Honda Accord

We had a big family trip to Wisconsin planned and obviously we need to take all of the stuff needed for a proper family vacation. We have 3 kids and spending 10 hours in a car packed with our luggage did not sound like fun so I purchased the black Thule Sonic XXL. The box worked out great. We were able to get 3 luggage bags, a rubbermaid tub of bike stuff, 10 helmets and 5 life jackets in the box. One of my kids sits in the third row so I needed to be able to open the rear hatch. As you can see in the picture the hatch opens with plenty of clearance on the MDX. With other boxes in the past the hatch would only open half way which is no fun when your kid needs to pee and they are trapped in the back of the car on a long trip. Also in the picture you can see the the inside of our car was clear (except for the important things, kids and ponies). It made the drive much better to not having to dig through and climb over stuff. Last, but not least, the box looks good. Granted, I gussied it up with some etrailer stickers which adds style points. But even without the extra stickers my wife approved, which is a good thing. A very good thing. 96591

The first few times I used this box it was with the Thule Aeroblade roof rack and there was plenty of clearance. On my last road trip I put the box on the MDX factory cross bars and the rear hatch does bump the back of the box. It was not enough to be a huge issue but there is definitely contact. I added a new picture showing the rear hatch all the way open and the box on the factory bars.

Review from a similar Thule Sonic in Roof Box

I needed extra space for our annual trip South for winter; we have a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox a small 4 cylinder SUV, which we like pretty much all the time- until we have to take a lot of clothing and other luggage the 850 miles from Ohio to Florida and back, in December and March. Added to the trip this year was a drive from Florida to Los Angeles, THEN back to Ohio- an additional 4700 miles. I purchased the Thule Sonic XL Medium (Black) cargo box for the LA part of the trip, after a lot of thought and online shopping. It is the perfect size, and fits the Equinox using the factory cross bars. The easy to set clamps are a feature that I thought I would want over more basic systems found in cheaper boxes, and I was impressed at how easily the box is installed using them. The Thule extends from approximately the front edge of the sunroof, to the rear antenna, without interfering with the antenna in any way. I can open the rear hatch fully, and reach into the cargo box standing on the left or right rear door sills, although a small stepladder is very useful for initial packing and unpacking at the end of the trip. During our trip west with the Thule we traveled at speeds up to 80 MPH, most of the time at 70-75, and for two full days went through rain, and had temperature extremes of 90 to a snowy 7 degrees one morning. We had cross winds of about 30 MPH in the Rockies, and had no water leaks, and (even) my wife says she could not hear any wind noise from the box. And... we averaged 27+ MPG and sometimes got almost 28 MPG on flat terrain!! I am very pleased with my purchase of the Thule Sonic XL Medium. The extra money over some other brands was well worth spending, in my mind. And etrailer got it to me as promised- even though I was shocked at the size of the shipment!!! A shipping box, strapped to two pallets that were joined by a 4 X 8!! But it arrived in perfect condition, and 4700 miles later- it is still in perfect condition. Good job Thule and etrailer!! 247344

Toyota RAV4

Review from a similar Thule Sonic in Roof Box

Bought Thule cargo box based on other reviews. Due to centered rear antenna we had to go with smallest box, which still has a lot of capacity. Very happy with purchase. We have taken 2 trips so far, both times box worked well. Have not gotten in any major rainstorms so far so do not know how watertight it might be. Did find a dead bee in the case so it is not that airtight. We have purchased some waterproof bags for our next trip to protect the cargo. Highly recommend 2 sided hinged boxes if you have a suv. Even with a 2 step ladder it is a bit of a reach bother for the cargo and the clamps. There is no way I would be able to reach across the box to tighten the clamps if single sided. Fotos are of the box on the Rav4 and stored in garage. Bit of a challenge storing a large box that can be safely raised and lowered by oneself. 286802

Thule Sonic XL Rooftop Cargo Box - 17 cu ft - Metallic Silver mounted securely to the roof rack on my Honda Accord and it travels very quietly on the road. It's been a good cargo carrier. It's pretty spacious. We use it for travel from Ohio to Fla so we can get in and out of the truck without everything in the way. We've also put cans for deposit up there and stinky stuff we didn't want to smell in our vehicle in there. We've threatened the kids that's where they'll ride, too. Haha! It's easy to open since you can open it from either side. It was easy to install. No complications!! 247074

We have used this for about a year. It served us well on a long drive to Disney World as well as several shorter trips to Michigan and allows our son to ride in the "trunk" (3rd row) of our vehicle. We like the convenience of being able to open the box from either side of the car. Only complaint is that if you put too much stuff in the front of the carrier, it can sometimes be difficult to close. 265489

2015 Chevrolet Impala

Review from a similar Thule Force in Roof Box

I just got the roof rack and the TH628 mounted on my car today. It arrived to my home without incident. With the Rhino roof rack and fit kit the installation went well. I mounted it on my 2015 Chevrolet Impala LZT2. 284915

This product fits the bill very well. Easy to install, plenty of space and appears to be water tight. I was very happy with etrailer service as well. They will be my "go to" for future needs. 250870
