Should the Cut End of the AnchorTrax Cargo Control System be Coated to Protect the Metal
Adding some paint to the cut end of the rails from the AnchorTrax Cargo Control System, # AT3976, would not be a bad idea since it will be exposed to the elements, but the rails are made of aluminum, so rust will not be much of an issue. If I were installing the rails and had to cut one end, I would add some black paint on the end to give it a finished look and to help protect the metal.

Can the AnchorTrax Square Tie-Down Track Be Shortened and Still Be Secure
The overall dimensions of the AnchorTrax system, # AT3576-1, are 72 inches long x 1-1/4 inches wide x 1/2 inch deep. If you are talking about trimming down the length to fit in a specific area, that is permissible. Trimming down the width or depth is not advised and it will not be safe for use. We also have a shorter model, # AT3375. It measures 12 inches long x 1-1/4 inches wide x 1/2 inch deep.

While it is possible to weld aluminum it takes a skilled professional with experience doing so. For that reason, it is not recommended and should be installed with tapered screws and lock nuts. Any time you expose the bare metal there is a chance for oxidation, corrosion, rust. Adding paint and/or otherwise sealing of the area from moisture and the elements will be a tremendous help to keep the bed rust-free.

I spoke with my contact at AnchorTrax and he said that the round tie-down holes on AnchorTrax Square Tie-Down Track with Black Powder Coat Finish, part # AT3876 are spaced at 1 inch apart center to center. On a 6 foot section of track there would be around 72 round tie-down holes. The part # AT3876 does not come with any installation holes drilled into the track.
