your lock does have a key number, it would be stamped into the metal on the face of the lock adjacent to the key slot, as shown in the photo I edited for you. Unfortunately, we cannot obtain replacement keys without knowing the key number. If you do not have the number, you can have a locksmith pick it, or you can use an angle grinder with a cut off wheel to cut the lock off.

  • The Thule Vertex 5 Bike Rack, # TH9030, has a threaded hitch pin hole, so the Deadbolt Hitch Lock, # 7683, will not work with this bike rack. Instead, you will want to use the Thule Snug Tite Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device, # THSTL2. Thule specifically threads the hitch pin holes in their bike racks to fit their hitch pins. The Snug Tite lock will provide both the lock that you are looking for and and anti-rattle feature to keep the bike rack from moving in the trailer hitch receiver.

  • How Theft-Proof is the Deadbolt Trailer Coupler Lock # 28012
  • My Grandpa used to tell me that locks were for keeping honest folks honest. This holds a lot of truth. The lock you mention, part # 28012 would provide what I would call minimal deterrence against theft. If there are two identical boat trailers parked side by side, one using the # 28012 lock, and the other unlocked, the 20812 will do its job and deter the crook from taking your trailer. The DeadBolt 1-1/4 Inch Hitch Lock, part # 40106, that you have referenced is designed for 1-1/4 inch hitches, but there have been some factory 1-1/4 inch hitches that it has not worked on because of the thickness of the steel surrounding the factory hitch receiver opening. What I recommend is to spray in a liberal amount of a penetrate and lubricant like WD-40 or PB Blaster. Let it work for about 15 minutes and then insert the key and try again. It may take a little more force than normal to get it to free up. If it does not work the first time, do not despair. Spray more penetra
