Electric Brake Controller on a Ford with a Factory Integrated Brake Controller

Custom Fit Brake Controller

Technical Bulletin

SUBJECT/Summary: A factory installed Trailer Brake Control (TBC) that are in the vehicles listed are not designed to be used on electric over hydraulic brakes.

PROBLEM: The factory installed Trailer Brake Control (TBC) that are in the vehicles listed below, are not designed to be used on electric over hydraulic brakes. If you install an aftermarket trailer brake control, in place of the factory installed TBC, to use a trailer with electric over hydraulic brakes, it will set a fault code on the instrument cluster.

SOLUTION: The only way to remove this code, is to have the TBC turned off by your local Ford dealer. Using the IDS, the Ford Technician should access the Programmable Parameters and then select the Personality/Dynamics. Select the TBC and turn it off. The fault code will now be removed.

NOTE: This process can also be used to turn the TBC back on, in the event that the aftermarket brake control is removed.

Vehicle affected include: 2005-2010 Ford Super Duty, 2009-2010 Ford F-150, and 2009-UP Ford E-series Van
